gemmayze st has fantastic ambience in the atrium of the restored st kevin's arcade with a casual relaxed atmosphere. a family affair, the restaurant had only been open 4 days when we visited. we opted for the 'feed me' menu at $50 per head. the food was entirely fantastic and moorish, the only issue being the pita breads served with our entrees being cold from the fridge (though slightly warm in places). the dips, labneh, cauliflower and home pickled olives were all prepared beautifully with lovely depth of flavour. for our mains we were served slow cooked lamb and a hapuku dish which were stunning. desert was intriguing with spices and soft cheese melding with sweet flavours.
a few teething issues from this new establishment with the service being a little slow at rush hour - our cocktails took an age to arrive and we struggled to taste any alcohol in them. however, i'm totally willing to put this down as some hiccups from what promises to be a favourite establishment in such a fantastic location.
