if you like to wait and be ignored this is your place!. i don't mindwaitingfor a good restaurant. but at least greet me. at least acknowledge me. then when i get my coffee make some attempt to keep my cup from sitting empty. the food is good enough, but the service is terrible, over and over, the service is terrible. i've been there many times and given them many chances. i won't be going back.

couldn't tell ya how the food was. afterwaitingat the door for about 10 minuets before being acknowledged, we sat down at our table in the not crowded restaurant. then after another 15min of sitting there with the wait staff walking by we got up and left. they clearly don't have their crap together. it only takes one bad experience for me to not go back to a place.

worth the wait. the aroma that comes from the kitchen/ grill is intoxicating. everything i have ever had there is cooked to perfection. the staff is always attentive with the coffee refills, and pleasant even as they get busy. please don't go to gailey's in a rush. if you want to be seated right away, wake up early and get there as soon as they open or shortly thereafter. otherwise, stay in bed, sleep in and stroll your way in but expect to wait. they aren't equipped for large groups so plan onwaitingor make it an intimate party for two.

why, oh, why. won't the management here staff enough people to make this work? especially on weekends-- what a mess. the food is good but you have to eat breakfast before you go so that you won't get irritably hungrywaitingfor the food. the service staff are nice folk but way too thinly spread. there's some sort of money-saving effort going on here, i suspect, that is really not working out. i just feel sorry for the staff who have to deal with the wrath of the clientele in concrete real terms. there's also something unpredictable going on in the kitchen-- sometimes it's closer to miss than to hit, and it may relate to either what's left in the pantry or who's cooking that morning-- inconsistent quality.

be prepared to wait for breakfast. excellent food, so so ambiance, good prices but you will wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait and wait. they have expanded their space- into awaitingroom! why not make thewaitingroom into an eating room, people wopuld actually be able to eat and not wait? with the amount of people therewaitingto eat, it would justify hiring another cook and getting with it. gailey's is a springfield classic. with the demise of aunt martha's and john q. hammons as breakfast eateries on a sunday, there is a nichewaitingto be filled.

terrible service, average food. i've never before been livid to the point of shaking until my experience at gailey's last weekend. first, the food. i initially tried gailey's because it's just a block away from my home, and ziggy's downtown had closed. i got basically the same thing, eggs/bacon/gravy/hash browns, and it was about average. it was slightly overpriced (something like $7+ for that meal, cheaper for more at ziggy's), but it was nice to get it. this was about 3 saturdays ago. now, about the service. being that i live so close, i wanted to simply bring the food back to my home. both times i've ordered there it's been on a saturday. the first time i called (a few weekends ago), i was told that i could not order over the phone (weekends are too busy), but i could get a to-go order if i came in and ordered,waitinglike everyone else. i said this was fine, and did so. last saturday, hoping to do the same, i waited (next door in the building attached, since they don't let you in the front door) to be helped. no one came to ask me if i wanted to be seated for over 5 minutes. a few people had formed a line behind me. when the hostess approached me, i said all i needed was to make a to-go order. i was promptly told this was impossible. i responded saying that i'm happy to wait, all she would have to do is put my food in a box. i was told it was their policy not to do so, and to blame the cooks. i repeated that i had been in before and done the same thing. that i was willing to wait like everyone else. and that there is no reason not to simply serve me like everyone else, putting the food in a box instead of on a plate. less work for them, no need to seat me. she still refused, and even tried to walk past me to help thosewaitingbehind me. at this point i was very upset, having just walked there to get my significant other and i breakfast, hoping to have a nice morning. i immediately asked to speak to a manager, and was told he was 'not in today'. i asked for a phone number, to which she promptly walked away and found someone, purportedly said manager. while finding him, i was constantly pointed at by her as she spoke to various people. he approached me, asked me what the problem was, and i repeated everything. he said that's fine, i asked for a menu, he walked away while i figured out what i wanted. another few minutes went by and i wasn't checked on, offered a chair, or anything else. i finally walked into the main room (with the cooks and bar), and before i could get a word out, i was greeted with a raised finger telling me to wait. he wasn't on the phone, he wasn't even talking to anybody. a minute or so later, the same person who helped me a few weeks ago went ahead and took my order, and even offered to let me sit at the bar and give me a glass of water while i waited 'about 10 minutes'. 25 minutes later, without my glass of water, i was asked by the same 'manager' to get up and go back to the other room so another customer could sit down. very nearly walking out at that point, i waited, again in the place i started. after 35 minutes in total, i was finally given my food and checked out, obviously without adding a tip. this was probably the absolutely worst customer service experience i have ever dealt with, even after working and purchasing from places like best buy and the like. i will not be purchasing from them again.
