gogyo is a master in theramenworld, does gogyo have the bestramenin sydney??? that's a resounding yes for me, although to be fair i haven’t tried all theramenin sydney. the kogashi are a wonderful heavy specialtyramen– if you chose to indulge regularly you would die but on occasion they are dishes that will blow your mind but not your wallet. iframenis your game and you have yet to visit gogyo – you need to fix this culinary discrepancy immediately.

sarah, jeff and i went to gogyo well over two months ago, so this post is extremely delayed. our gang of three meet often over food. it’s surprising that we’re able to do this when we each have very different interests and different palates, yet we somehow manage to make eating out together, work.ramenis one of the food items that sits squarely, at the crux of our venn diagram.

went to gogyo with a couple of friends. was greeted with friendly customer service which was quite prompt. ordered the 2ndramenon the list and quite enjoyed it. wouldn't be aramenthat i would eat everyday but something to try out. had some of the other smaller dishes as well which were well flavoured. the eggplant and chicken kaarage especially were amazing. only downside is that it's a bit more expensive than your usual japanese food but you pay for quality ingredients and quality service.

the burnt misoramenwas amazing, the smell as it was put on the table filled me with the smell of caramelised teriyaki. the broth was rich, with hints of garlic and sweetness.

myself and partner headed here on a saturday night and got there about 6:45 - they said and hour wait so we headed to kegs n brews and waited, headed back after an hour and no call so just asked and she had us sat in five minutes. we had the gyoza and karrage to start and that was delicious, not drop dead amazing - but delicious. matt had the chiliramenand he was crying through out the meal, but he assured me good tears and theramenwas not for the faint of heart. my kogashiramenwas other worldly and was unlike anything i’ve had - liquified burnt fat - i was skeptical but my goodness it was great! i would go again for the ramen, but make a booking! i’ll be back!

amazing experience. bestramenever. piping hot soup - just the way i like it and had pork fat floating on the top just like the onomichi stylerameni had in japan. egg was tasty despite not being soya sauce marinated. i finished half the soup because it was not too salty like howramencan be sometimes. noodles were cooked to perfection, chewy but not undercooked. bamboo shoots didn't taste like it was straight from the jar. we had fun sitting at the bar watching the staff follow their meticulous process of making the ramen. school prawns were light and crunchy. loved the seaweed flakes on it. dessert was taikyaki with sobacha sorbet. you can't get any more japanese than that. could not find any faults except for the music at full blast in the bathroom and no non-acholic beverage menu. will come back for sure to try the otherramenflavours.

been meaning to try this place for so long and finally scored a booking, this is more of a high endramenjoint so i do recommend booking or else you’d have to wait quite abit for walk ins as they are quite busy on the weekend.
love the ambience and service was exceptional!! i got the charred misoramenand my partner ordered the chilli shoyu, and we started with salmon sashimi and wagyu tataki was to die for, definitely recommend ordering the wagyu.

the charred miso on the other hand is not for the faint hearted, flavours are super bold and you can definitely taste the “charred” flavour, unfortunately not my cup of tea i probably prefer the original tonkotsuramenmore.
my partner did enjoy his chilli shoyu ramen, and let me tell you it definitely chilli!

overall experience was lovely, service was good and the restaurant did have a lovely ambience, there is also a small wine & cocktail list, definitely suitable for a social night out with friends or family as well!

this is an experience rating and not the food quality rating. experience is terrible. we waited for 45 minutes for 2 bowls oframenand we asked for a follow-up several times. one staff did not even check and stated that our order is on its way. one of the wait staff stated that walk-in customers would need to wait more for there food compared to the people who made reservations, wth!!!! that is ridiculous. one waitstaff is even rude.

the kogashi is the best thing, and their vegetarianramenis the worst thing (same vegetarianramenas ippudos). please dont bring your vegetarian friends here. but as for meat eaters the smokiness of the charredramenis everything 👌👌👌.

one of my favouriteramenjoints in sydney @gogyo.surryhills. i still remember the first time visiting this place, how elegant and sophisticated this place was (and still is).

i would visit this place whenever i’m around the city and craving ramen. my go to is tori shoyu - which comprises of clear chicken broth, shoyu dashi, umami egg, bamboo shoot and pork belly. every bite was so flavoursome.

cannot wait to go back here.

nothing beats good quality ramen. great for those cold days. gogyo offers a limitedramenmenu however each dish seems refined. can get quite busy on weekends so i suggest booking in advanced. staff is attentive. would recommend

i definitely had myramenfix after visiting gogyo for lunch! the weather was cold and raining, we were seated quite quickly even though they were busy for a monday lunch.

we ordered a few dishes - their signature ramen, tonkatsu, sukiyaki spring rolls and karaage chicken. i compared both ramens and actually preferred the tonkatsu broth over their signature. the signature has a more bitter flavour however the tonkatsu has more of a porky and depth of flavour.

the spring rolls were amazing and i really also enjoyed the karaage chicken. the food came out quickly and staff were super friendly with us.

we had no bad issues overall with the restaurant. the only thing is that i preferred the tonkatsu over their signature. i would come back again to try their dinner menu.

real rating: 8.7/10

we ordered the burnt misoramenand the tonkotsu ramen. personally, i liked the tonkotsuramenmore, as the soup base was really flavourful. when food is done well, it can be an art. i would say the burnt misoramenis an acquired taste, while i can see why some people might like it, it’s definitely not for everybody.
