chili mac please.. ok so i saw a couple of reviews, then i found a menu. i saw chili mac on the menu. not just chili but bison chili. ok that's different ,so i set out to give it a try for lunch.
that is how this is supposed to work right. i have passed fuel many times but never have stopped. fuel is an old gas station building now a restaurant. not a lot of setting inside but plenty out and in combined. i had to eat inside today it was warm. i like the open kitchen, you get dinner and a show. i get themenuand i see the chili and i see the mac and cheese, but no chili mac. i asked the waitress about that and she said sorry that's the dinner menu. shucks…i had my mind set on that. "how about a bowl of chili and a bowl of mac and cheese and an empty bowl" was her suggestion. now she is thinking. i got my chili mac. each was very good on it one. the mac and cheese was just right not to runny, not to dry. i am guessing a combination of cheese, very creamy. the chili had a good flavor, not to spicy, a little sweet. bison is pretty lean but it was not gamy like you might think.
now combined of the two, was very good. i will have to go back and try some of the sandwiches they have. very interesting.

cute place, stopped for lunch, server was aweful! no greeting, just a demand for drink order then when we did give it fast enough got "oh so your not getting a drink"
then what we wanted was on "dinner"menuand she really doesn't need to work with the public. was leaving and paying for the drinks and as i was transferring my drink to a togo cup brown flakes came out in the liquid. i would not suggest it.

had a pretty good lunch at fuel this past friday. we sat outside. i convinced my mother to try their veggie burger. she loved it. i should've ordered one too. my vegetarian meatloaf sandwich didn't have as much veggie loaf as pictured on their lunchmenuonline. i also didn't care for the homemade sweet chili ketchup, which i had told our very nice server that i didn't want on the sandwich. not her fault. next time i'll make sure to get my money's worth if i order that sandwich again. we ordered a slice of their vegan chocolate and strawberry cheesecake for dessert. it was delicious and extremely rich. fuel definitely has the best homemade veggie burgers in memphis. i've had them before and they are incredible. our server, a very pretty young lady with short red hair, was very nice and attentive. we'll be back.

the best veggie burger in memphis. i haven't been to fuel cafe in a very long time. i really enjoyed my dinner there last night. the place was packed, which didn't surprise me. they were featured on action news 5 wednesday night. i started off with their homemade vegan chili. pretty good. the tomato base was a little overpowering and there weren't as many beans as i would've liked. for my entree, i chose their homemade veggie burger, which was simply amazing. the best in the city. that's not an opinion. it's a fact. anyone want to prove me wrong?? service was excellent. prices are worth it for the healthy delicious food they serve. can't wait to try some new items on their new menu, like vegan banana pudding.

22 great reviews. 1 bad review. you be the judge!!. ignore jared, who left the only bad review of fuel. can't believe he didn't like the food. great homemade food at reasonable prices. you won't find quality like this for less. the great reviews speak for themselves. i just had their homemade veggie burger and it was the best i've ever had!!! i'm a regular. don't be turned off by one bad review. judge for yourself.

delicious. went there for the first time tonight. felt welcomed the second i walked in. the atmosphere is pleasant and homey. the staff are very friendly and attentive. i chose the vegetarian loaf, which is the non-meat version of meat loaf, with mushroom gravy and mashed potatoes, and i am so glad i did. the homemade veg. loaf, made with cheeses, walnuts and oats, was awesome. topped off with homemade mushroom gravy. it was very tasty and filling. i can't wait to try more wonderful entrees @ fuel. excellent healthy homemade food.

dissapointing. after reading the incredible reviews, me and my boyfriend went to check out fuel café last night. the weather was nice so we took a table outside.
most of the reviewers said that the fries with three sauces and ceviche at fuel cafe were amazing, so we took those as an appetizer. the fries were fine, but not close to 'the best we've ever had'. the sauces where everybody was so excited about, were a bit boring to us - the 'red spicy tomato sauce' was just ordinary thai sweet chili saus from a bottle.
the ceviche was a serving of fresh vegetables, but not so much ceviche. since we were already pretty dissapointed by the appetizers, and we were not very impressed by the menu, we decided to ask about the chef's special vegan entree. the waitress told us that "it used to be something with pomodori sauce, but the cook ran out of pomodori sauce and was talking about that he could make something else with 'different vegetables'." we do like surprises, and we do like vegetables - and nothing else on themenureally appealed to us - so we took the vegan entree to share. i will have to say that there were only three tables occupied while we were there, and it was only 7:30pm, so we found it a little strange that the cook already ran out of the 'special' sauce at that point.
when the entree came to the table, we kinda felt that we just paid $12,- for a omelet with stir fried vegetables, but then without the omelet... it were just a couple of different beans and bamboo sprouts, stir fried and covered with minor herbs and spices. the plate was only half covered, so it was obvious that something was missing (the pomodori sauce) and that the cook had not been very creative (nor succesful) with finding a substitute. the service was good, but not outstanding either.
so -sadly enough- we did not really enjoy the food and it did not at all meet our expectations. we were very dissapointed and will not return to fuel cafe.

