gervais n vine is my #1 choice for a nice evening out in columbia. providing an excellent choice of wines! the wait staff is well educated on their wines & offers very good suggestions based upon my preferences. a must visit if you're in columbia!!!

had made reservations through open table for my family and i (6 total people) the night before my usc graduation, thursday, may 7, 2015. when we showed up it was packed with people standing everywhere. a hostess didn't come up to the front for the first 10 minutes. when the hostess finally did arrive she let us know that they did not have a table for us as they had miscalculated when walk in diners would be finished. there was also a group in front of us with the same problem. although we were slightly upset we still wanted to eat here so we gave the hostess a cell phone number and she said she would call us when our table was ready. we went next door for a drink and waited there for two hours before giving up and going to hampton street vineyard. we noticed when we left that tables were open and the hostess had never called us back. this was the worst service i have ever experienced at a restaurant in columbia.

wednesday night music makes the food taste better, if that's even possible. cheese plate with wine was just the right amount. great service!

excellent food but very rushed service in a half empty restaurant. ate here this evening and the food was very good but felt very rushed. our food came out five minutes after our wine was served, whole evening felt rushed. was our 4th time visiting so we were not first timers

the positive reviews on this website and others are a frank embarrassment to columbia, sc's restaurants. if people who eat here are doing so because of the favorable reviews local give to this pit, then no doubt columbia will be viewed as a wasteland for any kind of dining. of our 4 people, two got sick. when i asked the waitress where they got their cold smoked salmon, she had no idea. ordered it anyway, and it was fishy and disgusting. the pizza used a par-boiled obviously premade crust from some low-end supplier. the shrimp in the dish we got with that were not cleaned (i.e. digestive tube intact). service was spotty at best. the 'spread' plate was of the greasiest cheese mash imaginable. overall we were embarrassed to have exposed our friends from chicago to this hole, and we will never return and never recommend it to anyone we care about.

nichole and i were in columbia, sc recently, checking out the city-wide culinary scene with andrea mensink and dayna cantelmi, of the midlands authority for conventions, sports & tourism . if you haven’t been in a while, you’ll be surprised at the number and quality of restaurants, bakeries, breweries, and wine bars. quite a few had opened since my last visit, and there are more in the works. a change in south carolina law, the “pint bill” giving microbreweries the ability to serve up to 48ozs to patrons on site, has led to a craft beer boom in columbia and across the state. joining hunter-gatherer brewery and ale house , three new breweries have opened in columbia since the law passed, conquest brewing company , river rat brewery , and swamp cabbage brewing company . and – more are in the works. after two days of sampling and sipping at some of columbia’s best, we were more excited than ever about the september 15-17, 2015  columbia small plate crawl . the food and drinks were amazing

the waiter had no idea what was safe on the menu. when i asked him if the chef knows he said usually the chef tells him the person should know what they can and cannot eat. never heard that before. the cheese plate i ordered never came, and they asked us to leave after an hour because they had someone with a reservation. not a good place if you need gluten free!!

fantastic wine list. g&v is a great date spot...you can taste, sip, and chat all night. the food is above average. love love love the eggplant fries with honey yogurt sauce. the lamb chops, scallops, and costa brava are all delicious. the duck is just ok. the flavor is there, but the skin could be crispier and ideally the fat would be rendered down a bit more. if i had to point out a flaw it would be the service. its a little slow and the staff in general could be more enthusiastic about being there to serve guests. i'll always go back just because i like the vibe.

nice atmosphere. staff very friendly. brussel sprouts good. spicy shrimp dish good. pizza very average. not a spanish tapas but worth the trip.

it pains me to watch the steady decline in quality of food, service and pretty much the whole vibe of g&v since the ownership change a couple of years ago. stopped in for a night cap recently. very few folks inside. no hostess to greet us so we seated ourselves. wait staff and cooks glared at us like they wished we'd leave. a server finally brought us menus and then drinks, but slapped a bill on our table after one "you guys ok?" hint hint. it was 9:30 but apparently staff was ready to go home. sorry g&v. no mas. i knew you when...

great tapas. awesome tapas menu, great wine list and always a live performer or wine tasting!

i'm a repeat customer. delicious food, great beer and wine list, excellent waitstaff.

fantastic for a date!. my husband and i have started becoming frequent customers of g&v. we enjoy trying new foods, and this is a great place to sample a lot of little dishes at once. known for having tapas and wine, g&v also has great service and a relaxing atmosphere. we highly recommend the sangria, and get it in a pitcher if you plan on drinking more than one glass! the goat cheese is amazing, as well as the petit filet mignon and the herb grilled lamb chops.

good food horrible managment. me and my husband came to gervais & vine recently, the food and sevice was great but the manager on shift seemed to be intoxicated.

food decent, service not. last time my wife and i went here i brought along a couple of guests.

the menu doesn't really change much, i've been there three times over the last year and the food is always ok.

they've got a good wine selection.

that being said, the service the last go around was really atrocious. not only was there a long wait, but it seemed apparent that we weren't appreciated as customers. i actually caught a frown from a "helping" waitress when our meal arrived over what appeared to be a hearty laugh from our guests in conversation.

while the food is decent, it's not good enough to overcome the poor service in my opinion. obviously they have enough business(for now), so i'm guessing they don't feel any particular need to make their customers feel welcome as a result. in the long term however, the stale menu and unfriendly service is eventually going to bite them.
