gordys? i'll pass.. i lived in cloquet for 12 yrs and still have family there, so i'm up there quite a bit. i loved gordys when i was a kid (probably because i wasnt paying) butyearafteryearit seems like the portions get smaller and the prices get bigger. its average food. being a family of 3, we can eat at a way better restaurant for the same price we pay there. we still eat there at least once a season, purely for tradition.

ok, but not as it's hyped up to be. i've lived in cloquet for 20 years, so i have eaten at gordy's regularly. not frequently, but a few times each season. it's one of those things where everyone talks about it, you live here, you feel you should be supportive of them. first of all, they are really nice people and do a lot for the community. second, their food is consistent. you can order the exact same thing ayearapart, and it will be the same, which can't often be said for restaurants. but in my opinion (and my husband's, and my son's among others), the food is average. many of the menu items are short on taste. the fries are the one thing i think are really good. the burgers are nothing special. one thing that is very much below average--the coney dogs. it's a fun place to go, the people are nice, but i can make a better burger at home.

top notch. pay no attention to the blog posted above. gordy's hi-hat is a classic restaurant where you can always expect excellent food and tremendous service. i have been stopping there at least 20 times ayearsince i started traveling north to my cabin in 1986.

my recommendations:
the fish burgers are huge and always delicious
the onion rings are a must have. they are made fresh every morning... so you know they're good.
the shakes are also made with real fruit and blended by hand when you order. i suggest the blackberry, or strawberry banana.

gordy's hi-hat get's two thumbs up!
