unexpected surprise. i had scoped out dr. granville moore's on urbanspoon before i got to town (visiting for work from nc). it was probably a long walk (or short cab ride) from my hotel near the capitol and the fare was to my liking.
so glad i was there on an "off night" (the evening after memorial day). it was pretty quiet (apparently it's not out of the ordinary to wait for a table for a few hours, according to the staff). i was able to get a seat at the bar (all by my lonesome) and be served by nikki. yes, she was an ex-high school cheerleader, but i found her temperament to be completely opposite of the previous reviewer--very friendly!
the mussels were quite well done and reasonably priced for the quantity/quality. i also enjoyed dipping the nearly full loaf of bread in the soup the mussels were swimming in. nikki was pushing one of the belgian beers they had in bottles (which they have quite a large selection of), but i wanted a draft beer. i settled on a scotch ale instead.
as the night wore on (fyi, i arrived about 15 minutes before the kitchen closed at 10pm) i enjoyed hanging out with the staff and learning a bit about the neighborhood surrounding the restaurant.
i was hoping to make it back for another drink before i left town, but my next visit will have to wait until i'm back in dc for work in august.
...and i will definitely be making another visit! thanks for a wonderful experience nikki, andy, and alyse!
