loved this place! the patio is really nice and the service was great. i got the mushroom/cauliflower veggieburgerand it was really good despite the fact that it was messy to eat. the fries were top notch and they had lots of local beers on draft. definitely recommend!

what i noticed first was the way they made the pretzel bun. everyone knows what that looks like right? a regular bun made with pretzel dough with some salt on top. regular. standard. but this pretzel bun came out as an actual pretzel, twisted and everything. thinking on it, this is the best way to receive a pretzel bun. it just makes sense. taking the first bite i noticed the great amount of pimento cheese that was on the perfectly cooked rare burger. a lot of places melt the pimento cheese on theburgeras it cooks, but i actually prefer it the way hops presented it, just as a cold dollop on top. there were two thick and floppy pieces of bacon that overflowed off the patty, but the lettuce was flat and not crisp and felt like an afterthought.

this is a spectacularburgerjoint. and it is a joint, more bar than restaurant. however, i saw plenty of kids at the outside tables, so it must be family friendly as well. if you reading this stop and go get one of the best burgers you'll ever have. 'nuff said...

hops has been on my list of restaurants to try for a long time.  in fact, i had tried to eat there unsuccessfully three times due to hour plus waits.  well, i finally got to go for lunch today.  for me, hops is somewhat a victim of its own publicity - i went expecting this to be the bestburgeri ever had (it was recently voted bestburgerin the country by one source), or at least the bestburgerin greensboro.  in reality, myburgerwas fine, good even - just not exceptional.  i had the french onion burger, and all of the toppings were fresh.  the gravy was a bit much, but thankfully it came on the side so i was able to just put a little on my burger.  the 6ozburgerwas plenty filling, and the side salad was also fresh and well sized for the price.  theburgerwas a little greasier than it should have been, though.  for my money, emma key's is still theburgerspot to beat in greensboro.  i think i also prefer bigburgerspot to hops, and they certainly have a greater variety of specialty burgers.  all in all a good experience - just not exceptional.

by greg & jenn • march 22, 2015 it was a saturday night and jenn and i decided to take kaci, our oldest daughter, to get aburgerfrom a place we had been wanting to try “hopsburgerbar”. we have attempted to eat at hops before, but we had our youngest with us at the time and this isn’t really the kind of place that you want to wait an hour with a two year old (in fact i don’t want to wait an hour with a two year old anywhere). with the crowd in mind we left high point around 5pm in order to try and beat some of the crowd that seems to be standard here. unlike our previous attempt, the host recognized our attempt at patronizing the place and put our name on a waiting list and we were told it would be about 30 minutes, which is not too bad for a saturday night. the restaurant is small with a couple of tables, booth’s and a bar that lines the back of the restaurant. the bar is first come first serve. there is a patio with tables on the right side of the building, but this was about two weekends ago and it was still a little chilly this particular evening. within about 45 minutes we were sat at a booth and were pretty hungry by this point. our server greeted us after a couple of minutes and took our orders. we started out with an order of the “carolina red onion rings”. these onion rings had just the right amount of batter to compliment the fresh and crisp onions that it encapsulated. they were tasty, not too greasy and cooked just right. the sauce served with them seemed to be a remoulade, but we opted for ketchup instead. onto the reason we came, the burgers. kaci decided on a “create your own burger” and went with the beefburgerwith bacon, lettuce, onion, pickles and ketchup. she seemed to enjoy it but was only able to finish about half of it. the burgers are not huge but they are plenty big for one person, especially a 10 year old. hops also boasts a “wall of fries” in which you can choose from a variety of different styled flavors. kaci chose her favorite “chil

best vegetarian burger, period.. i have never had such a delicious vegetarianburgeras the 'nutty patty' this place makes. it doesn't try to be meat, and it's not overtly black bean, either. it's crunchy and savory and has fun things like sunflower seeds throughout. my carnivore fiance even steals bites because he thinks it is so good! if you're a vegetarian looking for something different and delicious, definitely try the carolina goat with no bacon, on a nutty patty. i'm salivating just thinking about it :p

youthful vibe, good waitstaff, huge burgers, priced right. hopsburgerbar technically may not be a college hangout, but it has that vibe.

on a friday night, there was a 45-minute wait, but we found seats at the bar (thanks to a nice guy who gave up one of his party's seats) and ate there.

the burgers are huge, and they come with very good regular fries or sweet potato fries. i had the classic with regular fries (about $8), and my wife had the cuban cow with sweet potato fries.

with two burgers and fries, an appetizer of red onion rings (just so-so, a bit greasy) and a total of three craft beer drafts, our meal came to just $39 (plus my usual generous tip) -- a real bargain.

the waitstaff was really on top of things, and the crowd seemed happy to be there.

i'd definitely go back.

fish sandwich is awesome, too. wow, tried their beer battered haddock sandwich (can't always choose the burger, right?), and it was outstanding - nice batter, not at all greasy, and the fish was tender and flakey with great fish flavor. and it was huge, it was hanging out both sides of the bun.

a better burger. our first visit here for lunch today was a nice experience. the place is small, well decorated in the style of a bar with good pub food and big screen tvs - there is also some patio seating.

they offer 8 "named" house burgers (6 or 8 oz for $8/$9 with a side), or you can build your own - this can get a little pricey depending on your toppings. a 6 ozburgerwith jalapenos, pepperjack cheese, and grilled onions billed out at $8.50, but you get a side - one of bigburgerspots large burgers run $7 without a side.

theburgeritself here is simply excellent - very flavorful with a slight touch of greasiness that makes a goodburger- only angus meat is used. i would go with the brioche, and would definitely skip the potato roll, both flavor and texture are off, imho. only mis-step was theburgerwas somewhat rarer than medium.

the ff are awesome, well cut and fried to the perfect crispness, even fairly well salted. the side slad with blue cheese dressing was also nice - lots of cheese crumbles in the dressing. they offer home made chips but they are of the sweet potato variety and i only eat sweet potatoes in casseroles, and then only on selected holidays when turkey is served.

this large styleburger(as opposed to the smaller diner/cafe burgers served at danny's or oakcrest) is right up there with bigburgerspot and emma kay's as the best of its style in the triad.

they have a small lot, and parking can be a problem, especially when josephine's next door is busy.
