perhaps i got unlucky with my food, or perhaps godinho bar & restaurant is an icon basking in past glory -- i suspect it is more of the latter.

based mostly on reviews i was keen to try the place but came away unimpressed/disappointed. iordereda beef onion steak with egg & chips. i got my daily salt intake times two with that steak.

the place seems run-down. loud dance music blares unnecessarily in a near-empty room. the single waiter seems uninterested - messes up the lime-soda. despite the lack of diners, service takes ages. and the product is average. will not be returning.

so i'd made a visit here as per the advice of old timers who swore by the food. it's old in godinho and feels comfy. but the service was slow, so slow. we'dorderedroast beef (and boy was it good), the poi fresh and the beer cold. i've got to make another trip there for sure.

had pork chops, pork roast and sausage pulao with my cousin yesterday. we are from assam and needless to say, we love our pork. the roast and pulao were okayish for our tastes (but then we have had a lot of pork and sausages in our lifetime. you might love it) but at least, the quantity certainly made up for it.

but the pork chops were honestly one of the best i've ever had. i wish we'dorderedmore. the manager was very helpful indeed. he patiently explained the difference between pork chops and pork cream chops ( the latter is more dry) and recommended we try the pork chops even though the cream chops cost a bit more.

nice quiet place. total bill came out around 1000 for us, which along with two beers was good enough. going to try the pork sizzler today :)

best places to have goan food. everything weorderedwas perfect with distinct flavours to each dish. we tried the goan style chicken curry, sausage pulav and their beef chilly fry. the sausage pulav is a must try and the beef chilly was one of the best we had in goa.

godinho bar and restaurant is in panaji in goa. we went to this place coming from dona paula in the evening.

this place, though difficult to find, is diagonally opposite to the famous kamat restaurant.

mom, wife and kid went to nearby pure veg kamat.

my neice and i headed for godinho. we asked few shops and passersby but not many knew about this place. was surprised since few reviewers had written that it was famous place.

finally one roadside shopkeeper corrected my pronunciation (god-he-know) and said that its (gudh-he-know). i was happy that at least someone could guide us to this place.

i had nearbuy open vouchers worth rs 1400 bot for 900 (36% discount).

the restaurant ambiance is like irani joints which u used to see in south mumbai (especially in churchgate-fort area). simple chair and tables old ceiling fans.

we first sat in the ac section but since we were just two of us there found it a bit weird and so came out in the non ac section.

there was a large tv which ran star movies in non-hd state.

sitting area is small.

there was just one waiter to cater and i believe it because it was offseason.

weorderedchicken cafreal suggested by someone saying that it was spicy. the boneless option was price for rs 350 and with bone was for rs 280. we opted for boneless.

chicken cafreal was green masala based dry but not spicy at all. it came with fresh, hot and tasty finger chips. chicken pieces were fresh but tasted bland. had it with kingfisher pint (rs 80). would have tasted better if it was at least mildly spicy.

soorderedagain and specifically requested to be made very spicy. but i guess the masalas were pre made and there were no green chilies in the restaurant. for it came in the exactly the same state as in the first time.

ordered fried pomfret fish (rs 450 for palm sized) and biryani chicken (rs 300).

again fish fry was deep fried and tasteless. packed some of the food to eat it later at the hotel.

thankfully biryani was good.

all this plus 5 pints of beer for rs 1800. we paid rs 400 more apart from the voucher and left the place disappointed.

located in the heart of the city, this place is very convenient. since we weren't that hungry, orderedlimited. french fries were good. the rest was just mediocre. their godinho special japanese rice wasn't that great. lacked the wow factor. beef steak with mushroom sauce was okayish. the veggie sides and french fried were good of that dish. but the beef meat was such a downer, chewy and not so well done. ambience is the only saving grace. i doubt i'll visit again. price is slightly on the higher side, def not as per what is written on zomato.
