disappointing at best. as we'resushiaficionados, we were told of fuji grills excellence in japanese cuisine from friends. always willing to try new restaurants, we drove from olean to williamsville for my wife's birthday dinner. we were initially seated in the middle of a noisy dining area. when we asked to be moved to an empty, quieter table, we were told that it was "taken" (yet vacant) so we adjourned to thesushibar. we ordered a volcano roll and were disappointed that was flavorless. we then tried our favorite 3 to make an educated comparison to our othersushiexperiences; salmon (sake), tuna (maguro)and eel (unagi). the unagi was as good as any we've had but the sake was not very fresh and the tuna was tough. neither plates were served with ginger or wasabi. i realize wasabi is an american adaptation of a traditional japanese meal but we were, after all, in williamsville, ny. disappointed and not wanting to spend any more money we left. our total, including two large sapporo beers was $43 + tip. as we exited, we noticed the table we were denied was still vacant. we completed our evening at our favoritesushirestaurant, sakura, near the galleria mall and enjoyed a quiet dinner with excellent service &sushias always. so much for trying new places. and, yes, we were both weaned on californiasushiand have hadsushiin places like hawaii as well so i "know my sushi". also, the décor wasn't much to admire either. thesushibar was topped with stained 2x4's in at attempt to create some kind of "awning" effect which just looked cheesy. i've seen better décor in some south buffalo basements.
