delicious korean tacos. garbo's grill is a food trailer located on the property of grunts bar on caroline st. i ordered the korean bbq tacos and i was asked if a 30 minute wait would be okay. i said it would be okay and i took my food pager with me over to the porch beer & wine bar across the street where i enjoyed a nice red ale. i came back to garbo's just intimefor my pager to go off but under the 30 minutetimelimit. i took my 2 tacos in a basket into grunts where jenni took care of my beer order. there was a funky 2 piece band playing. a guy singing and playing the bongos while another guy played a guitar with a pick-up. i just enjoyed my fresh wonderfully prepared korean tacos inside the cool vibe of grunts. jenni told me to come back and try the yum yum shrimp tacos and i will be taking her up on her advice. thanks for dinner guys!

i have absolutely no idea what the hype is all about. sorry but i don't get it. this place is not 1 out of however many restaurants there are in key west. it may not even the best street food that you can find on the island but it somehow makes it to the top of the list for reasons that i just cannot fathom.

basically this place is a food truck with a few tables and chairs in a yard. when we went there, we saw 3 people within the "truck" - one taking orders and then two preparing the food. the menu was incredibly simple with only a few items on it. as we do not consume beef, i believe there were only two or three items that we could have ordered from and those were either tacos or burritos. (the same dish could be served as two tacos or as a larger burrito.) that being the case, between my wife and i, we ordered a fish burrito and shrimp taco. oddly enough for a food truck, we were told that there would be a waittimeof at least 30-35 minutes before we got our food.

we decided to wait in a bar adjoining the food truck and ordered a drink each for ourselves. it was after we were done with our drinks and 35 - 40 minutes from thetimewe had ordered that we got our food. all of the wait and the spartan environment would have been worth it if the food had blown our mind but that wasn't the case. in fact, quite far from it. both the burrito and the tacos came in flour tortillas that had not been grilled at all and they tasted exactly like flour tortillas taken out of a packet might taste like. the filling itself was very average and as we had our lunch, we were left scratching our heads as to why this place was as hyped up as it had been. also worth noting is that though the cashier had said that the burritos were just a slightly bigger version of the tacos, they turned out to be a lot bigger and had we known that, we would have ordered two burritos rather than 1 burrito and 1 taco.

other than food, service is something also one pays attention to and there was little service offered given that it's a glorified food truck. what is inexcusable though is that the people at the truck seemed rude. the reason i say this is because when somebody later on in the line asked if it would take him less than 40 minutes to get his food if he ordered in larger quantities (for his friends), the girl behind the counter (and i think one of the owners) replied curtly - "there are just the two of us preparing food and we won't be growing an extra pair of hands if you order more". i suppose the folks realize that with their excellent ratings (entirely undeserved in my opinion) they can afford to be rude and they will still have customers lining up outside of their truck and it is up to you to tell them that's not quite the case.

having my lunch at this place was a good wake-up call for us to not just pay attention to how many stars a place has on yelp or ta but to get a good sense of what we are getting ourselves into. i would definitely suggest that you avoid this place and prove that bad service with mediocre food doesn't quite cut it in key west.

my new favorite place to eat. seriously good food...so seriously good we ate here three times during our stay in key west. the korean beef tacos were out of this world and i would have gone back every day of our stay to eat these had they been open the last weekend of our trip! from the fresh jalapeños and mango to the deliciously spicy sauce, each flavor profile in this dish worked together in glorious harmony to transport me to my own culinary nirvana with every bite.

the staff were out of this world friendly and chatted to is eachtimewe came. out of this world food served up by great people.

we will undoubtedly be back; until then my stomach is growling in anticipation.

my mouth is watering as i am writing this! if you are in key west, you definitely have to try this inexpensive spot. it is very sad that i only discovered this place on my last day or else, i would have tried every single thing on their menu by thetimei left the conch republic.

key west at it's best!. you come to key west for fun & food & wild atmosphere! garbo's has all three in on a cart ! the day we stopped in the menu was mango hot dogs ( to die!) caribbean chicken (divine!) and fish tacos (didn't try, but other people were oohing and aahhing). our server/cook was adorable and upbeat and wearing goofy sunglasses with palm trees attached. we had a great meal and a greattimeand highly recommend garbo's.
