germantown cafe - dinner. we were visiting from georgia. we had dinner sunday at 5pm and it was wonderful. we started out with some drinks; lemon drop, washington state martini, and a pomegranate martini. yum.
the main courses were varied, from plum potk, shrimp pasta, new orleans shrimp, and pan seared trout. everything was very good and our waiter was very good too. a goodtimefor all!

terrible customer service.the banana foster pancakes are made with rum...although the menu doesn't state such.i spoke to the co-owner about the fact that i was unaware that the banana foster pancakes were made with rum being that my waiter never mentioned it and it wasn't on the menu. per the menu:banana foster pancakes:'a stack of pancakes covered with sauteed caramelized bananas and walnut in a rich buttery sauce, topped with whipped cream. you’ll say ‘wow’!' do you see rum any where in the description? when i told the co-owner about it, she never once apologized for her company's negligence. she made it seem like it was up to me to know that it had rum in it. she told me that 'in new orleans, banana fosters are made with rum.' she even went on to say that she's been at the restaurant location for 6 years, my waiter should've explained it to me that it had rum in it, how the rum was supposed to be 'cooked' out, all the while ignoring the fact that i told her i could taste the rum in it. i told her what if i were pregnant and she got even more defensive. one would think that by the long waittimeto be seated, the long waittimeto get your order taken when you're finally seated, the long waittimeto get some damn breakfast food, she would've displayed better customer service, but no.i was sorely disappointed and i won't be returning and i won't recommend this place to anyone else again.

unique and exceptional. the garden brunch café is unique and exceptional in many ways. this is a place for those who wish to experience what brunch should be - relaxed, unrushed, delicious and all set in a great vibe locale!

it reminds me of a restaurant i frequented on cape cod back in the 70’s-80’s. the cape was a hot bed for summer residents and tourists, i.e., it got crowded and busy. however, off the beaten path was a restaurant in a little grey house that was a favorite of the year-round locals. this unique spot was run by two elderly sisters. above the anteroom door leading to the dining room they hung a sign that read, “if you are in a hurry, you are in the wrong place.”

i think of that sign everytimei sit down with family and friends to eat. a meal should be relaxed, unrushed, delicious and a pleasant experience. that’s why the garden brunch café is my favorite lunch spot on fridays.
cheers,

cute but not a regular spot. this place is family owned and operated, which means your waiter is probably related to the cook, but that's not necessarily a good thing as perhaps her son is not adept at waiting tables. a small omelet with a handful of potatoes and one slice of toast is $12.50. an iced tea is $3. it takes at least 45 min to get a table and then another 30min to get your food; so you will want to eat a snack before embarking on your journey to dine here. everyone is very polite, the space is well designed and clean. the food is obviously very fresh and carefully prepared, but it is not exceptional enough to be worth the cost oftimeand money to acquire it.

no way to treat people, no way to run a business. how terribly tragic and sad. this business is completely and totally on auto-pilot. the obvious operational lapses are second only to the arrogant and indifferent attitude of the business owner, who is clearly (and sadly) in way, way, way over his head. today was my second visit to the garden brunch cafe. my spouse and i took a close friend who told us she'd seen some positive local press on the restaurant, and we were eager for her to have a positive experience. standard operating procedure when you arrive: first, you have to hunt down the host to take your name. we had to walk back into the bar area to find the host, who appeared to be in his mid teens, and holding a clipboard. we inquired about the wait time, and he took our name. "thirty-five minutes," he assured us. if you want a drink while you wait, good luck. not only do they not have a server assigned for this task, you have to wait until the bar area clears to even get to a bartender to order. the garden brunch cafe has a sort of twilight zone-ish pace; waaaaay, waaaay too relaxed for any business in the hospitality category. no one is hustling, no one is overseeing anything. no one is in a hurry or eager to please. it is as though everyone working there is drawing a good salary, and there's no trace of "to-insure-promptness" (tip) working to be found. everything is dysfunctional and slow. if you want to check on the progress of your wait, you have to find the teenager with the clipboard, who always parrots the same answer no matter what the question: "there's just one party (or ticket or drink order, etc.) ahead of you." this place needs a good general manager, and fast. our waittimeended up being 65 minutes (one hour and five minutes). when we inquired about the wait time, yes, you guessed it. "there's just one party ahead of you." when we finally got seated, our server came along. another fresh-faced late teen or young adult with absolutely no clue. we ordered drinks, looked at the menu and all ordered the same dish--tilapia and grits. ten minutes after ordering, the youngster came back by and apologized, telling us they were out of tilapia. we asked if they could substitute salmon, and she said yes, but it would be a one dollar upcharge each. fine, we said. another ten minutes went by, and the owner appeared with the teenager in tow. "we are out of all fish. what else can i get you? (we had to ask to see the menus again). we decided on something, and he left. fifteen more minutes passed, and all we saw during thattimewas one coffee refill. we waited, and waited, and waited. finally, we inquired about what was taking so long, and the reply: "there's just one ticket ahead of you." at that point, i headed for the cash register to pay for our drinks and tell them we were leaving. as i stood at the cash register near the bar, he flatly offered this: "look, the food is about to come out." i replied, "we waited one hour and five minutes to get seated, the service has been dismal, and we've now been here going on an hour and forty five minutes, you're out of what we ordered, and we still haven't seen food. we are leaving, but i'm here to pay for our drinks because we're leaving." the owner snorted, "the food will just have to be thrown out. how about if i pay for your food?" i replied, "it isn't about the food. we've been in church this morning, and we are starving. this isn't about the food at this point, it's about how horrible this experience was, and you need to know that." about that time, some pie-eyed, woozy patron at the bar piped up "it will be worth the wait." i looked at him and said, "it isn't about the wait. it's about the almost two hours we've been here and so far, we've had drinks." with that, the owner turned on his heel and walked away, leaving one of his teenagers to take my six dollars for our drinks. this place is really designed for people who are aggressive enough to get alcohol, and lucky enough to get served plenty of alcohol while they wait. if you're willing to fight to get waited on at the bar, then have enough drinks that you don't mind waiting while the entire place operates in slow motion, you'll love it. but my recommendation would be to avoid it. nashville's a big town, and there are plenty of other places nearby to have brunch. this owner doesn't understand how to run a restaurant. he's an amateur, and everyone who works for him is clearly on that same level.

sunday breakfast. we found this place on the web and decided to try it this past sunday. we like the atmosphere (old house) and looked forward to a nice breakfast. about a 20 min wait which was ok. sat on the front porch reading the local news.
we were seated by the host and were not acknowledged by the waiter or our drink order taken. finally the host came by, got our drinks and took our order, banana foster pancakes for her, the spinach omelet for me. pancakes were tasty, omelet ok. btw, if you expect to order a meat, only choice are turkey products.

the waiter did come by once, told us he would refill our drink. never saw him again till i got the check (requested from the host).

for breakfast, it's a little pricey for what you get, our bill was $31.00 (never had breakfast served with only 1 pc of toast)

i'm always willing to try a place a 2ndtimebecause of poor service, but the food is overpriced for what you get.

nashville needs more good breakfast spots and it looks like the garden brunch café is here to the rescue. the word is out though, so if you plan to brunch on a weekend make a reservation or leave sometimeto wait.
