garufa argentinean restaurant

nice surprise. we had a great time, we did not have a reservation but we decided to eat at the bar. our server jessica was friendly and really outgoing, she recommended the empanadas to start and we decided to share a lomo (tenderloin) and it was cooked to perfection. i can't imagine going somewhere else.

garfua. the food was good but the new york steak was tough. the salmon was cooked to perfection and i really enjoyed the salad. the service was so-so and after 4 tries the wait staff finally got the bill correct. so check your bill before throwing out your credit card.

piece of argentina in el paso. after my friend told me that there was an argentinian restaurant now in el paso my husband and i had to go immediately. i asked around to see about eating there, went as far as to calling the restaurant directly. the restaurant has a sister restaurant in juarez; the owners are not from argentina and neither is their chef.
the restaurant itself was beautiful and the service was great. one look at the menu and i saw that they had empanadas and even chimichurri- when ordering the waiter was going on about how their chimichurri is delicious and it has 37 ingredients.... well...they put in 30 more ingredients than what they needed.
i would say that the food is a fusion between mexican and argentinian food... but in no way is it authentic as they claim.. the only thing authentic about the food at garufa was the name of some of the foods.
if you want something different other than mexican food, then go to garufa, but do not think it is authentic argentinian food. we were very disappointed for such an overpriced meal.

wow, that was good.... since garufa's served in the rotary's celebrity chef fundraiser in october, i've wanted to get in to try a full meal. my chance came last weekend and i am so glad that i took it.

we arrived for our 7 pm reservation to our table ready for 5. we had bread with 3 toppings, a red chili (spicy, but not very tasty), a olive oil with parsley and other spices (nice treat), and my favorite, a white bean topping that i could not resist.

we ordered at our table:
asparagus wrapped in prosciutto ($10 for the large-delicious and everyone got a good portion)
an apple salad that was quite tasty
a bowl of lentel soup that was a good as i've ever tasted
a plate of grilled vegitables, fixed in a smokey taste (very nice)

we all wanted to try some different main dishes, so our main courses were passed around just as the a-la-cart sides were. we had a 14 oz tenderloint ($39) that was great, though slightly overcooked for my taste (not as rare as i'd asked) and perhaps undercooked for everyone else. we had an order of short ribs ($16) that were cooked a little too much, but still pretty good. our 28 oz butterflied ribeye was a winner that drew an ooo and an ahhh when it was unfolded to cover most of the plate. it seemed to be cooked just as ordered and was quite delicious.

the delivered various drinks from a well equiped bar and the wine list seemed sufficient, though i am not a good judge of wines.

the service was exceptional, save for the one delayed side of veggies that arrived almost as we were finished eating.

there were no surprises on the bill. we ate good and paid the price to do so, but it was worth every penny.

all in all, i was very happy with the experience and may be going back this weekend. no complaints were voiced by anyone else in our party either.

wonderful restaurant. my husband and i enjoyed our delicious dinner at this wonderful westside restaurant. my husband ordered a 14 oz. ribeye which , according to him was cooked to perfection. i had the filet mignon beautifully served with crispy onion strips served on a bed of mashed potatoes in a red wine sauce. delicious! we had the turnover appetizer (which was tasty)as well as the greek salad. the salad was my only complaint. it was very plain and was missing salad dressing. it tasted as if vinegar was the only dressing the put on it. the service was fantastic! the manager--sam checked on our table several times to see if we were enjoying our meal and dining experience. i can't wait to go back!

horrible horrible horrible how do i count the horribles. i decided to give garufa's another try as my first experience was just ok. so this time i came in and ordered the ribeye medium rare. came out medium to midwell. i guess the server didnt think i was a good tipper because he didnt give a crap about anything our table needed. there is no way that this restaurant is selling anything of quality except the empanadas are pretty good. i couldnt beleive how tough and over cooked my steak was. i let the server know about the steak and he told me that it was cooked midrare. didnt even offer to fix the situation after i had let him know it was overcooked. the best thing this restaurant has going for themselves is the decor. if i had known the service was going to be bad and my steak overcooked i would have stayed home and ate ramen noodles. next time mabe ill just come in for a beer at the bar, but to whoever thinks this place is good, seriously prolly has never had a decent dish in their life. should have listened to my instincts and had gone to stateline for a steak or next door at mi piaci. least i know i would be paying for quality and not some some crap i wouldnt even make burritos out of. absolutly the worst. hopefully the next restaurant from mexico will include a chef and not the head one from mcdonalds.

amazing, the best in town. i cannot believe the bad reviews i have eaten there 5 times and it is amazing. the ribeye is the best in town, great wines. great salads! the other reviews are insane give this place a shot and get a weekend reservation early the place is getting known for its good food.

best steak in el paso. ordered the 7oz tenderloin - was almost perfect except that my medium rare was closer to medium well. however, the flavor was excellent, and i now know to order it a step rarer in the future (this seems to be a common issue at garufa judging by others' comments). service was attentive but not overbearing. bread was fresh, empanadas were a hit and wine selection was good.

disappointed. i recently went with 2 friends for lunch and i cannot believe how disappointed i was. i ordered a churrasco from the dinner menu because none was being offered from the lunch menu. i was not able to eat half of the meat because it was so tough. the service was also drastically in need of training. lots of glits and pretty girls when you come in, but everything else a big disappointment aftewr that. if this place says that it is an argentine place, they need to learn how to be one.

culture. reading the reviews - they are funny! tortillas at an argentinian restaurant, a mistake of course - but without them the restaurant would just go under. el paso had a brazilian churrasqueria once - and the joke is that it is now an ihop - what an embarrassment! so in a city so locking in sophistication - is either argentinian with jalape~os or bankruptcy. do they serve mate?

great food. the place looks great, the food was excellent and the service very good. i would recommend the place.

great place. went there this saturday night and the place was packed. we waited there for a while but it was all worth it. the empanadas where delicious, the steaks where phenomenal and the desserts where perfect. the place is very very nice and the service is perfect. el paso needed a place like this.

dosn't like it. the service was ok but not what i expected for the type of restaurant and the prices they have. the place is really well decorated but it is the only good thing the waiters don't knew anything about wines. and the pastas were ok but not great.
