glass onion - wow!. i was driving down main street weaverville today and noticed the glass onion restaurant for the first time. since it was my sweetie's birthday, i called and asked about their menu, and then decided to take him out for his birthday dinner. i'm happy to report that the food was excellent, the service was stellar, and the wine list was perfect. he had a grilled salmon with fresh spring pea risotto. before tonight, this fellow absolutely hated peas, but the plate was clean at the end of the meal! my dish included fresh local mushrooms and was cooked to perfection with some truly imaginative ingredients. i've seen on another review that someone was complaining about the prices. i'd like to go on the record to say that i thought their prices were fair, for the high quality food served. if you want locally sourced ingredients cooked to perfection by chefs who make dishes that rival the best dc restaurants (i moved here in 1995 from dc), give glass onion a try. i hope you like it as much as we did.

loved the onion!. we recently had our first experience at the glass onion and all four of us loved it. the food was great (particularly the trout special), the folks friendly with good service, and reasonably priced bottles of wine. we are thrilled to have this nice "date night" restaurant in weaverville!! what a great addition to our little town. and worth the drive for any of you further away.

always a great meal!. we visit asheville 4-5 times per year and the glass onion is always in our restaurant rotation on our visits - it's a short drive and well worth the trip! we went for lunch this visit and had great service and delicious meals. it was a colder, rainy day so the white bean and pancetta soup hit the spot to start, tomato based but hearty. i had the ricotta gnocchi with fresh tomatoes, basil and garlic. a seemingly simple dish but unlike any gnocchi i've had - light as air and the flavors were impeccable. my husband had the wild mushroom ravioli, obviously handmade like the gnocchi.. don't miss th splace on your next visit!

keep on going... our two experiences at the glass onion were disappointing. greasy rolls, good but tiny portion of lasagne, nothing to bring esthetic play to the table. just an overpriced, pretentious average restaurant and there are so very many other friendlier, better places to go to enjoy a meal, both in weaverville, in woodfin and certainly down the road in asheville.

consistently inviting. we have been to the glass onion four times now and like it more each time.

the food has always been fresh, with appropriately sized portions, and interestingly savory. i look forward to the unique and creative daily specials.

the weight staff and management are quite friendly and knowledgeable. the ambiance is inviting and not nearly as loud as many of the asheville area restaurants. prices are appropriate for the quality of the food.

we do not drink, so i cannot comment on their wine selection.

ed and natalie hannibal, chef / owners of glass onion in weaverville, north carolina, are relatively new to the area.  opening their ‘global italian’ restaurant in early 2012, they have become a topic of conversation in the local foodie arenas.  creative, eye-catching, mouthwatering fare is the norm establishing another excuse to go into downtown weaverville.  after they quit their jobs in the hampton’s, both were head chefs at a couple of the most well respected venues there, they chose weaverville as their destination to open up a restaurant of their own.  selected after a country wide search to find “the friendliest and most promising site”, weaverville became home for the hannibals who consider this their dream come true. using local products from farmers in the area and insisting on organic and sustainable ingredients, the dishes from the menu taste fresh and full of flavor.  the food presentations have your eye in mind as well as your taste buds.

great neighborhood gem!. so lucky to have the glass onion in our backyard! recently tried the delicious harvest salad with warm goat cheese, house-made papardelle with rabbit, and ohhhh... the truffle fries! staff is friendly, knowledgable and genuinely happy to be there. the dishes we have had the two times we have been there, have been spot on. we lived in italy for 5 years, and the glass onion's house-made papardelle with ragu of rabbit rivals the italians' local versions; and the whole seabass, perfectly cooked, is just plain hard to find on many current menus. prices and portions are very reasonable and the wine list is good. too busy eating to take food pics this visit... next time!

always a great meal at the glass onion. this restaurant has become a regular in our rotation when visiting asheville (on par with curate, chestnut). service is friendly and spot on. the angel hair pasta with mussels, spicy sausage and fresh tomatoes was divine. the mushroom farro soup was hearty and perfect on a cold day. price point is great too!

great meal, beautiful space, reasonably priced. we had dinner at the glass onion on thursday night and it was superb. the space is intimate and comfortable, the staff was friendly and knowledgeable and the food was spectacular. we started off with a bottle of erath pinot gris and the crispy artichoke starter and the arugula salad with peaches, duck and truffled pecorino. the green goddess dressing on the artichoke was delicious and the pairing of the peaches and duck was amazing. for one entree we chose house made fettuccine with wild mushroom ragout - sounds like it would be heavy but the home made fettuccine was light and delicate, cooked to perfection and the mushrooms were the perfect complement. since i had duck on my salad i chose the vegan entree of braised "filet" of celeriac over beets, pears and green beans. the celeriac was braised to perfection and the combination was delicious and satisfying. the total bill for a bottle of wine, 2 starters and 2 entrees was $77 (it would have been under $50 without wine). this is extremely reasonable and given the quality of the ingredients this is sure to be weaverville's best new find!
