not bad.... this was the firstplacewe ate upon arriving to anchorage. we arrived around 3:30, so we were able to be seated right away. our server, josh, was incredibly nice, especially in offering feedback about other places to eat in town, though it did take about 10 minutes for his to get to our table. we appreciated that he was very forthcoming when he told us not to get the special, because it wasn't as good as it could be. atmosphere was pleasant, and the restaurant was decorated nicely for the holidays - i can see how it would leave become very loud had we arrived later.
we ordered the beer flight, 2 appetizers and soup. flight came with their blonde, amber, ipa, hefeweizen and oatmeal stout. i like ambers and the hubs likes stouts, but the blonde was the clear favorite. the smoked salmon dip was very good and flavorful. we were both disappointed in the simply the best calamari - it was over breaded and chewy. per josh, it's the best in town (so we're hesitant to order it anywhere else, based on the comments from our self-proclaimed calamari snob server.) the star of the whole evening, hands-down, was the hearty alaska seafood chowder. it was savory, well-seasoned, with substantial chunks of seafood and veggies. hubs ordered the seared ahi tuna, which was well-cooked and flavorful, though he wasn't a fan of the kimchee or soy mustard. i ordered the herb crusted halibut, which contained pesto just under the breading. it was well cooked, but just wasn't flavorful enough for my liking.
in the end, the only things we would reorder would be the salmon dip, the seafood chowder and the blonde ale. these were enough to give it a thumbs up.
