love. yes, it's pricey, but it's worth it(not as pricey as the other about $60,against $42,) this is as close to brazilian food you get without actually being there... if not the exact thing. having been to other churrascarias here in us and brazil, the only diference isgreenforest doesn't have the same upscale decor them others churrascarias , but the food is better and have more options, they have more diferent meat and much more sea food in the salad and hot bar.

like it but with a catch. my overall experince withgreenforrest was mixed. like a previous reviewer i had been to a similar brazillan steakhouse in houston, tx and it was a mind blowing experience. i don't think i have eaten so well. the meat was amazing, the cold bar was amazing, the service was amazing, the sides on the table same.

again like the previous reviewer when i got back to pittsburgh sought out outgreenforrest. i knew it was there but it never sparked my interest until then. all in all the food was pretty good, the cold bar was ok, the hotbar was ok and the sides on the table again were ok. all in all the expereince was just ok. now my friend who had never heard of such a place was euphoric much the same i was at the place in houston.

in summary, there are much much better examples of brazillan steakhouses out there, just not in pittsburgh.greenforrest is not even in the same galaxy as some, but all things being equal it's not too bad. i'm not sure it's worth $40, but i would pay $30 and not feel too bad about it.

green means go!. thegreenforest brazilian restaurant is a great special occasion choice. it is an all you can eat style with a variety of fabulous food. i believe they have over 16 or 17 meat selections alone. they have disks markedgreenand red to alert your servers to stop or go with the meat offerings. they also have a hot and cold buffet, which is an expansive area in addition to the meats served table side. our gang referred to the service as "swords of meat".

the cold bar consists of many salads shrimp cocktail, oysters on the half shell, sushi and sashimi. the portabella salad was delicious as well as the grilled asparagus.

on the hot buffet they have lobster mashed potatoes and paella.

for dessert we enjoyed the coconut flan and passion fruit mousse (when tried together was the perfect combination of sweet & tart) which were both good. there were many other options too. please be aware that desserts may not be included in your special, so please check. they also have a well stocked bar. if you have a big appetite especially for meat, this is the certainly the place to go.

check out their website for specials. i have also seen groupon specials from time to time too. on tuesdays and thursdays they have an early bird special from 4 - 6 pm: $37 instead of $42.50.

service was attentive and pleasant. also be aware that this restaurant is not visible from the main road (rodi rd), but it sits up in an office complex, conveniently located right off the parkway east, penn hills exit.

feast on meats... and many other delights!!!.greenforest was amazing years ago, and it continues to be a favorite today. i have been there a couple times this past year, and each time was reliably perfect. here are some details from our most recent visit:
the owners and staff are very welcoming and attentive. they really show pride for their restaurant, and that shines through in the food.
while the meat is the star of the show, the hot bar, and to a lesser extent salad bar, are awesome. the hot bar includes feijoada, a brazilian bean and sausage stew; rice; an unmissable seafood stew in coconut sauce containing mussels, fish, shrimp, and clams; beef vegetable soup; and other rotating dishes, like lobster mashed potatoes. all were great. the salad bar is worth visiting for its selection of fine hams and cheeses, but pasta salads and cold vegetable salads are good but not great.
then...the meat. waves and waves of meat. on your first visit from the meat server, they ask how you like your meat cooked and tend to offer you the pieces that are to your liking. i like my meat pretty rare, and every piece was cooked to my liking. after my husband and i leave, we like to see if we can remember all the meat the came around, and we counted 15. plus pineapple and garlic bread. some highlights were the parmesan-crusted filet, skirt steak with chimichurri, garlic filet cooked tableside (a new addition, i think), slab bacon, flank steak, ribeye (probably the overall favorite), turkey wrapped in bacon, filet wrapped in bacon, leg of lamb, and filet in red wine mushroom sauce. so, pretty much everything. :) to be fair, we aren't wild about the brazilian sausage, and the lamb chops were a little overcooked. but seriously, everything else was fantastic.
special shout out to our main meat server, who came around when we were slowing down to ask if there was anything particular we would like. we said that we wouldn't say no to some leg of lamb, which he brought around shortly thereafter. on that high note we admitted defeat and flipped our indicator-thingy to red, but he brought around some lamb chops right after, just to make sure we didn't want them. that was so thoughtful, he won extra points from both of us.
green forest is clearly still on top of it's game--- it's worth going to more than just once a year!

amazing dining experience!. this isn't a restaurant, it's a food experience! my friends warned me ahead of time, and i am thankful. they said, "drink lots of water all day, but don't eat anything..." they were right. i have always been the carnivore's carnivore, but i must say, i have never eaten so many delicious meats in one meal as i had at thegreenforest. i was ready for the meats. what i wasn't ready for was the vast array of other foods that were prepared and waiting on a monstrous ice bar and in hot chaffing dishes. bring your own beer or wine, and prepare for the food experience of a lifetime! when they ask you if you want dessert, just laugh and try to burp. (you'll probably be too full to do either!) amazingly enough, even after some of the best roasted meats i have ever tasted, my favorite part was the brown sugar-encrusted spit-roasted pineapple! wow. you might want to bring a dolly so somebody can wheel you out of there when you finally say uncle.

green forest provides you about every type of food you could imagine but don't get lost in the small stuff as the amounts and varieties of meat they bring right to your table is amazing and great tasting as it bursts with flavor. my advice is leave your buttongreenso that you don't miss out on a thing.

