the food has been great every trip. especially love the eggplant and tofu, pan fried squid, roast duck, among others. the soups are outstanding no matter which you choose. and the chili oil is a plus! we always go during the late afternoon when it is not as crowded. the staff is always helpful with choices. would visit more often if we lived closer!

not closed. i went by the newly remodeled restaurant and had the pleasure of dinner there.
the wait staff helped me with my order and she made an excellent choice for this non-asian diner.
the food was wonderful and the service was very fast.
i highly recommend it!

beware, they don't always know what's in their food.. i ate lunch today with a co-worker. when ordering, i always ask "does this contain shrimp or shellfish?" (i can't do either because i get very sick). i ordered the wonton soup and a plate of rice, the menu said nothing of it containing shrimp or shellfish. i asked when i ordered, and they assured me it did not contain any shrimp or shellfish. the first bite i took of the soup was a big meaty wonton with shrimp. to make sure, i cut another wonton in half and sure enough, there was shrimp. i informed the waiter that he was wrong about the soup and that shrimp/shellfish makes me sick. they just said they were sorry, asked if i wanted a togo box for my soup or rice, and gave me the check! i will never eat here again because the staff doesn't seem to know what's in their own food, nor do they care to make it right when they make a mistake. had i been someone that has a more severe reaction/allergy it could have killed me. no thank you.

a friend and i ate lunch here today.  1.  the soda machine was not working, and i received only one can of soda, although my glass was empty for quite some time.  as far as i know, there are people who can repair such machines.  my entree, the "spicy garlic chicken" was not spicy and there was very little garlic.  furthermore, the prices were about double what is listed here.
we will not return to be disappointed again.

this is my favorite place to eat in okc. you want and adventure and want to try a variety order bo 7 ways. then adventure out from there. any thing they make here is good. you want simple chicken fried rice, it will be made to order and the best chicken fried rice. this place is always busy and there is a reason for it.

this is one of the nicer chinese restaurants in the okc metro.  the menu is numbered, just like what you would find at a strip mall chinese take-out place, but the menu is much more extensive than that take-out place.  you can admire the live fish and lobster in tanks, waiting to be ordered by a future customer, or you can take a walk up to the meat case to gaze into the hollow eyes of a roasted pig's head.  this is all on top of some very nice looking furniture and attractive wall decorations.

i went here with a friend of mine for lunch on the tuesday after christmas.  i am glad that i told him to meet me there at 11:45 am because it was full by the time we finished up around 12:45 pm.  i ordered kung pao chicken, while he ordered noodles with stir fried chicken and vegetables.  my kung pao chicken was just about right.  the dried red peppers were spicy, the peanuts helped to cool down the spiciness, the chicken was diced into bite sized pieces, and there was a fair amount of sauteed bell peppers and onions mixed in.  my only problem with the dish is that the onion was not cooked enough to take out the bite that raw white onion presents.

my friend liked his chicken and noodles.  i was impressed that he ate the entire entree.  we both agreed that the portion sizes were generous.  i decided to take home half of the chicken that was served to me.  i splurged on christmas day.  today it was back to more realistic sized portions.

with a menu this large and so many other dishes to try, i will definitely have to return.

we loved this place! ate here on a whim as the place we wanted to go to was closed. uh oh - 3 kids and the buffet is closed. we stopped here as we knew it was just a few blocks away. the menu was huge - another heart-pounding fright. how in the world would the kids ever pick something. 10 minutes later not only had we chosen our dishes, but they arrived! lucked out!
egg drop soup - not salty enough, but tasted very fresh
salted squid - magnificent, a must get; perfectly cooked and huge portion
mongolian beef - best i've ever had; great char on beef and onions still crisp
kung pao chicken - not my favorite, but i don't like peanut sauce or warm peanuts
squid with chili and lemon grass - not too spicy, but very well flavored; squid was a bit more rubber banded than the salted squid
squid with stir fry veggies - not spicy at all and nicely flavored; chewiness level about the same as prior dish
steamed pork belly - if you like bacon, you will love pork belly. take bacon (which is cured pork belly) and concentrate the porkiness and give it the texture of slow cooked pulled pork shoulder and a melt in your mouth fat vein.
caramelized fish in a clay pot - flavor was excellent. rich, meaty, earthy. made with catfish, so a bit of dirtiness. the only drawback - lots of bones. will not buy again just because of bones. but again, flavor - amazing!
beef with pepper - very rich sauce, peppers very toothsome, and beef with great char.
service was friendly and ridiculously fast. busy, but not loud or unpleasant. menu is giant. so many options, some of which are quite unique. only $60 to feed 5 people. or $36 for two appetizers and two dinners. amazing prices.

