not good. the food isn't great, the meat is very salty and most of it is way to rare to serve. the cheese they served must have sat there the whole night because it was hard on the outside. same with the bread, it was stale. i didn't enjoy my meal and i was freezing the whole time. it's outdated with the decor and they don't have many options for cocktails. in general this place out of date or maybe they are just out of ideas. the meat runners are seen goofing off and pretending to trip each other which i think is unsafe considering that they are walking around this restaurant with knives. the woman at the door looked so miserable the wholetimei was there. i assume she is one of the owners because she came around to every table. she was also talking to herself in portuguese so i can only imagine what she was thinking. and the real kicker about her was that i heard her ask a waitress if one of the guests at her table was a retard because he was asking questions about the food because he had concerns. this man was clearly autistic and his table didn't even stay to eat. i won't be back to this restaurant because i wouldn't want to support someone so disrespectful.

excellent food. the meats are prepared medium to medium rare in most instances which is perfect. good house sangria. good house desserts. good house seafood bar. the staff is very attentive and the beers are very reasonable priced. proven winnertimeandtimeagain even if the decor isn't appealing to the younger crowds. the food speaks for itself. highly recommend the filet and mushroom sauce and fresh tuna. we come back every year and you can usually find a coupon in many publications. highly recommend and do not go to a chain for the love of all that is holy.

green means go!. the green forest brazilian restaurant is a great special occasion choice. it is an all you can eat style with a variety of fabulous food. i believe they have over 16 or 17 meat selections alone. they have disks marked green and red to alert your servers to stop or go with the meat offerings. they also have a hot and cold buffet, which is an expansive area in addition to the meats served table side. our gang referred to the service as "swords of meat".

the cold bar consists of many salads shrimp cocktail, oysters on the half shell, sushi and sashimi. the portabella salad was delicious as well as the grilled asparagus.

on the hot buffet they have lobster mashed potatoes and paella.
\
for dessert we enjoyed the coconut flan and passion fruit mousse (when tried together was the perfect combination of sweet & tart) which were both good. there were many other options too. please be aware that desserts may not be included in your special, so please check. they also have a well stocked bar. if you have a big appetite especially for meat, this is the certainly the place to go.

check out their website for specials. i have also seen groupon specials fromtimetotimetoo. on tuesdays and thursdays they have an early bird special from 4 - 6 pm: $37 instead of $42.50.

service was attentive and pleasant. also be aware that this restaurant is not visible from the main road (rodi rd), but it sits up in an office complex, conveniently located right off the parkway east, penn hills exit.

feast on meats... and many other delights!!!. green forest was amazing years ago, and it continues to be a favorite today. i have been there a couple times this past year, and eachtimewas reliably perfect. here are some details from our most recent visit:
the owners and staff are very welcoming and attentive. they really show pride for their restaurant, and that shines through in the food.
while the meat is the star of the show, the hot bar, and to a lesser extent salad bar, are awesome. the hot bar includes feijoada, a brazilian bean and sausage stew; rice; an unmissable seafood stew in coconut sauce containing mussels, fish, shrimp, and clams; beef vegetable soup; and other rotating dishes, like lobster mashed potatoes. all were great. the salad bar is worth visiting for its selection of fine hams and cheeses, but pasta salads and cold vegetable salads are good but not great.
then...the meat. waves and waves of meat. on your first visit from the meat server, they ask how you like your meat cooked and tend to offer you the pieces that are to your liking. i like my meat pretty rare, and every piece was cooked to my liking. after my husband and i leave, we like to see if we can remember all the meat the came around, and we counted 15. plus pineapple and garlic bread. some highlights were the parmesan-crusted filet, skirt steak with chimichurri, garlic filet cooked tableside (a new addition, i think), slab bacon, flank steak, ribeye (probably the overall favorite), turkey wrapped in bacon, filet wrapped in bacon, leg of lamb, and filet in red wine mushroom sauce. so, pretty much everything. :) to be fair, we aren't wild about the brazilian sausage, and the lamb chops were a little overcooked. but seriously, everything else was fantastic.
special shout out to our main meat server, who came around when we were slowing down to ask if there was anything particular we would like. we said that we wouldn't say no to some leg of lamb, which he brought around shortly thereafter. on that high note we admitted defeat and flipped our indicator-thingy to red, but he brought around some lamb chops right after, just to make sure we didn't want them. that was so thoughtful, he won extra points from both of us.
green forest is clearly still on top of it's game--- it's worth going to more than just once a year!

firsttimeeating brazilian. this was my firsttimeout to eat brazilian food and it was amazing! i will admit it was very hard to find, but once we were there it was well worth the slight confusion. the wait staff was very polite and helpful. i did not realize how centered the food was around meat so this is probably not the best choice if you are a vegetarian. but everything was very well cooked and clearly fresh. i would definitely recommend trying their version of sushi. the addition of fruit to something similar to a california roll was so fresh and light. it had a new flavor profile like i have never had before. i would recommend this as a great place out for a date or special night out!

best meat restaurant in the pittsburgh area - period!. our firsttimethere last night and we were blown away, totally authentic- the meats are outstanding - forget morton's or ruths chris - this is even better, and more variety. the raw bar, and hot foods are also to die for - and the service - they are all over the guests like white on rice, and very helpful, friendly courteous, but never intrusive. and the owners are contsantly viligant -tending to every detail. a culinary delight in every way - we shall go back again.!!
only one complaint - they should be located downtown pittsburgh around market square - !! please!!!!!! thank you for a fantastic experience!

