thought the food was excellent. didn't care much for the mass quantities as i was eating by myself and it turned into food overload.

ordered soup and a beef dish. the soup wasgoodbut a huge portion. they don't do cups so it is meal sized or nothing. the entrée was similar. much more than i and possibly a friend could hope to finish - not to mention the bowl of rice that came with it.

i expect that i will be returning - but with reinforcements!

the best pho in town hands down... but...

the seating is crowded and too small. their family is always there sitting in the nicer dining area which is a little tacky.
the service is never consistent... you have the plump asian waitress who is very nice, but then you have the order taking staff is rude and would rather they not be there talking to you.
the other wait staff are just not verygoodat their job.

food, good... everything else... sucks.

authentic chinese food - but a vast variety of options for your entire family and friends! fast service, clean dining area, and hot, quick food.

it has been several months since our last visit here, but this time, my friends and i decided to have a quick bite to eat here. the atmosphere was very lively; golden phoenix was pretty busy with the vast amount of people going in and out for take-outs, and for those patrons eating in the dining area. the menu has a variety of chinese, vietnamese, and chinese-american influenced dishes, and has tons of options for the individual take-out pick up to a family of 10 sitting down and sharing hot pot together.

as for us? we ordered the young chow fried rice, shrimp and green onions with garlic butter sauce, and chicken with bamboo chutes. the food was hot and prepared within minutes. my only complaint with the meals was that for the price, they could have been bigger portions, but my company were pleased with the experience. in the past, the servers used to "not give us the time or day" but the servers were 'tag-teaming' all the tables, meaning, service was very attentive; our waters never ran dry, dirty and empty dishes were removed from the table, and they gave us our check when they knew we were satisfied with our meals. while i did mention that the portions could have been bigger, the price were relatively the same ($$) compared to many of the sit-down restaurants nearby.

overall, it was another fantastic experience. the food definitely leans more towards chinese-american influences, but still grasps its roots of authentic chinese (mandarin and cantonese) food in the end. golden phoenix is sure to satisfy many!

tip: if you are wanting to have agoodmeal in asian district, but are hesitant about diving straight into chinese food, there are many options for you to try. if you are adventurous like me, keep in mind a 'protein' and 'vegetable' that you like (ex. shrimp and garlic). scan the menu and find one of that combination (or close to it). if you are unsure about that, scan that protein section and choose one. take the plunge!

tip: if you are indecisive like me at times, look around you. do this especially if it is a busy lunch or evening. you will see some dishes on people's table (you can be a ninja about it - trust me, people will be entrapped by their food) and choose one like that. this is how my husband and i try new dishes sometimes - and it's great!

tip: if your meal comes with complimentary white rice, always bring it home. even if you don't eat your leftovers until 2 days later, that rice will begoodup to 2-3 days and can be re-heated easily with your meal. just saying!

thanks for reading!

golden phoenix - great! just like before.. golden phoenix has really come a long way since the fire that burnt most of the building. when they re-opened, it was something that we were greatly anticipating, but were disappointed when we came back and the food was bland. well, we went a week ago and it's like before! it's delicious, and has everything for anyone - authentic chinese or not. definitely give it a try - i know we'll be coming back!

exquisite authentic chinese food - must go!. my all-time favorite restaurant here in uptown okc. the restaurant is on the corner of a chinese grocery and on classen blvd. you may drive past it, and it may look like a small place, but when you go in, it's pretty large. don't expect too great of a service. but! the food is amazing! so much choices and all of it is really delicious. all-time favorite is the duck and house special fried rice. we've tried the calamari (they were okay, but in an authentic place, i like baby squids). mandarin ribs were good, but again, the duck! the duck is very delicious and everything is family-style (meaning big proportions when ordered and everyone shares this meal together), so bring a group of friends. afterwards, maybe go to cafe oasis for some boba drinks. you won't be disappointed! try it out!

a wonderful place to dine if you are looking for a family-style meal that consists of a variety of vietnamese and/or chinese traditional food. the portions are reasonable and there are a variety depending on the size of meal that you want.
the service is kind of slow and the servers are not attentive.
i like the price of thai tea with boba of the cost of $2.50

it is agoodplace to take family members that are out-of-state or large groups of friends for a fun-dining experience. this place also has a banquet room. :-)

absolute worst service i've received in my life!. i was just there today and my friend went inside to order 4 taro smoothies to go. she went inside at 7:15 pm and ordered immediately. i sat patiently outside for twenty minutes! i went inside to see what was taking so long and they were just taking the money and bringing the first 2 drinks. our ticket reads that we paid at 7:39:18 pm and we still waited after that for agood5 minutes for the other two drinks! they had 5 tables they were serving (i counted) and 2 waitresses. it should not take nearly half an hour to make 4 drinks even on their busiest day. to top it off when our change was brought back we weren't given back the full amount of our change! our total was $14:63 we paid with a $20 bill and got back $5. this is absolutely ridiculous.