thought the food was excellent. didn't care much for the mass quantities as i was eating by myself and it turned into food overload.

ordered soup and a beef dish. the soup was good but a huge portion. they don't do cups so it is meal sized or nothing. the entrée was similar. much more than i and possibly a friend could hope to finish - not to mention the bowl of rice that came with it.

i expect that i will be returning - but with reinforcements!

the menu is huge with a dizzying array of dishes, some really strange. unfortunately i got sick as a dog after eating there.  concerned about their cleanliness now, its on my do not eat list.

my favorite chinese restaurant in the city. a bit pricy but excellent. the best roast duck i've ever had and the waterspinach is excellent. you'll be missing out if you don't come by.

the best pho in town hands down... but...

the seating is crowded and too small. their family is always there sitting in the nicer dining area which is a little tacky.
the service is never consistent... you have the plump asian waitress who is very nice, but then you have the order taking staff is rude and would rather they not be there talking to you.
the other wait staff are just not very good at their job.

food, good... everything else... sucks.

authentic chinese food - but a vast variety of options for your entire family and friends! fast service, clean dining area, and hot, quick food.

it has been several months since our last visit here, but this time, my friends and i decided to have a quick bite to eat here. the atmosphere was very lively; golden phoenix was pretty busy with the vast amount of people going in and out for take-outs, and for those patrons eating in the dining area. the menu has a variety of chinese, vietnamese, and chinese-american influenced dishes, and has tons of options for the individual take-out pick up to a family of 10 sitting down and sharing hot pot together.

as for us? we ordered the young chow fried rice, shrimp and green onions with garlic butter sauce, and chicken with bamboo chutes. the food was hot and prepared within minutes. my only complaint with the meals was that for the price, they could have been bigger portions, but my company were pleased with the experience. in the past, the servers used to "not give us the time or day" but the servers were 'tag-teaming' all the tables, meaning, service was very attentive; our waters never ran dry, dirty and empty dishes were removed from the table, and they gave us our check when they knew we were satisfied with our meals. while i did mention that the portions could have been bigger, the price were relatively the same ($$) compared to many of the sit-down restaurants nearby.

overall, it was another fantastic experience. the food definitely leans more towards chinese-american influences, but still grasps its roots of authentic chinese (mandarin and cantonese) food in the end. golden phoenix is sure to satisfy many!

tip: if you are wanting to have a good meal in asian district, but are hesitant about diving straight into chinese food, there are many options for you to try. if you are adventurous like me, keep in mind a 'protein' and 'vegetable' that you like (ex. shrimp and garlic). scan the menu and find one of that combination (or close to it). if you are unsure about that, scan that protein section and choose one. take the plunge!

tip: if you are indecisive like me at times, look around you. do this especially if it is a busy lunch or evening. you will see some dishes on people's table (you can be a ninja about it - trust me, people will be entrapped by their food) and choose one like that. this is how my husband and i try new dishes sometimes - and it's great!

tip: if your meal comes with complimentary white rice, always bring it home. even if you don't eat your leftovers until 2 days later, that rice will be good up to 2-3 days and can be re-heated easily with your meal. just saying!

thanks for reading!

golden phoenix - great! just like before.. golden phoenix has really come a long way since the fire that burnt most of the building. when they re-opened, it was something that we were greatly anticipating, but were disappointed when we came back and the food was bland. well, we went a week ago and it's like before! it's delicious, and has everything for anyone - authentic chinese or not. definitely give it a try - i know we'll be coming back!

exquisite authentic chinese food - must go!. my all-time favorite restaurant here in uptown okc. the restaurant is on the corner of a chinese grocery and on classen blvd. you may drive past it, and it may look like a small place, but when you go in, it's pretty large. don't expect too great of a service. but! the food is amazing! so much choices and all of it is really delicious. all-time favorite is the duck and house special fried rice. we've tried the calamari (they were okay, but in an authentic place, i like baby squids). mandarin ribs were good, but again, the duck! the duck is very delicious and everything is family-style (meaning big proportions when ordered and everyone shares this meal together), so bring a group of friends. afterwards, maybe go to cafe oasis for some boba drinks. you won't be disappointed! try it out!
