hops has been on my list of restaurants to try for a long time. in fact, i had tried to eat there unsuccessfully three times due to hour plus waits. well, i finally got to go for lunch today. for me, hops is somewhat a victim of its own publicity - i went expecting this to be the best burger i ever had (it was recently voted best burger in the country by one source), or at least the best burger in greensboro. in reality, my burger was fine, good even - just not exceptional. i had the french onion burger, and all of the toppings were fresh. the gravy was a bit much, but thankfully it came on the side so i was able to just put a little on my burger. the 6oz burger was plenty filling, and the side salad was also fresh and well sized for the price. the burger was a little greasier than it should have been, though. for my money, emma key's is still the burger spot to beat in greensboro. i think i also prefer big burger spot to hops, and they certainly have a greater variety of specialty burgers. all in all a good experience - just not exceptional.
