best chinese in glasgow, possibly scotland and even uk! we don't eat a lot of chinese - mainly due to the face that most places make the 'greasy takeaway' style food, but place is fantastic, however you will have to stump up the cash for it, but well worth it. staff are very attentive, continutally topping up your glasses with your wine / water and the food is tremendous, so don't miss it.
if you want a special meal, this is the place to go.
definately recomended!!

we joined friends for a meal at the ho wong last week. this was our first visit for many years to a restaurant which was always a favourite of ours when we lived in glasgow. we enjoyed excellent cuisine and swift, professional service. one of the very best cantonese restaurants in scotland

had lunch with several friends who enjoyed their first visit to the ho wong but it was tempered by the outrageous price of £9 for a single glass of red wine ..

my family and i were out celebrating lots of things. we had a wonderful time because the staff made us very welcome, explained what we were eating and were very attentive. one waitress in particular had a great sense of humour and kept making us laugh out loud. she was so lovely that she came outside to see us off. she was wonderful and made a lovely night very special. thank you all for a marvellous night with fantastic food and fun!! much appreciated.

went for dinner couple weeks ago ,superb!went couple days ago for lunch.had booked after constantly phoning, unfortunately my friend did too!phoned over 20 times day before booking to cancel one, felt bad had too.tried over 20 times, engaged, engaged.when we arrived at restaurant ,tried to explain to lady who “greeted “us at door.rude and dismissive,v bluntly kept saying, name!tried to explain, said too busy to answer phone.if amber regent had been open we’d have left.basically they don’t want bookings…in out as fast as,as soon as fork down plate gone.the food was as ever fantastic, and our waitress apple was delightful, but a sour rude woman as you come in should learn some manners

an okay place to dine. last year i had their hot n sour soup it was very good. this time they added prawns into it as well and it was very thick and not tasty. most of the dishes need an improvement with taste and presentation. the only thing i liked was the sweet chilli chicken. it had flavour and was comparitvely better than the rest of the dishes.

ambiance 3/5
service 3/5
food 2/5
presentation 2/5

sea bass. chinese food in scotland is generally rubbish and full of msg but this is the exception to the rule.

very good seafood that is fresh and very good quality.

it is quite pricey but it is nice to go once in a while, when you save up.

average at best. food excellent quality, but if you like disinterested, harassed, stroppy staff who leave their manners at the door, be my guest and pay through the nose for a disappointing service.

how long this place's reputation will see it through, i don't know. i was sorely, sorely disappointed.

terrible, pretentious and grossly overpriced. one of the worst dining experiences you will have the misfortune to experience. the food is very average and grossly overpriced. there are many carry outs that serve food far far better than this restaurant. the staff were pushy and uninterested, do not order any wine as they will pour it like water so you"ll finish it and then they'll push you to order another bottle. there is a minimum £20 per head spend too which is ridiculous, i have never heard of such a thing in a restaurant! it seems to be the kind of place that people want to be seen in (most likely because it is expensive) and not actually just a good restaurant. overall i would say it is at best terrible. my advice, find somewhere else! no idea why these guys are still in business!

we have been using the ho wong almost since it opened in the 1980's, and have never had a bad meal. the food is easily the best in the city, and is always well served, fresh and tasty. i've been taken through to see the kitchens and they were immaculate. tony is now one of my best friends but i'm sure he and his staff offer everyone the same level of service. tony - well done and keep up the good work. see you soon, david clunie 10/10
