harbor view is one of those places you go on a special occasion. or sometimes if you're just feeling happy. it offers you some amazing seafood dishes that are both fresh and tasty. we visited harbor view on our last night in the philippines. we started off with some drinks - long islands and beers. the long islands were unusual - just as the name. they weren't long island iced teas, just long islands with coke. the view of manila bay from the restaurant, especially at night, is spectacular and can render you speechless. the decor in the restaurant isn't over the top, and justifies itself as a proper fine dining restaurant.
the first of our starters comprised of prawns stuffed with crabs and covered with cheese and baked. it was divine. the minimal use of cheese on this dish made the flavours of the crab and the prawns stand out. unfortunately, the second plate we ordered had an overdose of cheese. a tip here: while ordering this dish, tell the waiter you want it with less cheese, or no cheese at all. sprinkle some lime or lemon juice over it when it comes with a dash of pepper and you'll be good to go. the other dish we ordered was a squid fry that was spicy and just awesome - perhaps a perfect accompaniment for a san mig lite :) we also ordered some spicy tuna sushi, and these were really good too. the sushi rolls were prepared properly, and the spicy tune lived up to its name, and the taste great. theservicewas prompt and we didn't have anything to complain about.
for the mains, we stuck to seafood - well, at least we tried, but eventually there was one non-seafood dish that was ordered. we ordered a fish called the lupa lupa, and asked for it to be fried and served extra spicy. along with that, we also ordered a steamed crab in chili sauce, and a rabo de toro (oxtail). everything was top notch. the fish could've been spicier, since we asked them to make it extra spicy, but tasted good nonetheless. the crab, always messy to eat, was a delight all the same. the oxtail was quite ok, but didn't measure up to the seafood. we were too stuffed to order desserts, in spite of the fact that they seemed to have some divine looking cheesecakes. overall, an excellent experience, one that will take a while to forget :)