what a fantastic place to eat. not only was the food wonderful, but the atmosphere and service were exceptional! the building is most unusual, and beautiful, the decor unique and interesting. themenuis diverse with the ability to accommodate the carnivore in me and the vegitarian/vegan in many of my friends and family. being from south louisiana and having traveled the us and abroad, i have eaten at some of the most prestigious restaurants, served by the likes of emeril lagasse, paul prudhomme, john folse and others of their caliber. i can truly say this is by far one of the best restaurants i have been too. my favorite dishes- any of their bison dishes, veggie burgers and fried potatoes with their special dipping sauce. omg, their food is to die for! thank you eric and carrie for a most wonderful dining experience. i will be back, with friends and family!

delicious. our lunch at fuel was absolutely delicious. so many items on themenulooked entincing, but we settled on the veggie burger; the grilled cheese; and the mozzarella, tomato and arugula sandwich. all of the sandwiches were delicious and the fries were incredible. if you can imagine, the mozzarella, tomato and arugula sandwich was like a caprese salad on a really good french baguette...yum. we also tried the apple yum stuff dessert, and it too was great. everything was fresh and flavorful, and the service was attentive. it really is a place that can satisfy vegetarians and carnivores alike. i really wish there was a fuel location in east memphis so i could go more often!

i went ahead and gave them an i like it...but.... so i went ahead and gave them an i like it, but i am afraid they may not make it long enough for me to eat there again. they were out of several items that i, not being a vegetarian of any sort, would have liked. i had my heart set on chicken fried bison...they were out. my second choice was the chicken dish with cheese and onions also out. i gave in and had the chili mac which was alright but even the very best made chili mac on the planet is never likely going to set my taste buds on fire...its almost a kids type meal. my wife had a very interesting salad with a grilled mushroom upside down and filled with cheese. she liked it but said it was really not enough food, as there was hardly any lettuce, so she was still hungry which is saying a lot because she doesn't eat much. i would say with a bit more lettuce her dish would have been more value for the money.

so as i started this review i liked it because what we had was basically good and our server was incredibly nice and attentive. what they need to improve on is having amenuthat they can keep up with so they aren't running out of food, especially among the few meat dishes they have to offer (as in maybe vegans don't eat out as much as us carnivores). i should state the server warned us about the salad not having much lettuce...which is good...but i got an idea instead of warning us of having no lettuce ask if we want more lettuce. lettuce is cheap and a little more would have made what i deemed to be an overpriced and undersized salad, a very reasonable meal. anyway good luck to you fuel we love new places to eat and i hope you make it.

delicious. i have visited fuel twice so far, most recently on 6/2/10. the food is excellent and the atmosphere is really unique. the service in particular was a very positive aspect of the experience. the three servers that i dealt with on my two visits were super friendly and helpful.

themenuis original and has several vegetarian options. the portions seem generous.

my only complaint is that i think it's slightly overpriced. having said that, it will not stop me going back.

a midtown gem. there seems to be a trend at that old gas station/restaurant location on madison, my old favorites leave to make room for new favorites. i was a huge fan of hatley's and equally in love with petra. (cucumber kim chi - hellllo!!!)

the bittersweet nature of fuel's arrival flew out the door the moment i had their french fries. they are honestly the best fries i have ever.. ever eaten. and i know my way around a french fried potato (see user id).

they have a rockin' veggie burger that i talked about for two days. their soups are superb (bison chili!) as is the apple desert. i'm looking forward to working my way down the entiremenuand back again! welcome to memphis. fuel!
