what's not to love about this place? amazing southern kitchen, with reasonably priced, tasty grub. i immensely enjoyed a cajun omlette, but had diners remorse when i saw the chicken and waffles that the guy at the table next to us ordered. it looked and smelled amazing. guess i'm going to have to gobackwhen i'm in town again.

hattie’s restaurant review. who knew that you could find a delicious southern restaurant on thebackstreets of saratoga springs, ny? complete with a casual, laid back, and friendly atmosphere that is hattie’s restaurantsynonymous with the south, is just that. originally opened as hattie’s chicken shack in 1938, it has been known as the place to go for amazing food, great drinks, and spectacular service. after hearing plenty of people talking about this restaurant, my family and i decided to try it out one weekend.

the menu is full of some of the most delectable southern meals you can find in one place. in fact, it was almost impossible to choose what to try. after starting with the mouth watering hush puppies and the delicious good ‘n evil chicken wings that had the perfect amount of crispness, i was almost too full for my main entrée.

i had opted for the fried chicken after learning that it had beat out bobby flay’s several years ago and i was not disappointed. having grown up in the south, i thought i knew good fried chicken. however, i was not prepared for how delicious it would be. crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside and not greasy at all, it was definitely the best i have ever tasted. i paired it with creamy mashed potatoes and perfectly seasoned collard greens. as a result of the huge portions, i took more than half of it home and was surprised to find out that it is just as good the next day.

my girlfriend opted for the spicy jambalaya, a dish that she always enjoys when we visit louisiana. she found the mix of sausage, shrimp, and chicken to be “out of this world.” my nephew chose the slow cooked bbq spare ribs, which i happened to steal a bite of. tender, moist, and covered in a barbeque sauce that was the perfect mix of salty and sweet, they peeled right off the bone and could be cut with a fork. accompanied by outstanding, light as a feather biscuits, buttery and sweet corn on the cob, and delicious cranberry coleslaw, it was a meal he swears he will never forget.

while hattie’s has an impressive selection of premium and domestic beers, as well as

i just ordered a whole bunch of sides: two eggs over easy, grits, home fries, and sausage gravy. the egg yolks were cooked through, which was disappointing, but everything else was so delicious, i was still really happy with my meal. i would definitely gobackfor another hattie’s brunch!

too hyped up but still nice. okay, ever go to a movie that everyone loves so your expectations are way too high? that was how we felt after eating herebackin july. nice atmosphere, food was good but not over the top. the bartender was very good - mojo or something like that can't remember the name. the chicken is as good as if made at home by a relative that thinks fried is a category on the food pyramid. so, i guess people rave about the chicken because it taste's like grandma's chicken.

hattie’s restaurant is a saratoga institution, and has not only the best fried chicken in the northeast, but a kickin’backpatio bar. do not miss this place when you visit saratoga! the chef at hattie’s, jasper alexander, has done his time at culinary school and chi-chi nyc eateries like gramercy tavern and aureole, and is now living the good life upstate, churning out not only award-winning fried chicken, but old fashioned hush puppies, mac and cheese, chicken and dumplings, gumbo and ribs, all with a gourmet twist.

best southern fried chicken ever. go to hatties. you will not regret it. never mind the cramped space and run down house. best southern food ever. thebackpatio bar is a great place on a hot muggy toga night down in the "gut"!!! fried chicken is old lady hattie's handed down ancient recipe. truly the best you will ever taste.
