located at 622 green valley road next to the o’henry hotel, the green valley grill offers fine dining, guilt free (reduced fat and sodium) selections and an extensive wine list. in addition to lunch and dinner, therestaurantserves brunch from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on sundays and a daily afternoon tea in the o’henry lobby from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. private rooms and catering are available. fine dining is as much about the eating experience as it is about the food, and in that regard, the green valley grill comes through. high ceilings and spacious booths ensure that therestaurantnever feels crowded, even when it is full. the wait staff is prompt, professional and polite. of course, this would mean little if the food was not up to par with the presentation. fortunately gvg acquits itself nicely. an eclectic assortment of small plates includes everything from high-end burgers (the short rib sliders come recommended) to seafood to flatbreads.

very good food, nice large bar area. sisterrestaurantof print works bistro, of the two green valley serves a slightly more traditional american menu. the service is particularly efficient and knowledgeable. the bar is large, well laid out and spacious, rarely noisy, and we often eat there, especially at lunch. as with print works, the drinks tend toward the small, wine pours included - often a bottle of wine is the best buy.

among the small plates, the paella, savory pies, calamari, and the moroccan beef meatballs(sandwich or plate) are excellent choices. they offer a darn good burger - and it is. and the potato leek soup is special.

among the bigger plate items, the three way duck, veal scaloppini, short ribs, and the whole fish of the day are all nice items. most entrees run between $20 & $30, so this is not a source for cheap eats, but i find the excellent dishes worth the price.

the menu changes seasonally to some extent, and most items are good to excellent. last summer, they had a grilled cheese and tomato sandwich, on home made bread, that was a total killer. they actually bake the bread in large cans that originally contained vegetables and such - truth. hoping that bad boy will be returning once local tomatoes are available.

gvg is an experience that will keep you coming back. the prices make thisrestauranta “hidden gem” in a sense. there is not a dish that has come to my table that has not produced a “oh wow” reaction.

i have dined for brunch, lunch and dinner and i have never been disappointed. the ambience of the dining room is unique and the music sets a mood which is unique compared to any other establishment i have been to.

sunday brunch is probably the best time to go; the coffee is consistently some of the best i have had anywhere. the breads they provide for a starter have a crunchy crust and a moist inside. the truffle fries are “off the chain” amazing and the portion is enough for 4 people to share; i recommend them as an appetizer.

the menu is partly seasonal and always has an eclectic yet harmonious mix of dishes whose creation is clearly well thought out and include cheeses, herbs, sauces and extras that you do not find often. the consistent part of the menu has dishes that you can have over and over because the flavors are so good.

this is a place where you can have a gourmet burger for about $10 that will satisfy the biggest appetite or a fish or poultry entree that is both cutting edge and yet still feels like comfort food. thisrestaurantis solid in every way.

this is a review of arestaurantcalled green valley grill in greensboro, nc. last saturday hubby & i were in search of somewhere to eat near the whole foods. we decided to give thisrestauranta try since the reviews online were so good and hard to find items like lamb burgers and trout were on the menu for lunch. we arrived around 1 pm and were seated right away even though it looked like there would be a wait since therestaurantwas very full with customers. the staff dresses in black and white as you can see in one of the photos. read the rest of my review on my blog, link below.

(thisrestaurantscores a 5-star rating for ambience and decor). everything else gets a 4-star. the menu choices were excellent with a classic mix of southern and fine dining favorites. the wait staff was friendly, but a bit behind and not as attentive as they should have been. the food was very good, but extremely over priced for what you received. i had salmon, and it was an excellent cut atop a couscous blend... but not worth the $28.00 price tag. all in all a goodrestaurantwhen you want to impress or dress up for the night, but you can find the same dishes for much less and just as tasty elsewhere.

i'm very sad to say, that green valley after this evening will be dropping a few notches in our book. the sevice on a scale of 1-10 was about a 3 and believe me that's generous. the server frequently didn't know what was on the menu & referred back to her small scratch notepad several times which seemed very diner'ish. the bread never made it out & at one point we stared at our prime and filet entrees with no silverware... we were enjoying our own company despite the service short comings until we both realized the steaks were barely warm. after what took much longer than should the manager brought them out and did not apologize or make a any conversation regarding the food or the fact that we had over $80 of cold food with no silverware that waited 10-15 minutes to be brought back out. if the server was following the managers lead they're spot on. what was even more odd is when they brought the steaks back out, they were still not hot. at that point we just laughed it off and continued on with our dinner. when they brought us the bill we were quite surprised a gesture was not made to compensate a painfully obvious dropping of the ball on more than one accounts. it was almost uncomfortable to make mention to them because we can't figure out for the life of us why as a customer we had to mention them making an adjustment in a fine dining restaurant. we almost felt like they were trying to get away with one which to me was a bit embarrassing on their part. when the senior manager came out with the check and had removed an entree she was not very personable despite us making light of it on an effort to allow them to save face. we were pretty turned off as the young manager with short hair just dismissed the situation. we remained possitive and when leaving as the manager (or atleast attempting to be) was up front she did not acknowledge or thank us for dining with them or to have a food night. i found it another example of the level of maturity or lack there of to be running arestaurantof that status. we're not sure if this has just become the norm for them, and they frequently dismiss service/food issues? either way it's not very smart business, nor did it leave a good taste in our mouthes as regular customers. we won't be back and when in town will be going to the proximity, unless there is a management change.

