gusto da gianni

took my wife here for our 5 year anniversary tonight and it was possibly the worst choice i could've made in brisbane. after a long wait to order (with tables arriving after us being tended to first) we proceeded to wait 30 minutes for the worst calamari i have ever had. i'm sure it was frozen as it was extremely dry, definitely not worth $20. we then waited 45 minutes for our main which never came (watching the same tables that arrived after us finish their meals and leave). we even had a staff member offer us the desert menu?! we chose to leave at this point. when we went to leave the owner/manager asked us if we actually ordered main meals. he proceeded to charge us for our terrible entree and wine (wine was the only good part), nothing comped and an insincere apology. do not go here.

we love this place. fantastic service and brilliant location. we find this restaurant ideal before we see a movie or on special occasions. the pizza is so authentic and there are so many options! i have never been disappointed with the pasta and recently i have started venturing into their meat dishes and have loved the pork with roast veggies as well as the chicken with a mustard sauce on a bed of mash. staff have always been so friendly and we love the style of this place. we recommend and will continue to come

last week, we planned a birthday party for a close friend of ours, for dinner, we were keen to try something italian but also something new. having been through portside for both eat street markets and sono we had passed through gusto da gianni and had wanted to try it out for some time now. without much debate, we reached a unianimous decision to have our meal there.

as a fan of big eats and large portions, as well as high quality foods i'd recommend gianni's 9 times out of 10. very high quality and great menu items, not overly complicated. the only issue i had was i couldn't make my mind up. staff are fantastic, food is fantastic. definite top 5 best italian meals i've had. 100% recommend.

quite possibly the worst italian i've ever eaten. went with two other people and none of us were happy. the only saving grace was the wine.
i couldn't even eat my main. and tried both other mains and was definitely not impressed. on top of this, the presentation was also horrendous. i would recommend the japanese above this restaurant or any other food place in the area over this place.

my wife and i enjoyed a lovely dinner at gusto da gianni. they offer a nice selection of wines and birra moretti on tap.

we ordered bruschetta caprese and arancini as starters, both of which were underwhelming. the bruschetta was wet and the napoli sauce accompanying the arancini lacked flavor.

fortunately, the mains were wonderful! the tagliolini alla boscaiola (fresh egg pasta with mushrooms and sausage in cream) was lovely and the risotto milanese (risotto with osso buco) was amazing.

double espresso with biscotti to top things off was the perfect touch.

i love everything italian. i've been here twice and both times the food, wine and customer service have been excellent. compared to the real thing, i'd say this place is close but not quite there. definitely with trying this place.

it was an ok experience. my meal was quite nice which was a seafood garlic and basil broth. the other people i was with were quite disappointed with their meals. the prawn salad had frozen prawns which was very disappointing. the pizza was ok and so was steak pasta. the cous cous seafood however was nice. food overall was ok not the best. staff were a bit rude to.

the antipasto was great but myself and a friend both ordered the seafood linguini and the clam shells were cracked leaving shards of shell in our food. not pleasant when you crunch down on it. just wasn't up to the standard i expect of one of my favourite italian restaurants. the staff are great

ordered the risotto milanese.  the menu claims that it comes with slow-cooked osso buco, parmesan and saffron.

ended up getting an over-salted risotto with little beef shavings.

visited gusto da gianni for a first date this week, and it was lovely! the attentive, friendly, cheerful staff really made a great impression. my date had one of the pizzas, which i tried and it was great - a crisp crust and really fresh toppings. i had massive plate-envy, because i had one of the pastas, and didn't love it. not the restaurant's fault though, there was nothing wrong with the pasta and i'm sure plenty would rave about it - but it was a poor choice on my part (much heavier and less flavoured than i was feeling like on the night). i would go again, if only to have a pizza all to myself!

very nice food - had the pork belly which was very nice, but someone else on my table had the meatloaf special and that was amazing! the entree was nice too - arancini and zuchini flowers and the desserts were also nice - but nothing special. would come back to try some other dishes and would prey the meatloaf is back on the menu!

this restaurant consistently delivers excellent service and delicious, authentic italian food, making it one of our favourite restaurants in brisbane. we have yet to find a better pizza in brisbane, and our favourites include the diavola and gianni's favourite. the selection of wines and desserts is also consistently delicious. it gets busy on weekends but we are always accommodated, and not once have we had to wait longer than 5 minutes for a table.
it never takes any persuasion to "head over to gianni's" for dinner, as it has been a part of so many birthdays, anniversaries and family visits for us. we love this place!

nice restaurant with plenty of love and attention to detail placed into the decor and dishes. my 4 cheese risotto was cook perfectly and packed full of flavours, only a bit oily but expected due to all the cheese. the mussels were perfect, absolutely flawless especially the broth which was excellent. only down side was the aircon being on & off and we were sweating in the corner as it became really humid. all food came very quick and tasted great. the service was awesome, prices were decent vs quality despite the 15% surcharge on the public holiday (australia day). overall experience was very pleasant, will return again to try more dishes!