more red forest, though you'll need plenty ofgreenwhen the bill comes. this isn't really a place to go for a quiet meal with friends or a loved one; it's where you go when you want to eat plenty of red meat. and you do get to eat plenty of red meat, and then pay for it. the quality and preparation ranges from reasonable to outstanding, the staff are friendly and pleasant.

i couldn't eat here more than once a year but i always enjoy it when i do go as much for the awesome variety as the quality of the food itself. one note of caution though; it's not for people who like their meats well done.

i've been to many churrascarias in la, new york, and even brazil.greenforest is definitely one of the best, if not the best of the bunch. churrascarias are meant to be casual mid-priced restaurants andgreenforest exceeds expectations in food quality, and especially in service at an affordable price. i would prefer to go multiple times togreenforest churrascaria than pay up the nose for a meal at fogo de chao in la, texas de brazil or plataforma ny. this is as good as it gets in the united states perhaps even in brazil. the servers get to know you and are very friendly. i really don't understand some of these 1-star ratings. are we eating at the same place?!

excellent!. we go there often and are treated like kings. we were there this saturday night and were welcomed as soon as we walked in. the place was fairly busy so they sat us in another room where it was quiet as there was only one other couple seated. the service was non stop and we were repeatedly asked if we needed anything else. i see some blogs that state that it is pricey which i totally disagree with. we go to the same type restaurants in california and the tab is usually almost three times what we spend there. i have my xmas party there for the folks that work for me and they all rave about it. i usually like to go to a different place every year but they all want to go back to thegreenforest.

horrible!. last month my husband and i went to a restaurant like this one in niagara falls called copacabana. it was so delicious that we looked to see if there was anything like it in pittsburgh. we foundgreenforest online and were excited about trying it out, especially after reading the reviews. what a huge over-priced disappointment!

we paid $40 per person in niagara as well, but the meat there was spiced and cooked to perfection. the pineapple was served the same way as the meat, brought around to our table and freshly carved from the skewer. it was a fresh pineapple with maybe brown sugar and cinnamon spices...? what we were served last night was barely spiced fatty pieces of meat. the pineapple was like tasteless cardboard. it's a shame how much food we discarded especially for what we paid. i will say that the servers and bartender were friendly, but that was about the only good part of our experience.

we never write reviews, but we could not and cannot believe how this place got as many good reviews as it has. our guess is that there's no other place like this near pittsburgh to compare it to. pittsburghers, if you have a passport and 4 hours, the drive to canada is well worth it instead of wasting your time and your money on this place.

amazing!. everything about thegreenforest is wonderful! i just couldn't wait to go back and eat again! yes, it's expensive, but worth every penny! i'd suggest if you are not a fan of really red/rare meats, this is not the place for you. but if you're a meat lover, it's perfect! all of the food is fresh and hot! the entire buffet consist of cold seafoods and seafood salads...some people prefer hot seafood, but the cold is just as tasty. the servic was wonderful! they made sure we had everything to make our dinner enjoyable! the setting is not what i expected, but the food made up for it! this is definitally worth the drive from greenville, pa to penn hills. i'd take this drive any day of the week!

ignore the bad reviews. i have eaten atgreenforest on at least a dozen occasions with various friends and relatives and on every single occasion everybody has loved it. the food is always excellent, not to mention the caipirinhas, the staff friendly and the atmosphere relaxed. i took a small group of co workers for our annual night out this year, most of whom were sceptical about it and they all came away saying how much they'd enjoyed it and that they would certainly be taking their families back. . the early bird menu in particular is excellent value for money. i work in a big company and am frequently asked for restaurant recommendations by clients and each and every single time i direct them togreenforest.
very authentic brazilian food, i have been in brazil several times, so i know.

disapointed. when me and my boyfriend went to vegas we ate at a brazilian restaurant and it was amazing, so when i foundgreenforest and seen the possitive repsonse i made reservations for his birthday couples dinner that we have every year. it wasnt horrible but i probably would of chose something else. the atmosphere was ok but i hate the location. the meat was very good with a very large selection that just kept coming but the sides didnt not compare. there was fish which i didnt try mashed potatoes which tasted funny and rice and beans which is pretty much what i ate all night. i love shrimp and crab legs but not cold and all of the seafood was cold. also i did not like the drinks either. if you have never went i would go one time just because there nothing else like it in pittsburgh but dont expect anythng to special.

meat lovers delight!. i've never been to a place like this before. a brazillian bbq. there is a buffet style appetizer bar and salad bar. my advice: don't fill up on this, you'll need the space later.

you have this little wood spool that looks like it was filled with thread at one time. one side is red and the other green. when you turn thegreenside up, people start to come to your table with a variety of meats on spits. about 20 of them! - beef ribs - short ribs - chicken - flank steak - lamb -tenderloin w/garlic - pork loin - pork ribs - prime rib - rib eye steak - sausage - skirt steak - top sirloin - turkey - filet with bacon - lamb chops.

each one of them was excellent. they don't have alcohol but you can byob. expect a corking fee. i would also recommend the lemon sorbet for dessert. light but very flavorful. the light part is important after all that meat.

remember - pace yourself and take small samples. there's plenty of food and plenty of time.