after a couple of weeks of norestaurantreviews,  it felt good to get back in the saddle. jenn and i headed to a place in greensboro that we frequent often, “green valley grill”. therestaurantitself is located inside of the o’henry hotel near friendly shopping center. we have also stayed at the hotel on a couple of occasions. the o’henry is a very charming and accommodating hotel, making it’s chain counterparts pale in comparison (the breakfast the next morning is not to be missed either). therestaurantitself has an old world feel to it, with vaulted ceilings and an open view into the chef’s kitchen. a wood fired grill can be seen & smelled throughout the dining area and outside as well. the seating is comfortable with even numbers of tables and booths. the noise level is moderate for the size of this restaurant, alot of it being absorbed by the red brick walls and high ceilings. there is a seperate room for the bar, which is rather lengthy. there is also a very lovely patio, which is where we requested to dine this evening. this time of year is perfect for dining outside, with temperatures right around 70 degrees at 5pm. our server michael was quick to greet us before explaining tonight’s specials and taking our drink order. after debating whether or not to have an appetizer, we finally decided to share the “garlic crusted ahi tuna”. it was served over cauliflower purée with spicy chorizo vinaigrette, shaved parmesan and cilantro.  at first glance the color of the ahi was a little dark, and not the dark that accompanies fresh tuna. however the flavor of the fish was not off, it may however have not been the freshest dish on the menu this evening. the cauliflower puree was the winner of the dish, lending a sweet element to the savoriness of the parmesan and chorizo. at gvg all entree’s are served with a choice of salad or soup, i chose the “white bean and beef soup”, while jenn opted for the “house salad”. my soup was nothing short of wonderful, with a nice tom

love it!. the food here is excellent; the setting is charming. the service is delightful. therestaurantis located in the o'henry hotel, and you must also visit the afternoon high tea (might just be weekends), especially during christmastime. tea is served in the beautiful, sunny, high-ceilinged space off the lobby.

incredible.. my girlfriend and i attended green valley grill for lunch on a saturday afternoon. no problem getting a table. service was perfect from start to finish. very attentive server, though not to a fault. my girlfriend had the ahi tuna starter and we both ate the scallops for an entree. obviously, we enjoy our seafood. the tuna was cooked as requested. very delicious. the scallops were the best i have ever eaten. the sauce was incredible and the seafood tasted fresh. for dessert, we shared the sampler, which included small portions of 4 different desserts. 3 of the 4 were mind-blowing. the 4th was tasty, though not my cup of tea. overall, thisrestaurantwas as close to perfect as i can imagine for lunch. the price was expensive, but definitely worth the cost.

costly. i found the service to be outstanding at green valley grill. the food was also very good. that being said, i thought that the prices were unusually high. urban spoon, i believe, lists thisrestaurantin the $15-25 range. the only items costing less than $22 were appetizers.

overall, good restaurant. expect to spend quite a bit.

a "must go" restaurant!. we were visiting from wilmington-nc, and found this place on urban spoon as a top 3restaurantin greensboro. the place is big, very nice, great service, and the menu is amazing. i wanted one of everything. to start, we had the french fries, fried in white truffle oil with aoili (wow!), and then i had the seared scallops (excellent!). my business associate enjoyed her meal as well. they have a tremendous wine list and it was an over-all great experience. i'll be back there, the next time i am in town.

incredible dinner!. my boyfriend and i were looking for arestaurantto go to in the area though we aren't super familiar with what's available as he just moved here. after shopping at barnes and noble at the plaza across the street, we saw the green valley grill and decided to give it a try. best decision of the week! this place was phenomenal. we started with the fried calamari, with a very crispy batter that wasn't too heavy at all. perfect portion size for an appetizer too, it left plenty of room for the entrees. my boyfriend got the wood-fired duck (which is the best duck i've ever tasted)... nice smoky flavor that is picked up very well in the polenta accompaniment. i had the pan-seared scallops with a blood orange sage beurre blanc. this dish was light and super flavorful, and the butternut squash-gouda gratin was amazing. for dessert we shared the creme brulee. the tart raspberry sauce that was on top was a perfect foil for the sweet custard. our waitress catie was awesome! very friendly, and gave us great recommendations on each course. also, one of the managers came over and gave us our dessert for free as it was our first visit there. overall, a perfect trifecta: amazing food, great atmosphere, and awesome, friendly staff. we'll be back for sure.
