it all started on 5/18 at 5:31pm when i asked the girl for some queso. she filled up 3/4 of the way and got a serious attitude when i asked her to fill it up.

to make a long story short it ended with the tall, caucasian, cashier giving away my queso & guacamole, grabbing the wrong order then getting upset when i refused to pay him until they got my order prepared correctly...

he took my payment, left all my items on the counter unbagged and proceeded to take the next persons order at the adjacent cash register. completely ignoring me when i asked if he can bag my items.

after i got home i realized they purposely gave me extra greasy and saturatedtacosthat they probably wouldn’t have served otherwise. this place is disgusting.

gringos locos: a downtown drunk's best friend. true, i visited gringos during daylight hours but the feel of the place immediately alerted me that it's really hoppin' after the bars start shutting down. open until 3am, it's actually a quiet spot to grab a bite for lunch.

gringos has a beautiful, straightforward menu which is efficiently broken down into 4 main categories- lite affair, tacos, burritos, and full affair (it probably keeps things simple when you're not working at full capacity after a few shots). this afternoon, i opted for the double d's from thetacossection- a hard-n-soft shell taco with cheese, your choice of meat, lettuce, pico de gallo, and sour cream (2 for $5.95) and og nachos ($5.75) from the full affair section- cheese, lettuce, pico de gallo, sour cream and ground beef ($1.75 extra).

first off, the service here is really helpful and very friendly. since yours truly is trying to be more healthful (especially when sober), the guy at the back of the counter piled on veggies in my taco- olives, diced tomatoes, jalapenos, and (delightfully) cilantro. it was a great revelation to find out that a taco, especially here, can give you an ample serving of nutritious vegetables... minus the innocuous 'daily salad' concept that i've being accustomed to lately. and to match that health-consciousness, he even suggested that i skip the sour cream to savor those fresh, herbaceous flavors. who am i to counter such brilliance?

salty, succulent pieces of dark chicken meat greeted my mouth like a long-lost lover. she enshrouded her allure with crisp lettuce and sultry kisses of freshly sliced jalapenos. the ultra-fine shredded white and yellow cheeses only cemented my appetite for her. the cilantro was particularly instrumental in giving the taco a beautiful, ethnic mouth-feel. and parlaying into that experience, the textural combination of soft and hard shelltacosin one bite made this dish an instant addiction.

the og nachos, in my opinion, are best eaten when you have the drunk munchies. to me, it didn't really make a lot of sense eating weirdly sweet ground beef (a mixture of chipotle, spice, and brown sugar) heaped with a curious cheese sauce mixture only to be wetted down with tomatoes and sour cream. this lead to a very soggy nacho combination that sticks to the roof of the mouth. freshly made right behind the counter, the dish became a sloppy mess within minutes. delicious when drunk, not so much when sober.

in a nutshell: gringos locos is your stop after the bars (it's catty-corner from i-bar). it remains one of the few cool places that still give you great deals if you buy more of the same item (mytacoswere 2 for $5.95, 3 for $8.00, or 4 for $9.75). they at least have 3 different types of hot sauces. try to sit outside- a mere hour inside the joint and my shirt smelled strongly like deep fried salsa (not really a good thing when you still have the errands to run). and if you want to impress your friends by getting your picture on their counter, you can try the drunk gringo challenger showdown where you try to inhale a burrito as fast as you can (the current time to beat is 1min 21secs). but please, have some dignity and barf outside the restaurant if the alcohol revolts inside you. that's probably the reason why gringos has 100% recycled paper napkins but no recycling trashcans for their canned and bottled beverages.