this was my firsttimeat a brazilian restruarant. i enjoyed it greatly. we arrived at 6 and were the only patrons in the place. still the salad bar was fully stocked. the hot bar had decent food. and all our meat was fabulous. half way through our meal other tables arrive.
the service was great. our service was very friendly and attentive to our needs.
only thing lacking is the decor. it seemed a little strange and did not fit the cuisine in my opinion.
i definitely will make a return trip here!

horrible!. last month my husband and i went to a restaurant like this one in niagara falls called copacabana. it was so delicious that we looked to see if there was anything like it in pittsburgh. we found green forest online and were excited about trying it out, especially after reading the reviews. what a huge over-priced disappointment!

we paid $40 per person in niagara as well, but the meat there was spiced and cooked to perfection. the pineapple was served the same way as the meat, brought around to our table and freshly carved from the skewer. it was a fresh pineapple with maybe brown sugar and cinnamon spices...? what we were served last night was barely spiced fatty pieces of meat. the pineapple was like tasteless cardboard. it's a shame how much food we discarded especially for what we paid. i will say that the servers and bartender were friendly, but that was about the only good part of our experience.

we never write reviews, but we could not and cannot believe how this place got as many good reviews as it has. our guess is that there's no other place like this near pittsburgh to compare it to. pittsburghers, if you have a passport and 4 hours, the drive to canada is well worth it instead of wasting yourtimeand your money on this place.

show up hungry. dined here last year for valentine's weekend. we were pleased with our dining choice; we went early, for a lunch and dinner, and sat and ate for a long time.

the atmosphere is okay, though not particularly special. the waiters were nice and the service was good. don't waste yourtimeon the cold bar; get a little something, but save most of your calories for the main star: the meat.

the wide variety of meat was nice; some were better than others. we sat for three hours or more, talking and eating and enjoying ourselves.

warning: the desserts are really good, but they charge separately for each dessert. our waitress didn't make this clear and we got a little surprise when the bill came. they aren't too expensive, though.

overrated/gross. i waited a longtimeto try this place and when i finally did i was very disappointed. the meat was good but the salad bar and sides were disgusting. the place also does not look that clean and appears to be in need of some serious updating. i feel that they are over priced and i will not be returning anytimesoon.

man vs. meat on sticks.. if you want to get your $$$$ worth here, you will need to eat your face off. the buffet is nice, but not $42 a person nice. the things that won't make you feel so bad about walking out the door having spent lots of dough on a buffet: all you can eat oysters on the half shell, shrimp, crablegs and tons of meat. the staff was friendly and ..they were always walking around with freshly roasted meats. would i go back? that's a tough one. i just felt that after me and my dining partner left dropping $110 on dinner, i would have had a cocktail or 2, or even just dessert. don't get me wrong, i am happy to spend lots on good food. i just have a hardtimegrasping this one. food was good, but probably not worth the cost.

ignore the bad reviews. i have eaten at green forest on at least a dozen occasions with various friends and relatives and on every single occasion everybody has loved it. the food is always excellent, not to mention the caipirinhas, the staff friendly and the atmosphere relaxed. i took a small group of co workers for our annual night out this year, most of whom were sceptical about it and they all came away saying how much they'd enjoyed it and that they would certainly be taking their families back. . the early bird menu in particular is excellent value for money. i work in a big company and am frequently asked for restaurant recommendations by clients and each and every singletimei direct them to green forest.
very authentic brazilian food, i have been in brazil several times, so i know.

disapointed. when me and my boyfriend went to vegas we ate at a brazilian restaurant and it was amazing, so when i found green forest and seen the possitive repsonse i made reservations for his birthday couples dinner that we have every year. it wasnt horrible but i probably would of chose something else. the atmosphere was ok but i hate the location. the meat was very good with a very large selection that just kept coming but the sides didnt not compare. there was fish which i didnt try mashed potatoes which tasted funny and rice and beans which is pretty much what i ate all night. i love shrimp and crab legs but not cold and all of the seafood was cold. also i did not like the drinks either. if you have never went i would go onetimejust because there nothing else like it in pittsburgh but dont expect anythng to special.

endless meats. my firsttimeat this type of brazilian restaurant, but i am sure that it will not be my last. as previous posts indicate, it will really cater to meat lovers, and those with large appetites. as many have stated, it is rather pricey, but really not bad if you eat a lot, and especially for the quality of food. desserts and drinks are not included, but it is byob. many different beef, some sausage, chicken and a few lamb. the lamb was excellent, and the parmesian beef (tenderloin, i think) was suprising tasty and tender. their salad bar is underrated, i think, as most come for the meat. it has nice olives (including red olives), seafood salads, some tuna and salmon sashimi, cured meats (i think decent prosciutto, salami, and sopressata) among others. the black beans were also good - very smoky flavor. i have now been here twice, and my second visit was better than the first. the meats were all cooked medium rare (with some a little more on the rare side), while at my first visit a few were well done. the parmesan steak was wonderful both times - the parmesan flavor really comes through, much more than one would think. the flank steak was very tender, and the filet had a great crust on it. my piece was half crust, and it was awesome. the leg of lamb had quite a gamey flavor/grass fed flavor - which i love. the lamb chop was also great.
