gordy's hi-hat , cloquet, minnesota, is one of those"local legends" that the media seems to love, it's been open since 1960. it was started, and is still operated by the family who owned one of duluth's (30 miles to the ne) first, and beloved drive-ins, t

double cheeseburgers. brought my family of 7 in and feasted on these bad boys. great food, great atmosphere, it was 10:30 am and gordy was there supervising. legendary food and the staff backs it up. highly recommended.

burgers are a hit or miss based on your taste buds. i don't care for them.
their malts are some of the best around, and i really enjoy the strawberry one.
sides are great (fries, onion rings).
the fish burger has 4 pieces of fish, quit a bit too eat and is tasty for what it is.
staff work hard and the place is always busy.
ac works, good hit day stop in the summer.

average at best. here is the setting for when to eat at gordy's hi-hat:

it is a nice summer day, you are in the mood for food..a burger to be exact...but also in the mood for a certain type of atmosphere...a drive-in atmosphere and your taste buds don't care as much about quality or flavor. well gordy's hi-hat is up the hill or slightly down the hill depending on where you live.

the food is average at best burgers lack any really flavor, you can only expect so much from an onion. the malts, fish, and fries are very tasty though...a cut above most. but for the rest don't expect much or you will be disappointed. the service is good and the staff is friendly. the pricing needs a little polishing though...or maybe i mean sanding because there are too many high spots. but gordy's hi-hat is marketing off the vintage and specialty of what it serves for the area.

i would like to point out i did not give this restaurant a thumbs up or a thumbs down.

i have never been able to go here and not get a shake or malt and you shouldn’t either. my personal favorite is the strawberry shake, it has nice size pieces of strawberry in it and the ice cream they use is excellent.

the best fish sammich i've ever had. when i lived in mn, like many "city-iots" whenever we headed "up north" we made a stop at gordy's one of our highest priorities. gordy's has by far the best fish sammich i've ever wrapped a taste bud around. the fish, the batter, the bun...all perfect. it sets my mouth to watering just thinking about it. rarely do i get past the fish sammich but when i do, i head right for the burgers. a nice little "beer joint" style burger with the works...it's hard to beat. also worth mentioning are the onion rings. not sure how they do it, might be the same batter that they use on the fish but these babies are goooooood. two thumbs up for gordy's...

note: only open seasonally, so yer gonna have to wait until around fishin' opener to get ya some.

i think there is too much a hype after being on triple d. the fries are not freshly cut and the burgers are not big and messy, like any good burger should be. i'll take the anchor or big daddy's any day!

gordys? i'll pass.. i lived in cloquet for 12 yrs and still have family there, so i'm up there quite a bit. i loved gordys when i was a kid (probably because i wasnt paying) but year after year it seems like the portions get smaller and the prices get bigger. its average food. being a family of 3, we can eat at a way better restaurant for the same price we pay there. we still eat there at least once a season, purely for tradition.

just off the plane.... ... the hotel room isn't ready, so what to do? why, go to gordy's hi-hat, what else? absolutely packed with after church locals, vacationers, and out-of-towners, the line was incredibly long but disturbingly fast. i'll swear they made 30+ folks very happy in about 15 minutes. the fish sandwich was killer, the cheeseburger was killer, the cheese curds were (almost literally) killer, and the onion rings were, you guessed it, killer. also, don't forget gordy's warming house next door in the same lot for ice cream and coffee decadence.

ok, but not as it's hyped up to be. i've lived in cloquet for 20 years, so i have eaten at gordy's regularly. not frequently, but a few times each season. it's one of those things where everyone talks about it, you live here, you feel you should be supportive of them. first of all, they are really nice people and do a lot for the community. second, their food is consistent. you can order the exact same thing a year apart, and it will be the same, which can't often be said for restaurants. but in my opinion (and my husband's, and my son's among others), the food is average. many of the menu items are short on taste. the fries are the one thing i think are really good. the burgers are nothing special. one thing that is very much below average--the coney dogs. it's a fun place to go, the people are nice, but i can make a better burger at home.

good food, very greasy. i know, i know what should i expect? but, honestly the food is super greasy. we were visiting duluth and had just heard that this place was on ddd so we decided to stop. the shakes were very good and so was the food, i am just saying prepare to have a grease hangover when you're done.

i have to tell you, i'm not sure what all the hype is? it's a pretty common burger and a pretty common shake? i will say that they are pretty fast, however so are most fast food restaurants? i don't get it?

not real impressed with this place. way too much hype from the recent visit by triple-d. i ordered a cheeseburger, fries, butterscotch malt, and the chicken wild rice soup. all the food i ordered was below par on the tase factor except the fries. it was really busy when i went, so maybe that had something to do with the quality.