stumbled upon this spot and it was packed with people so we decided to pop in.
mexican food with all options on the board.
we weren't really hungry but had to try, so opted for the beef empanadas. freshly made and piping hot. delicious. generous portion. theirtacosseemed to be the most popular option amongst guests and looked really good with no holding back on toppings. burritos looked just as good. we just missed their 4-8 pm happy hour which offered $2tacosand $5 burritos. excellent value for money and a great, laod-back, casual spot

open late till 3am and later, gringos locos is perfect for grabbing some tex-mex grub after hitting up the bars downtown. the place is a bit of a dive, dark and with relative few seats. no matter, as most hungry patrons probably are going in just for a quick bite to satisfy their late night munchies. they serve up some creative if inappropriately named dishes, mostly burritos, tacos, chips and queso and salsa, enchiladas. i went for the double d’s, a “double decker” taco made with a queso spread on a soft tortilla wrapped around a crunchy hard shell and then filled with cheese, lettuce, tomato, sour cream, and some pork meat, a flavorful choice. the fishtacosi tried were a bit bland and a bit too wet for my liking, maybe would have helped with some spicier salsa. the fish tacos…could be better. but he pork double d’s were a hit!

order the double d's!. gringos locos is an inexpensive restaurant in downtown orlando that specializes in “quickly prepared” mexican favorites! i have been there several times for either a fast lunch or a late night “sober up before driving” experience!
they are open late and when the surrounding bars close there can be a long wait! i recently went there for lunch and the food was just as tasty.
the atmosphere... hole in the wall, has a dirty feel to it but is actually very sanitary
the service... counter service similar to chipotle or moe’s, for the most part i have had friendly, helpful service
the food... mostlytacosand burritos, but with a touch of empanadas, nachos, quesadillas, etc...
i usually get the same thing here... two pork double d’s (hard and soft shell with queso, protein, lettuce, pico, cheese and sour cream 2/$5.99) these are gringos’ version of taco bell’s double deckertacosexcept the hard and soft shells are stuck together with queso instead of beans. they are also stuffed with ingredients that are far superior. i love the roasted pork from gringos locos, it is always crispy, yet tender and full of flavor.
i also tried the homemade guacamole with chips for $2.99, it was not bad, but it was also nothing special so i would probably pass on that the next time!
on this visit i knew what i was getting in to, but i had a guest with me who i consider to be the “burrito queen”. she love, love, loves burritos! every time i see her she usually has a burrito in her hand, and i was curious to see what she thought of this place. she ordered the drunk gringo for $8.99, which has everything in it! beef, pork, and chicken, with all possible ingredients! i am pleased to report that she ate every bite, and although it was not the best burrito that she has ever eaten, she still gave it her “burrito queen seal of approval”. i don’t think you could ask for too much more then that.

mytacosare good tacos. the beeftacoswere amazing. normally i don't like beef tacos, i prefer steak. but if there was a place back home that severed beef the way these guys do i'd be in heaven. it had a sweet under taste to it and they weren't too drippy. the place was quick too! and they stuff your tacos. and reasonably priced. love it!

gringos is my 3 times a week spot. im not really one to write reviews but i thought this was well deserved as i also become friends with the employees due to the over abundance of times ive eaten at gringos. i found gringos about three months ago accidently while walking to another restaurant. boy, am i glad that we stumbled upon this downtown gem!! we tried a few different things on the menu but the fishtacoswere superior!! and they are actually very healthy for you. i have also tried the chicken enchiladas during one of my return visits and they were delicious. so for the sad part :( they are closed on sundays when i crave their food. cant someone please work on sunday? i promise i will come in and eat many things:) they said something about starting to sell beer, margaritas and sangria next month. good call!!

gringos, you're delicious!!. our office downtown decided to use our new mexican neighbor gringos locos across the street for a special catered event last week. it was on my shoulders and was a bit nervous about taking all the heat if it didnt turn out right. let me tell you, it was everything i could have asked for and way more. the taco bar was devine and it was an absolute hit, even with the vegetarians in which they made tofutacosfor!! they showed up early with some of the most incredibletacosive ever encountered. the price was very reasonable and the staff were steller, thank you guys so much for a wonderful new addition in downtown orlando. you'll be hearing from us again and again

hey kudrew, i don't think they claim authentic mexican food. you'd notice that if you had a clue. for you to say the guys that work there are bratty is completely false. those guys work really hard to create awesome food and have never seen them without a smile on their face!! we need less people like you downtown, don't worry, you won't be missed!! awesome food and great people make this place a great find in my book!!
