update march 2017:
ok let's start over again, a fresh relationship with grub...
my first impressions were not great, just a ton of little things that i didn't particularly like, the most egregious being a less than stellar burger. over time however, i am thrilled to say that the management / ownership has listened, unlike most restaurateurs, to criticisms, suggestions and ideas from their customers. now you are greeted at the door and handed a menu, questions answered and suggestions made for a great visit, perfect! the menu has evolved and great monthly specials have been added as well as a cool app and rewards program; a+.
the burgers remain in the fair to good category considering this, in name anyway, is a burger joint. i would argue that grub's stronghold is not the burgers but the sides, shakes and non-beef sandwiches. once i ventured out and kind of gave up on the burgers i found amazing sweet potato fries, the best brussels sprouts i've ever had, fabulous shakes and a great queso that beats most mexican restaurants, especially around here. the burgers have seen some improvement too. the voo doo mushroom burger has a unique taste from mushrooms sautéed in absinthe, there's something you don't see every day. the burger specials have been better than the menu burgers in my experience. those offered on flatbread fare better since i'm not a fan of the buns. yes i know they bake their own, subway bakes their own bread, neither is any good. the meat quality is there, they need to work on seasoning and preparation as well as not overcooking that meat. in contrast the salmon burger is spot on with perfectly chosen toppings.
i now look forward to visiting grub. there are a few things still to be addressed like that walk up counter, maybe a better beverage selection, but the staff has been much better on recent visits and the changes have been very noticeable; keep up the good work grub!
