great sushi, terrible service.. first, and most important, the food is really good. sushi is fresh, the menu is creative, and there are options to satisfy everyone from someone who only wants sashimi to someone who doesn't eat fish at all.

the service is slooooooow though. they are friendly, but plan to be there for 2 hours for a group of 4, and don't expect the food to arrive in anything like a sensible order.

absolutely worth a visit as the sushi is high quality and delicious. it is a bit more expensive, and not a place to go if you aren't feeling patient.

went here for sushi for our anniversary. the food was a bit pricey then what i'm used to. the rolls were huge and didn't enjoy them as much as i usually would back home. but did like that they offered a free app. i'd probably try this place again just get different sushi

came here and just got takeout. i ordered the "stampede roll", and the "waving unagi". while i was figuring out what to get, they came and gave me some green tea and came by to refill while i was waiting, which was very nice, so even with just takeout, i felt the service was very attentive.

the sushi was great. well balanced flavours and textures. the quality was also top notch. most of my experience with sushi is ayce places, and this is miles ahead of anything you'd find at a place like that, but for the cost, it should be. overall, i'd highly recommend it if you're looking for good sushi, and don't mind spending a bit more for it.

i've been here many times and ordered online with friends.price to quality ratio is on the high end. however they are a solid, consistent choice for fresh sushi and higher end presentation.it's much better to go in person. we've ordered online many times and that's when you really see where the price difference isn't justified.

great place!
i was here for a birthday with a party of 8 and they were very accommodating!
it took us a while to settle and order but the staff was very patient with us.
many of us had either lactose or gluten allergies and the staff was able to recommend plenty of options.
i ordered the seafood udon for my main and was quite pleased with the portion i received. the broth was flavourful with a nice umami taste and the mixed seafood was briefly cooked to ensure optimum texture.
the wait for the food was perhaps a bit on the long side but we were a big group.

i love this place. the sushi is delicious and fresh tasting. this is the place for quality sushi, not quantity, so i recommend it to my girlfriends for after work. very relaxed atmosphere...service is good but a bit slow. love the sweet potato maki!

worst restaurant i've ever been to. quality of the sushi is so poor. all the flavours are not complimentary. just a lot of mayo and salt. sashimi also very poor. just chopped up in big pieces, and poor quality. they use the cheapest fish parts. worst sushi ever. much cheaper quality than all you can eat sushis where you pay much less money for. all the rolls we had were horrible. every single one of them. not owned by japanese people. the wait was also 1.5 hours - just to get sashimi and a few rolls. really bad experience. the servers never apologized for the delay. do not use a groupon here because they will rip you off. you can only count the groupon for entrees, which is only a few things on the menu. not worth it at all. do not go here. i never write reviews, but i had to, because this place is so bad. it needs to disappear from ottawa.

genji is a very small place on lisgar street, just off elgin, and it is not a place i would have walked past or otherwise noticed had i not come across it while searching the internet for places to eat near the hotel where i was staying. i tried it out for supper one evening and, though my meal wasn’t great, it was interesting enough to make me glad i went…

i was looking for a place to eat at late sunday night. had a bowl of udon. it was incredibly small. taste wise it was okay which is the saving grace in all of this. $15 for the serving size seemed like a rip though.

a complete disappointment. very disappointed. "boring" is precisely the description for this restaurant; from the plating to the decor including the service, everything is just ordinary. although my wife and i find there isn't a sushi place in ottawa with a wow factor, my advice to you is not to waste your money going there. perhaps there are other places worst than this one,but as far as i am concerned, this place is a 4 out of 10 for overall rating.

boring. i really excited to finally eat here. what a complete disappointment. the sushi was so boring, and very average. we had 3 different house specials that were below average tasting.
i'm going to assume anyone giving this place a good rating hasn't eaten at any quality sushi places.

taste - 2.5/5
presentation- 2/5
dirty carpet stains near the bathroom- 5/5

try orchid sushi on laurier to be blown away...

fresh sushi - but patience required. i tried this place with two of my friends for dinner on a friday night. the restaurant was not extremely busy (a bit less than half the tables were occupied). i have to say that the sushi was very fresh and well presented, but i was really turned off by the amount of time it took to get our food. we ordered the kaede sushi moriawase (12 pcs tuna, salmon, tai, hirame & california roll; comes with a soup and a salad), the butterfish dragon boat maki (8 pcs) and the twice the spices specialty maki (8 pcs). it took between 1-1.5 hour to get our sushis - the waitress felt so bad for the wait she gave us a free soup and salad. the soup was ok, but the salad was pretty shabby (although the dressing was nice). overall, we really enjoyed the sushi, but the wait was absolutely unreasonable and this place is quite pricey.

absolutely the best sushi in ottawa. great sushi, friendly staff. if you're not a sushi fan, the beef teriyaki is amazing.
