guided by (pizza) voices. the first time i went toflyingsquirrel, one of their special pizzas of the day was named after a guided by voices song - i knew right then and there that i was in the right place.

amazing pizza. great beer on tap (lucile ipa!). molly malone's ice cream available. local. local. local. great staff.

what's the catch? screaming children. lots of them. strollers up to your ankles. if you want to witness anal expulsive parental techniques in action, go get a pitcher of beer and camp out here for an hour or so.

nice & tasty. just triedflyingsquirrel for the first time last night with a few girlfriends - we all loved it. the staff are super helpful and friendly and the food is fantastic! we started with a beet salad, yum, and then had the fig pizza (maybe it was a special) and a prosciutto pizza (#4). all were great!! nice beers and wines, great atmosphere, easy parking - we'll be back!

although they couldn't accommodate max's desire for a strawberry lemonade, the great folks atflyingsquirrel did make him a special cheese bread with pepperoni - and treated us just as warmly as they always do.

i finally made it to the much lovedflyingsquirrel pizza down here in lakewood (also often identified as mt. baker, columbia city, or seward park), and i am pleased to say that i finally agree with some pizza hype.

eartha kitt with a glass of black fox cider!. yeah!!! a pizza place in south seattle besides the beloved (one my favorites) tutta bella! plus it's so close to home.
the folks that opened this place knew they needed to fill a niche and they did.flyingsquirrel pizza is not like other pizza places its "mixed" music cassette tapes playing in the background with a dose of sophistication and a great open to all atmosphere.

favorite pizza - eartha kitt
favorite beverage: black fox cider

nwscout. great little pizza place, and good pizza!!! however, it is not in columbia city. it is in lakewood, the original lakewood, a slice of heaven located between mt. baker and seward park in seattle. nobody ever gets this right. so,flyingsquirrel pizza is a fantastic place in lakewood, seattle. go squirrel!

good food, too loud, honorable proprietor. our first meal atflyingsquirrel was marred by abusively loud rush music played to a dining room full of older folks and families with children. see my review, posted earlier. following my complaint, the owner graciously compensated us for our meal and asked that i review the restaurant again after having eaten there. this is my end of the bargain.

again, the food is very good. for folks who like loud restaurants, this may be just the ticket. we haven't had better pizza in seattle. the service is attentive but not cloying, and no part of our meal disappointed. we will continue to take-out pizza fromflyingsquirrel.

nevertheless, this is no place for conversation. acoustics are terrible, the music too loud. kids voices are drowned out, and adults need to shout to hear one another. it seems that the staff, habituated to the volume, raise it during the course of a meal.

i hope that bill coury will open another restaurant with better acoustics. he runs a tight ship, and he is a responsive and honorable captain. the local ingredients and careful preparation make for a fine meal.

very good food, appalling acoustics, sad misconception that loud music aids slow food. let's start with the positive. the food is very, very good. the service is efficient, considerate and charming. and we may not go back. the problem is that the music is offensively loud. people who enjoy conversation cannot have one (especially not in a fairly large group). asked several times to turn the music down, our request initially met with gracious compliance. but the volume crept back up, and our almost $200 pizza dinner was intruded upon by the masturbatory guitar riffs of rush. a quick look around the dining room revealed that this was not appropriate music for the time (sunday evening) the average age of the diners (40?) or...conversation. so the much flaunted mixed tapes and musical interests of the owner have a negative effect on the ambiance of the otherwise very good restaurant.

fantastic!!!.flyingsquirrel pizza in columbia city/seward park
is a wonderful experience. the pizza has a crisp and chewy crust, and a flavorful, tangy sauce. the salads are wonderful. also. but, the atmosphere is something that columbia city and seward park has been promising for years, something 'hip'. this pizza parlor would be more at home on capitol hill, or maybe even old ballard, with every employee looking like they put down their guitar, drumsticks or microphone just minutes ago before coming over to take your order - they are that cool and good-looking. but, it is not 'hipster' in that alienating way, it still has a family-feel to the place, kind of like shakey's used to be, back in the day.

4 stars!
