w and i enjoyedlunchhere today. they couldn't seat us as soon as we got there, but texted within 10 minutes with a table ready. we shared the rich and grainy bread and butter, and the togarashi squid to start. both were very nice. for mains, w had the pulled pork sliders with homestyle chips, which he enjoyed. i had the black bean burger with paprika chips and chipotle aioli. the bun was soft and sweet, the beany patty was well-textured and flavoured. the chips were good too. we finished with the praline, passionfruit and chocolate dessert - tasted nice but seemed a bit too small to be charging $16. staff were very friendly and the place had a good atmosphere and was very busy.

alunchdate at 12pm on a wednesday. had a few customers already, by the time we left at 2pm the place was buzzing. gorgeous view across the vineyard. initially the customer service was great. but with the increase in customers, we got neglected a bit. ordered a few tapas, delicious! for desserts we had to go to the counter to order. but otherwise. i'd go back again, i can see it being very busy on a weekend!

my cousin decided to take us forlunchand chose a beautiful sunny but very cold day to do so ! we set off not quite sure where we would stop and happened across the mandoon winery and homestead brewery and so had lunch.. being chilly it was full inside so had to sit outside - no heaters brrrrr - but the sun was shining, the staff were friendly & although service was a bit slow it wasn't sooo bad as to be a problem !! and we had nowhere else to be !! i had the fish and chips - delicious, my cousin had the fish pie with seasonal veg - pie was rich & good but seasonal veg were very chat grilled brocolli stems which weren't good and my hubby had the pizza which he finished without sharing !! we had coffee and sat catching up and really enjoyed it .. the only downside was buses waiting for their charges of hen parties and 21sts (there were at least 4) to stagger back and they idled in front of the restaurant dousing us in their exhaust fumes .. they should wait somewhere else perhaps ?!?

enjoyed a nice long lazylunchhere with fast, friendly service ensuring our drinks were always topped up. i tried their cider and i loved it! everyone enjoyed their food, the burger looked amazing.

i had the beer battered fish and chips which came up piping hot and crisp. the beer battered chips are amazing!

tried the white chocolate mousse with blueberry and shortbread and lemon which was decent.

off to the valley forlunchlast week we dropped in to one of our favourite casual eating houses – homestead brewery at mandoon estate. it was a pleasant sunny day and the place was crowded inside and out on the decking looking over the vines. we managed a table by the open doors so got the best of both worlds.

i had a greatlunchat homestead brewery with friends. this place was packed out on a sunday but the atmosphere was lovely and welcoming.

food was great- ordered the fish and chips which was flavourful but slightly oily. others on my table enjoyed their meals. i had a taste of the sirloin steak and onion rings, delicious but slightly undercooked for medium rare.

i appreciated the wonderful and attentive staff who made an effort to check on us regularly.

lady fwo, after swanning around melbourne in the past week was looking for a relaxed change of pace, so on monday we went out to mandoon’s homestead brewery for a lightlunchand drink to take in the sunny, warm weather. as i have probably said before, the brewery is in a great location, part of mandoon estate with its excellent restaurant and wine tasting facilities, looking out across the vines, and with the added benefit of the amazing grounds – rolling lawns, playgrounds, beer garden, outdoor settings, deli and outside bar, it has everything you could wish for on a trip to the valley. the brewery area itself scrubs up well – polished concrete floors, comfortable chairs, lounge area, a long easily accessible bar, and a fine veranda to sit out and catch the breeze.

i sincerely wish homestead brewery was better, particularly given that the other swan valley breweries are also pretty poor, but unfortunately it has fallen completely flat.

we visited homestead brewery about a month ago with our young daughter, my sister, brother in-law and their two adult children. mr doe called prior to see if we could book for sundaylunchand was told bookings were for groups of 10+ only and they recommend arriving between 11am and midday to secure a table. following their recommendation we arrived at 11am and asked a male staff member for a table, he disappeared for a couple minutes before taking us to a table and seating our group.

we proceeded to order a variety of dishes and i'll keep my critiques to our food only and say it was very average; pizza was soggy with the base undercooked in the centre and the octopus in the octopus and chorizo dish overcooked and chewy although the flavours in the dish overall were good. they did serve some excellent olives though i'm not sure that's enough of a saving grace. mr doe and i also shared a chai creme brûlée which was terrible, curdled custard is not nice at all and inexcusable in a professional kitchen.

around three quarters of the way through our meal a female waitress approached us and told us we needed to move half of our party from the table they were seated on (as we were seated across two adjoined tables) claiming that we had removed the reserved sign for the table. we explained that we'd not removed anything and had been seated at this table by another staff member. without a word the waitress turns around, walks off and returns with the male manager in tow. let me make it apparent when i say as a diner i have never been treated so poorly as by the ill-mannered staff at homestead brewery, the manager was incredibly rude and proceeded to accuse us of removing the reserved sign from the table and tell us that we needed to hurry up and leave. he was again told that we had removed nothing and were seated at the table by his staff member. only after demanding a detailed description of the offending staff member which was provided did he huff off to verify that this was correct. we were not rude or confrontational with the staff over the situation just slightly incredulous at the rudeness and that they expected us to up and leave over their mistake when we were not finished eating. we received no apology from the manager for his appalling behaviour.

what really made me cranky though is that after watching the waitress move tables around for the reservation in question that a party of four sat down on the reserved table when they'd refused to take a booking for a party of eight. unsure why the double standards exist at this establishment? either take bookings or don't but whichever way homestead need to manage their processes better.

based on the abysmal service and below par food i wouldn't personally return to homestead brewery.

i love that all the new perth bars and breweries have gone out of their way to be different. over the last 6 months this is where we’ve checked out… lot twenty  in the perth cultural centre. my two burgers had lunch here one sunday, we loved the cool decor and vibe of the outdoor space. i’d go here more for the drinks and ambience rather tha nthe food as the sandwiches we ordered were a bit on the small side for the price. i perhaps also had higher expectations as i love the food from five bar who are partly owned by these guys. featured in the middle is burger boy’s twenty with the lot burger which had a wagyu beef patty, farm house gold cheese, pickles, fried egg and house made ketchup in a glazed bun $18. it usually comes with onion rings inside the burger but burger boy went without.

country diner in town. we dropped in forlunchat homestead brewery in the mandoon estate. what a great location and magnificent venue. the staff were friendly and helpful, the meals were superb. the warm beetroot, quinoa roasted sandalwood nuts, goats curd and lemon was divine and our other meal was a tasty wagyu burger with triple cooked chips as a side. it is great to see local and even some native produce being used, well done.
the pale ales were cold and very welcome on the hot day we visited.
great atmosphere, well priced, awesome meals so we will be back.

we went to the beer garden forlunchtoday and really enjoyed the atmosphere. it was family friendly and there was plenty of space. the pizzas were yummy although $24 was a bit pricey. the roast rolls were not bad but more gravy sauce was needed as it was a bit dry. it comes with a salad which was basically a few miserable leaves. i thought the grounds were beautiful but the experience would've been even better if the rolls were tastier and not so stingey on salad. beers were good.
