greatly good food! server was awesome but the bartender is horrible!!! went we got here it took the bartender 10mins to poor 1 beer! our appetizer came out before we even got the beer. asked to get the braves game on which happened but then it got switched to soccer. asked to get the other tv turned back on to the game which was no problem untill that tv too got switched to soccer. asked to have it turned back and that never happened.

ripoff. the food is good but don't order mixed drink without exactly what you want as the liquor in the drink. they water down the drinks & claim they gave us "crown royal". it wasn't crown as neither of us like crown as it is too sweet. very little whiskey in the drink & it sure wasn't crown royal.

undecided.... stopped in for a quick and early lunch and had the place to myself. even on a bright and sunny day, the inside is somehow dark and smelling of smoke... maybe not a bad thing, just not expected.
i went out back to the absolutely fabulous deck that i could probably spend hours drinking and eating on if i lived close by.
for lunch went with the oyster poboy and chose the red beans & rice as my side. oysters were very good, fried just the right amount of time... crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside and dressed with a nicely spicy remoulade. also very good was the beans and rice, very nice spice level and depth of flavor... not something i take for granted with this sometime very plain dish.
about my only concern was the lack of a crusty french roll for this poboy... the hoagie roll was a substitution embarrassing to anyplace trying to be cajun or creole. finally, on the fence about if 5 of these tasty oysters on a poboy constitutes a reasonable value or not... if the bread had been decent i'd have probably let the oyster count slide...

enjoyable. got there in time for some decent drink prices and half of crab legs for an appetizer. gumbo was tasty, raw oysters were good and my cajun catfish po boy was very good. i came in with minimal expectations but was pleasently suprised.

where to get good raw oysters in town?. when eating raw oysters you want to keep a few things in mind. probably the most important is volume. do they do enough volume to keep the oysters always coming in and going out the door, or do they keep them around for a while? at fontaine's, this clearly isn't an issue. they do a tremendous business in oysters, and the price is right!

in addition to oysters, the do a solid version of the po-boy, as well as a good red beans and rice. the nightly beer specials are also an excellent deal.

what makes fontaine's cool to me is its approach. it's less like a seafood restaurant and more like a bar that serves seafood. that's largely due to it's dimly lit, hole in the wall atmosphere

terrible, terrible, terrible. wow, this is the worst meal i've eaten out in awhile. we can here because i was craving oysters, which we started off with. these were fine.
the really disappointing food was in the entrees. i ordered an oyster po boy. the oysters were fine, but the bread was cheap and flavorless, the lettuce was watery and the "remoulade" basically tasted like mayonnaise. my husband's dish was even worse. he ordered creole. for $14.50 he received a plate of white rice, poured over with canned tomato sauce, 2 shrimp and 2 scallops. no spice, no peppers, nothing else. it was god-awful. not to mention insulting.
also ordered a manhattan. i'm pretty sure the bartender put grenadine in it. wow. wow is really all i can say.

old fave. this is my favorite new orleans restaurant in atlanta following the death of huey's. a few things are hit or miss, but it's good overall, and the stuff that's good is really good. the seafood jambalaya is especially good.

dirtyyy oysters!. i went there with my roommate this past weekend and to start off we each ordered salads! they were both very yummy! we decided to split the rockafella oysters and with every bit there was a crunch...either the spinach they use or the oysters just weren't clean it was disgusting! i still cant believe we actually paid $11 dollars for those...never again!

spotty. calamari was decent but the dipping sauce was terrible. ask for tartar sauce instead. salmon was quite good but the jambalaya was really awful... in watery sauce. (probably used the same calamari sauce.) not even close to the jambalaya i've had in new orleans. the dessert selection that night was unimpressive, so we passed. good beer specials and a very nice patio setting. will probably go back, sans the calamari sauce and jambalaya.

on the fence.... ok, the service was great...the food was good...but some things scared me as a person in the restaurant business...having a group of 4 guys standing over and talking to the guy shucking your fresh oysters while all were chain smoking and blowing it out directly over your food is a bit alarming. if there was a barrier or they were more than two feet away...maybe..or if i was wasted, then who cares...right? calamari was good but the dipping sauce was like a watery soup...i had the poboy and it had 2 shrimp and three small scallops...but was good. the other half had steamed crab and if you screwed that up then you shouldn't be in business...if it wasn't for the server we might of made it a quicker bite. would we go back...sure, but for drinks at the bar or on the deck...after all it is what it is...a bar!
