going downhill. we have been regular patrons of hyde park bar and grill for over 15 years. it has always been a great place to eat, with good service and atmosphere. now that we have more meals at home with our young kids, we often order hyde park to pick up. the last two times we have gotten our order, thefoodis different. the ingredients don't seem as high quality, and they have changed things. i always get thousand island dressing, and it was great before. now it's inedible. it's really gross and tastes like liquid smoke. the grilled chicken is bland, tastes like it was also poached, and not the type offoodthey used to serve. i don't know what has happened. it's disappointing from a place that used to be so reliable.

i've been disappointed with hyde park the last two times i've been here, which have both been in the last month. the first time, a friend and i sat at the bar on a slow thursday night and had a couple glasses of wine. after our second round, our glasses stayed empty for almost 20 minutes before one of the bartenders (and there were 2, sometimes 3, bartenders/managers behind the bar) asked us if we wanted another or were ready to close out. this was annoying, but not worth writing a review about.

however, my experience at brunch today was. my boyfriend ordered an omlette with no onions or peppers, which our waiter didn't write down. when it came out, it had both onions and peppers. it took awhile for our server to come check on how ourfoodhad come out. meanwhile, my boyfriend ate the biscuit that came with his food. when the waiter had brought my boyfriend's corrected order, my boyfriend asked for another bisquit, and the waiter said he'd have to charge us for it. seriously? for a bisquit? after he had to wait to eat because the waiter made a mistake? my boyfriend said ok, but when we had finished eating and the waiter asked how everything was, we asked if we really had to be charged for an extra bisquit when one of our orders was wrong. (we could afford the bisquit, but it's the principle.) he said that yes, unfortunately he had to charge us because they keep count of the bisquits. we said, "really? even if you spoke to your manager?" he sent the manager over, who was super nice, and made it seem like no big deal to take off the bisquit, which means our waiter said "no" without even asking. since both my boyfriend and i work in the service industry, we know that you at least try to ask a manager to remedy the situation, especially if a table specifically asks about something that isn't out of the question. when the waiter brought our bill, he said, "sorry about that, but again, it wasn't my decision, to which i responded, "yeah, well we just wanted you to ask a manager before you said no."
