great sushi, terrible service.. first, and most important, the food is really good. sushi is fresh, the menu is creative, and there are options to satisfy everyone from someone who only wants sashimi to someone who doesn'teatfish at all.

the service is slooooooow though. they are friendly, but plan to be there for 2 hours for a group of 4, and don't expect the food to arrive in anything like a sensible order.

absolutely worth a visit as the sushi is high quality and delicious. it is a bit more expensive, and not a place to go if you aren't feeling patient.

worst restaurant i've ever been to. quality of the sushi is so poor. all the flavours are not complimentary. just a lot of mayo and salt. sashimi also very poor. just chopped up in big pieces, and poor quality. they use the cheapest fish parts. worst sushi ever. much cheaper quality than all you caneatsushis where you pay much less money for. all the rolls we had were horrible. every single one of them. not owned by japanese people. the wait was also 1.5 hours - just to get sashimi and a few rolls. really bad experience. the servers never apologized for the delay. do not use a groupon here because they will rip you off. you can only count the groupon for entrees, which is only a few things on the menu. not worth it at all. do not go here. i never write reviews, but i had to, because this place is so bad. it needs to disappear from ottawa.

genji is a very small place on lisgar street, just off elgin, and it is not a place i would have walked past or otherwise noticed had i not come across it while searching the internet for places toeatnear the hotel where i was staying. i tried it out for supper one evening and, though my meal wasn’t great, it was interesting enough to make me glad i went…

i was looking for a place toeatat late sunday night. had a bowl of udon. it was incredibly small. taste wise it was okay which is the saving grace in all of this. $15 for the serving size seemed like a rip though.

boring. i really excited to finallyeathere. what a complete disappointment. the sushi was so boring, and very average. we had 3 different house specials that were below average tasting.
i'm going to assume anyone giving this place a good rating hasn't eaten at any quality sushi places.

taste - 2.5/5
presentation- 2/5
dirty carpet stains near the bathroom- 5/5

try orchid sushi on laurier to be blown away...

bad service and overpriced. went there for a friend birthday because she wanted to try it out. i looked at the menu online before going and i knew that it was a fairly "high-end" restaurant based on the prices. when i walked in, i noticed that the decor was very plain and definitely did not fit the price tag on the menu. i ordered a spider roll and a brown dragon roll, which costs a total of $32+tax. when my food came, one roll had 6 piece and the other had 7, whereas other places would have 8 pieces for those specialty rolls, and they were small. the sushi did not taste anything special and i was very disappointed with it overall. then we waited a good 15min to get our bills. so i spent about $40 and i was still pretty hungry after.
bottom line: if you want to go to a higher end sushi place, go to c'est japon à suisha (shisha garden), it is by far much better and although the rolls may seem to be a few dollars more expensive, you get much more bang for your buck and the taste is much better. ieata lot of sushi, and i would've preferred the spider roll at a all you caneatplace than genji.

not sensitive to allergies. upon ordering, i let them know i have a shellfish allergy and they didn't seem to take it seriously or care at all.

45 minutes later, we still didn't have our food and ended up having to get our food to go. i had an allergic reaction to the vegetarian sushi i ate, due to cross contamination.

needless to say, i will nevereathere again.

good food done veeeeery slowly. a friend from work introduced me to genji this week. although i don'teatfish or seafood, she assured me there would be something on the lunch menu for me. i decided on the chicken teriyaki, which came with soup and salad. she got sushi (which makes up the majority of the menu).

and then we waited. and waited. and 45 minutes later...the soup and salad came, although we had asked that it all be served together to shorten the wait. and then - finally - the main came.

it was very good, although modestly portioned. it came with sticky rice, which was good but sometimes hard to navigate with the chopsticks once introduced to the teriyaki sauce.

everyone's plate was an absolute work of art. very beautiful. everyone around me enjoyed their lunch. the price was reasonable. but we ended up rather late for our meeting.

so do go for the food, but make sure you are prepared to wait for it.

sushi isn't just raw fish. last weekend, we went for sushi for my sisters birthday! i heart sushi. it's so fresh, so light and soooo delicious!
anyway, the restaurant is called genji. it's located downtown, just off of elgin street.

our experience.... was okay. the food was good and fresh. i thought it was quite pricy for what you got though. what also made are experience a bit skewed was that we waited almost 2 hours for our food. i don't know if this is normal, so i wouldn't completely base it on my comments. i don't think the waitress realized that we had been waiting for so long. we were a table of 6, and the resto was quite busy.

i just kept myself busy with my camera! here is the picture of their menu, which was very pretti.

so, we started with a complementary appetizer, cucumber marinated in fish sauce and hoisin.

finally, the sushi came! my usual favorite the dragon roll.
next up, the platter that my husband and i shared... i know, weeatallot. there is some unagi (mmm...eel) rolls, dynamite roll, salmon sashimi, some mango tango thing (not that great)...

and of course, my routine green tea ice cream! this was delicious! best part of the dinner ;p
