location:
located a little far away from the town. you have to keep driving on past the cement factory instead of turning left for jabel hafeet. after another 10 or so km you reach makani mall where this is. you need to go to the food court and this is just outside it after the baby shop
ambience:
great ambience, very clean, nice wood work , private cabins to suit local preferences are available in plenty.
food:
we had tandoori prawns, tandoori chicken, veg samosas, lamb chops, dum biryani , garlic naans and butter chicken
the food is average. the naans are not served with garlic butter, but are encrusted with roasted shredded garlic, not to my taste
the prawns and tandoor chicken looked ok, but haven’t had the time for the marinade to penetrate and just didn’t taste right , like raw chilly in it? b minus to c
the chops were highly recommended, but were just average. the butter chicken was ditto, so-so. no flavor , no where near the way my wife makes it or the one we had in coriander last week c
the dum biryani had tender meat and was presented well, but just didn’t taste all that great. not enough gravy, i think . again ...average
the fruit salad looked great, but had the common problem of the fruits diced too large, not very palatable. i always wonder why something so simple is so difficult to come across done properly!
milkshakes, too sweet, but pretty good, especially chocolate. vanilla: way too much sugar and mango lassi didn’t have the tang of lassi: again, average, not bad, not exceptional
the kesar falooda was also a b minus...
service :
service was good, but , just like the food, not exceptional and with a smile like at coriander. the manager , however, takes a interest , and is to be commended. his staff , however, are lackluster in comparison
one expects a good cuisine recommendation especially when in for the first time, a smile and a degree of interest. like the food, theserviceis just about acceptable, but it isn’t great.
the meal ends with no finger bowl. this is an indian restaurant, one eats with ones fingers, you expect a small brass finger bowl filled with warm water and a slice of lime. it’s kinda standard.
nope, no bowl, no wash basin. the waiter unapologetically told me we’d have to go to the washroom outside the restaurant in the food court. he then offered plus wet wipes. adequate, but not just there.
so, in short, averageservice, acceptable , but uninspired food, good ambience, but nothing exceptional.
all in all not worth a repeat visit, imo...
