chili mac please.. ok so i saw a couple of reviews, then i found a menu. i saw chili mac on the menu. not just chili but bison chili. ok that's different ,so i set out to give it a try for lunch.
that is how this is supposed to work right. i have passed fuel many times but never have stopped. fuel is an old gas station building now a restaurant. not a lot of setting inside but plenty out and in combined. i had to eat inside today it was warm. i like the open kitchen, you get dinner and a show. i get the menu and i see the chili and i see the mac and cheese, but no chili mac. i asked the waitress about that and she said sorry that's the dinner menu. shucks…i had my mind set on that. "how about a bowl of chili and a bowl of mac and cheese and an empty bowl" was her suggestion. now she is thinking. i got my chili mac. each was very good on it one. the mac and cheese was just right not to runny, not to dry. i am guessing a combination of cheese, very creamy. the chili had a good flavor, not to spicy, a little sweet. bison is pretty lean but it was not gamy like you might think.
now combined of the two, was very good. i will have to go back and try some of the sandwiches they have. very interesting.

i really love the fuel space. it actually used to be a gas station, but most of us remember it as a restaurant--namely petra or hattley's garage. the inside is a little small, but the patio is nice and airy. unfortunately the monkeys (satchel, 9, and jiro, 7) thought it was too cold to sit outside. we picked a nice table in the kitchen side of the restaurant and immediately became the center of our waiter's attention. he first asked what we'd like to drink and jiro asked for a juarito, which he

great food, a little pricey. both my wife and i had the bison burger for our visit. wonderful option and cooked perfectly! it did feel a little off paying over $30 for two burger plates, but we'll still be back to try some other items.

sat on the great patio last night with several friends.the food was amazing!the problem was we wanted a few drinks before going to a concert down the street.only drink choice with alcohol was hot beer & the waitress even charged us for this...i say if you want good food & water i would go back but how can a place that only serves beer serve you hot beer?i think waitress should have stepped up here!

it has a nice covered porch, if you like eating outside.   it is also project green fork certified .  there are 6 things they have to do, which are all good for the environment.  the restaurant has plenty of vegan options.  the first time i went i had their vegan meatloaf.  it was actually really good from a non vegans perspective.   here's a sandwich that someone ordered.   fuel is also known for having some of the best fries in memphis.  on this visit, i had the bison burger and i added maytag blue cheese, and berkshire bacon.  i love beef with bacon and blue cheese. you should definitely try this restaurant.  next time i go, i'll probably order the burger again.  :)

such delicious, healthy options! hip, intimate atmosphere. allow enough time for the chef to create your dish-not fast food but totally worth it! save room for the chia coconut pudding...scrumptious!

cute place, stopped for lunch, server was aweful! no greeting, just a demand for drink order then when we did give it fast enough got "oh so your not getting a drink"
then what we wanted was on "dinner" menu and she really doesn't need to work with the public. was leaving and paying for the drinks and as i was transferring my drink to a togo cup brown flakes came out in the liquid. i would not suggest it.

excellent place to eat. we stopped in for lunch with our two large dogs and found a table outside under the covered porch. the service was excellent. i had a vegetarian walnut meatloaf sandwich. what a delight! it was the best veggie burger i ever had. my husband had red bean and quinoa chili and he loved it. said you would never know there was no meat in it. it was a great experience and a pleasant way to enjoy just one of the special places in memphis. you need to try it....you won't b disappointed.

fuel cafe is located in an early 1900′s gas station in the midtown neighborhood.  i asked about the history of the building while we were dining and was told it had indeed been a service station, then part cafe/part gas station, then a greek restaurant before finally becoming fuel cafe.  the folding automotive bay doors original to the gas station have been left in place but didn’t appear to open any lo

had a pretty good lunch at fuel this past friday. we sat outside. i convinced my mother to try their veggie burger. she loved it. i should've ordered one too. my vegetarian meatloaf sandwich didn't have as much veggie loaf as pictured on their lunch menu online. i also didn't care for the homemade sweet chili ketchup, which i had told our very nice server that i didn't want on the sandwich. not her fault. next time i'll make sure to get my money's worth if i order that sandwich again. we ordered a slice of their vegan chocolate and strawberry cheesecake for dessert. it was delicious and extremely rich. fuel definitely has the best homemade veggie burgers in memphis. i've had them before and they are incredible. our server, a very pretty young lady with short red hair, was very nice and attentive. we'll be back.

the best veggie burger in memphis. i haven't been to fuel cafe in a very long time. i really enjoyed my dinner there last night. the place was packed, which didn't surprise me. they were featured on action news 5 wednesday night. i started off with their homemade vegan chili. pretty good. the tomato base was a little overpowering and there weren't as many beans as i would've liked. for my entree, i chose their homemade veggie burger, which was simply amazing. the best in the city. that's not an opinion. it's a fact. anyone want to prove me wrong?? service was excellent. prices are worth it for the healthy delicious food they serve. can't wait to try some new items on their new menu, like vegan banana pudding.

22 great reviews. 1 bad review. you be the judge!!. ignore jared, who left the only bad review of fuel. can't believe he didn't like the food. great homemade food at reasonable prices. you won't find quality like this for less. the great reviews speak for themselves. i just had their homemade veggie burger and it was the best i've ever had!!! i'm a regular. don't be turned off by one bad review. judge for yourself.

delicious. went there for the first time tonight. felt welcomed the second i walked in. the atmosphere is pleasant and homey. the staff are very friendly and attentive. i chose the vegetarian loaf, which is the non-meat version of meat loaf, with mushroom gravy and mashed potatoes, and i am so glad i did. the homemade veg. loaf, made with cheeses, walnuts and oats, was awesome. topped off with homemade mushroom gravy. it was very tasty and filling. i can't wait to try more wonderful entrees @ fuel. excellent healthy homemade food.

call me crazy, but i just got a real snooty vibe from this place... food is okay. 9 bucks for a bacon, lettuce, and tomato sandwich is a little much especially when you can make it at home. oh well, i will leave it for the tight pants, thick rimmed glasses type folks you kids are imitating these days.

the owner acts like his you-know-what doesn't stink. well i'm here to tell you you're wrong, buddy! your food is average to say the most. who the heck charges $9 for a blt? when i walk into a restaurant and i'm super hungry, you who walks past and ignores because you're "too important to great lowly customers" is kind of pathetic. i think i'll chuckle inside when (not if) this snooty place goes under. btw, to knock someone with your shoulder as you pass them without even acknowledging, too is crappy! good day and i won't be returning!

literally the rudest staff i've ever come across. we came without a reservation and were told that we should wait in our car which is weird, but was also said in the most condescending manner. as if it was our fault the location is claustrophobically small. it literally seats about 10 people so "don't even bother unless you have a reservation." that's a quote from a member of the staff....

wow!! the vegetarian/walnut meatloaf is amazing!! it is seasoned so perfectly my husband (carnivore) loved it! you do not taste walnuts either, it is truly a 'meat' texture and taste. it is not vegan though. the sweet potato fries and the dressing it comes with is phenomenal! we ordered that as an appetizer. great place! it may be slow, but its cook to order so don't come starving. ;)
