finally made it to grb!.foodwas delish, loved the funky decor and the staff was friendly. my only minor critique, we weren't informed refills are not free. my son's oj cost more than my entire meal.
i love breakfast and will definitely return.

really great food, and the owner and staff are super nice! would definitely recommend this place to anyone that i know that is in the area. ordered the stockyard plate and an extra side of bacon, and it was more than enoughfoodfor one person and very delicious!

thefoodwas very appealing, creative and tasty. the decor was funky and different. loved that! the hostess was very rude and pretty much ignored us and didn't even do a good job of looking " busy". however our service was nice. my suggestion do away with the blonde with the attitude who isn't the best first impression of ur restaurant.

...we went out to breakfast on saturday to genessee royal bistro. it's in an old gas station and thefoodwas really good. i had the bread pudding and matt and my mom had the cream top buttermilk biscuit with chicken. i will say i think the bread pudding's portion size was a little small, but all thefoodwas delicious. the only other downside was that they don't have a high chair (?!) i know who doesn't have a high chair, but thankfully they have outside seating...

bit dry and over priced. nice ambiance and staff.. this was the type of place i really wanted to like - it's in a part of town that you couldn't describe as neither hip nor run down. it's in an old gas station. the staff is nice and the decor is nice and vintage-chic.

but - we won't be back. quite simply: we paid $8 for a relatively small belgian waffle that was dry, dry, dry and it didn't have any sides or flair. it was pretty much worse than an eggo. i would have rather had an eggo in the comfort of my own home.

my fiance's meal was a bit better - he liked it well enough. but the menu is small and so once you start to knock things off as "bad" you're not left with much.

there are better breakfast choices in kc if you're looking for goodfood.

won't be back. goodfood& service, but they don't take american express.

great lunch. found this place on our way out the door for lunch and thought we'd take a shot. the atmosphere is great, and thefoodis better. enjoyed our lunch immensely!

i keep coming back. just wanted to add a note to my previous reviews. they have a few nice new menu additions. in the winter they occasionally offered cornmeal waffles, and they've made it to the standard summer menu now, thankfully, because they're excellent. never dry, perfect degree of doneness, and the fresh fruit toppings are great, too. and there's a little, well i think it may be creme fraiche, i'll have to ask, but it's great. the saturday-only strata offering is excellent as well, we're just usually there on fridays.

we've recommended to others who've also liked it very much. keep up the good work!

can't go wrong at grb. another excellent todd schulte venture. gennesse royale quickly became my favorite breakfast place after a couple of visits. by now i've had 5 breakfasts there. coffee is great, which is to me the foundation of breakfast, but then thefoodis always excellent. can't go wrong with the egg and cheese sandwich, which is really well sized and a great value on top of being delicious. i really like it on the wolfterman's english muffin. farmer's plate is great because the potatoes are great and i guess i take the outstanding bacon for granted by now. also the soft boiled egg is great (don't get philip's soft egg, you're better off a la carte w. egg plus meat plus toast because toast comes w. egg).

but today was my first lunch here and it was also great. my wife had the tuna (with a little hard boiled egg) special sandwich. loved the brussels sprouts as a side. me, i had the burger and it was absolutely great. so flavorful (also on a wolfterman's english muffin), and i have no idea how it can be so juicy but not underdone at all, perfectly done in fact. just wish there was a side like a small salad or potatoes or something to complement it (you do get a little greens and brussels sprouts). it was a little chilly outside (low 30s) and we sat right next to the garage door but it must be well insulated, i wasn't cold. and sometimes it does get a little cold there first thing in the morning when they open. not a large place so get there early if you're there for saturday breakfast. me, i go fridays and it's really nice. plus they have wifi. i will certainly keep coming back and it's nice that they recognize us. i couldn't recommend it more highly.

a delicious brunch. i went to genessee royal bistro for brunch with some friends and immediately fell in love with the place. the restaurant owners are superb and create a very enjoyable atmosphere. thefoodlooked amazing and was scrumptious. i will definitely be becoming as regular customer.

very good breakfast.. went there for the first time this saturday. service was good,fooddelicious. i had the farmers plate and my husband had the strata. both were very good. people around us were talking about how good the pancakes were. we will have to try them next time. going back is a must and we will be sure and tell our friends.

goodfoodat a good price will never get old. first off, the space is very warm and inviting. easy to get settled in here before you even have a menu. had the salty lemonade, which was very fresh and fitting. ordered the biscuit and fried chicken and was enthralled with everything about it. the texture of the biscuit with the crispy chicken, the smooth gravy and the over-easy egg made each and every bite incredible. the simple wild green salad added a nice crisp break to the very rich "sandwich". i will be very excited to return based on how the first impression was left with me.

good but not quite happy gillis good. this is happy gillis' sister restaurant done with a somewhat different vision. larger, maybe somewhat more upscale but just as happy and service oriented. the atmosphere is perfect, eclectic, warm and inviting with plenty of windows-bet it will be a fun social gathering spot in the summer. the service was spot on-never a miss on the coffee refill (coffee buy the way was oh so yummy). now for the not so good part. todd is not in the kitchen but out in the front making sure that people are happy. thefoodi recieved just wasn't up to happy gillis standards. i had the corned beef hash at $9.00. it came with one overcooked fried egg and a schmear of stone ground mustard. granted, i could have sent it back but i chose not to. it wasn't any where near the yumminess as the croque monsieur i had one happy sunday at happy gillis. i do think my friend found her meal tasty. hopefully they will find afoodgroove and my meal was an isolated incident. in the mean time-see about a new cook or get todd in there!
