located at 622 green valley road next to the o’henry hotel, the green valley grill offers fine dining, guilt free (reduced fat and sodium) selections and an extensive wine list. in addition to lunch and dinner, the restaurant serves brunch from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on sundays and a daily afternoon tea in the o’henry lobby from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. private rooms and catering are available. fine dining is as much about the eating experience as it is about the food, and in that regard, the green valley grill comes through. high ceilings and spacious booths ensure that the restaurant never feels crowded, even when it is full. the wait staff is prompt, professional and polite. of course, this would mean little if the food was not up to par with the presentation. fortunately gvg acquits itself nicely. an eclectic assortment of small plates includes everything from high-end burgers (the short rib sliders come recommended) to seafood to flatbreads.

very good food, nice large bar area. sister restaurant of print works bistro, of the two green valley serves a slightly more traditional american menu. the service is particularly efficient and knowledgeable. the bar is large, well laid out and spacious, rarely noisy, and we often eat there, especially at lunch. as with print works, the drinks tend toward the small, wine pours included - often a bottle of wine is the best buy.

among the small plates, the paella, savory pies, calamari, and the moroccan beef meatballs(sandwich or plate) are excellent choices. they offer a darn good burger - and it is. and the potato leek soup is special.

among the bigger plate items, the three way duck, veal scaloppini, short ribs, and the whole fish of the day are all nice items. most entrees run between $20 & $30, so this is not a source for cheap eats, but i find the excellent dishes worth the price.

the menu changes seasonally to some extent, and most items are good to excellent. last summer, they had a grilled cheese and tomato sandwich, on home made bread, that was a total killer. they actually bake the bread in large cans that originally contained vegetables and such - truth. hoping that bad boy will be returning once local tomatoes are available.

high quality. green valley grill has consistently served me good food, and i'd be pretty disappointed if they'd done anything else. i honestly don't tend to go to places as expensive as green valley grill, but i was very satisfied with the quality of the dishes i had.

during my lunch visit, i had an order of truffle fries. they were quite good, tossed with grated parmesan and served with a side of aioli. however, the order was much larger than i expected and landed me with conflicted feelings - i was glad to get more for my money, but i didn't need all that food. there were probably enough for 3 or more people to easily split. after i finished my meal, the waitress told me i could have gotten a half order, which was not listed on the menu. slightly irritating, but hey, not the biggest deal. my entree was a spinach salad topped with duck, walnuts, orange, and some (i hope i'm remembering correctly) goat cheese. the salad was very good, or i at least chose very well, because i felt like it hit the sweet spot between light and heavy that i was aiming at. the duck was very tasty, and went well with the occasional bit of orange to brighten it.

i later returned with a friend to share a dinner. we split a half order of the truffle fries, which she really enjoyed as well. for her entree, she had the parmesan crusted chicken, which she assured me was excellent. i had the rotisserie special, which that day was a twice smoked beef filet topped with a port wine reduction and gorgonzola served with mashed potatoes and cooked spinach. i was actually much happier with the choice i'd made on my previous trip, although the food was not bad. i wished there had been more of the sauce for the beef. they layered two pieces of beef over top of one another, then drizzled the sauce over the top piece, so that was really the only piece that had sauce - and the sauce was good, so i wanted more. really, steak and potatoes is often steak and potatoes, so i chalk it up to the limitations of the dish more than the restaurant.

i've never received bad service at green valley grill, so that's a definite plus. if it really matters to anyone, i did notice that the customer base tends to be a little older, which i expect is simply due to the price tag. you're not going to see too many college kids eating here.

amazing scallops. i have had some of the most amazing scallops when dining at green valley grill. in fact, i will stop for an order of scallops to go on occasion, they're that good. the caesar salad is pretty top notch as well.

gvg is an experience that will keep you coming back. the prices make this restaurant a “hidden gem” in a sense. there is not a dish that has come to my table that has not produced a “oh wow” reaction.

i have dined for brunch, lunch and dinner and i have never been disappointed. the ambience of the dining room is unique and the music sets a mood which is unique compared to any other establishment i have been to.

sunday brunch is probably the best time to go; the coffee is consistently some of the best i have had anywhere. the breads they provide for a starter have a crunchy crust and a moist inside. the truffle fries are “off the chain” amazing and the portion is enough for 4 people to share; i recommend them as an appetizer.

the menu is partly seasonal and always has an eclectic yet harmonious mix of dishes whose creation is clearly well thought out and include cheeses, herbs, sauces and extras that you do not find often. the consistent part of the menu has dishes that you can have over and over because the flavors are so good.

this is a place where you can have a gourmet burger for about $10 that will satisfy the biggest appetite or a fish or poultry entree that is both cutting edge and yet still feels like comfort food. this restaurant is solid in every way.

this is a nice restaurant with a very pleasant atmosphere and decent food. the food is fine, but not anything special. it didn't live up to the reviews i read.

the location is accessible but parking isn't abundant. the ambiance is subtle and inviting and very pleasant. our waiter was very helpful and attentive throughout the evening. i had a salad which was decent but far from the best i have had, especially at the cost. i don't eat croutons so i wish i had asked for them to be omitted but i spent about 5 minutes taking all of the croutons out. the chicken was well seasoned and the dressing was spicy but otherwise had minimal flavor. my wife had a pizza and she enjoyed it. she thoroughly enjoyed her drink as well. our only real concern- i don't want to call it a complaint - was the volume of the music. a little loud but romantic.

this is a review of a restaurant called green valley grill in greensboro, nc. last saturday hubby & i were in search of somewhere to eat near the whole foods. we decided to give this restaurant a try since the reviews online were so good and hard to find items like lamb burgers and trout were on the menu for lunch. we arrived around 1 pm and were seated right away even though it looked like there would be a wait since the restaurant was very full with customers. the staff dresses in black and white as you can see in one of the photos. read the rest of my review on my blog, link below.

(this restaurant scores a 5-star rating for ambience and decor). everything else gets a 4-star. the menu choices were excellent with a classic mix of southern and fine dining favorites. the wait staff was friendly, but a bit behind and not as attentive as they should have been. the food was very good, but extremely over priced for what you received. i had salmon, and it was an excellent cut atop a couscous blend... but not worth the $28.00 price tag. all in all a good restaurant when you want to impress or dress up for the night, but you can find the same dishes for much less and just as tasty elsewhere.

had dinner with the family on new years day.
great atmosphere, attentive and gracious service, mixed drinks awesome, and all of the food was fantastic.......including the kids menu entrees. pricing a little higher than some of our favorite, "upscale" chain restaurants we usually frequent when travelling through a new area (you know for certain what you will get) but worth every penny for this unique experience. you certainly get the value in the flavor and welcoming, stylish atmosphere. already looking for an excuse to get back to greensboro! one visit, now one of our faves.