the food is great. usually, the service is decent. there have been times when i have gone and they had great service, other times not so much. the food is always on point, though. cannot complain about the food. the atmosphere is great as well. i love the huge menu. there is always something new and delicious to try. i love the classen location. the midwest city location is not as big and does not have as many options. it's quite different from the original classen location, but it isgoodfor some of the usual pho/typical chinese dishes.

go for the noodles.. this place offers a variety of asiatic cusine. the service is best during prime dining hours. family dining meals are given the best service by far. consider going with a larger group if you would like to have the best possible experience at this restaurant. order a family dinner for 8 to 16 people at a round table. it'sgoodto book it in advance. if you are dining on your own try the dumplings and a combination flat noodle. if you like it spicy state your case very firmly. they are timid when it comes to adding heat for americans. overall this place providesgoodquality food for the price and an average dining experience. the menu offers in excess of 100 entree options. the fermented fish is a must have if you are doing the family dinner.

rude!. food isgoodhere and service is nice and attentive. but the cashier guy is always super rude, especially when i order to go. the only time he's not rude is when i come in with my asian family, who eats there all the time. i usually go at least twice a month, bring friends and tip very generously for the last 5 years. but i hate knowing that i'm making him and his family business successful when he's so rude all the time. i'll be looking into supporting other authentic restaurants such as fung's kitchen, chow's, etc. instead of here.

good food! being vietnamese myself, i have high standards. the food tastes like my moms homemade food, but i've never felt so disrespected service wise. the asian man that is runs the cash register or whatever, i assume he owns golden phoenix, each time i've come in, he had a bad attitude and likes to give attitude to me and to other customers. lighten up. your food isgoodbut notgoodenough for you to be an a-word. definitely lost my business forgoodafter your attitude yesterday.

second visit asgoodas the first. on my second visit to golden phoenix i was greeted quickly, shown to a table and had hot tea within a minute of sitting down. i ordered the shrimp rolls as an appetizer and pork with snow peas (which they made spicy for me). both arrived quickly and with a very nice presentation. the shrimp rolls are like traditional vietnamese spring rolls (thin wrapper, veggies, a little shrimp) and they were quite plump with a nice peanut dipping sauce. the pork and snow peas was beautiful in appearance and the taste was wonderful--i ate every bite. my only issue was that the ac was pretty chilly and i wished i had a jacket, otherwise the food was great and the service was very attentive.

very authentic, very good. this place meets all my criteria for a great asian restaurant. first, you see a great variety of dishes, including a lot of things you don't see in most standard places; second many of the patrons are asian; third, it smelled wonderful before i even got in the front door. i was greeted warmly and shown to a table right away. my server was friendly and prompt. the two dishes i ordered were snow pea tips in garlic sauce and beef with lemongrass and chili. both were wonderful. the snow peas were delicious and cooked perfectly. the beef was so tender you could tell it was top quality meat and the flavor was addictive. i didn't want to get full, i just wanted to keep putting more in my mouth!

don't touch my spoon.goodfood & huge selection. nothing crazy justgoodchinese. i had beef pho which was really good. for some reason several other tables that got there after me were served first. i guess they forgot my meal in the back. after mentioning it to my server she quickly went to the back and my food was out quickly.

strange thing happened, this older lady seated across from me walks over and snatches up my spoon. she says, "hold it like this." and then smiles.goodthing this was a older lady because i probably would have smacked her upside the head. i just looked at her and said, "ok". people...please don't grab my spoon and tell me how to hold it.

good food, goodprices. these are the dishes that i like so far: crispy pork and rice (served with delicious gravy!), pan fried squid, beef lo mein; korean short rib platter, pho with meatballs, beef flat noodles; singapore noodles, vermicelli bowl with spring rolls, and roasted duck with rice. my husband and i eat here often and we usually stick to what we know is good. i think i've only been disappointed twice in the last 3 years i've eaten there. sometimes service is slow and sometimes it's extremely cramped, but the food is good.
