decent enough for what it is. grade: b-

harold & cathy's is a small, unassuming spot that caters to what appears to be a loyal clientele ranging from young parents to retirees and even, on the sunday morning we went, a brigadier general and his wife. small and a bit tight, its walls are lined with tributes to the military and remembrances of 9/11.

a couple of quirks include placing your order at the counter and then having it brought to your table by a waitress and having to go to said counter to get your own coffee refills.

the food is decent but not with too much that is made on-site. many things are prepackaged sysco-type restaurant fare. the orange juice was a watered-down reconstitution. the pancakes were served with packets of "table syrup", which was corn syrup bearing a misleading label showing maple leaves. the scrapple was a commercial brand.

the bread used for the toast was a notch better than a standard loaf, showing a dusting of flour on its edge. a dense biscuit could have been homemade. it was topped with a very tasty sausage gravy that was a highlight of the meal.

nothing here was out of the park, but nothing here was the least bit expensive either. for what it was, a little mom & pop joint, it provided a nice, inexpensive option forbreakfastthat seems to have won over its customers.
