we were all very excited to go to the 5&10 to see what hugh acheson’s creations are like up close and personal. the outside is a simple white building in the five points area of athens. big utensils adorn the walls outside of the building that used to be literally a five and dime store. inside are two dining rooms with lots of tables near each other. there is a southern theme with a big quilt hanging on the wall

skimpy. i've had good experiences here in the past, but this time i ordered the spanish breakfast and it was a joke how little food they brought out. i was hungry two hours later. fried fingerlings? the equivalent of one fingerling potato. if its on the large plate section, it should be a meal.

good. good, but not great. i thought the olive plate was artful and really delicious. my salad and pasta main were just ok but plated well. my desert was delicious. the service was nice, not overbearing. overall, i think my bill was around $90/per person and was an enjoyable evening, but a little overpriced.

i was already really liking this place when the scallops hit the table. cooked perfectly served with mixed baby green salad and grapefruit vinaigrette. the eggplant puree was really delicious but the grapefruit made the dish. i would never in a million years have paired grapefruit with scallops.

the gravlax benedict: poached eggs, dill pickle hollaindaise, fennel sausage, and fennel slaw. ordinarily- i don’t order anything that says “pickle” in the description. i just don’t like pickles of any kind. however once again the chefs at five and ten have proved me wrong... this is one of the reasons why i like to travel around for food- because i like to experience new things, and learn something new.

best pork ever!. the pork porterhouse is the best piece of pig i have ever eaten! upscale and atmospheric. if you want cheap food go to mcdonalds and sit on their molded plastic chairs and good on you saving a couple of dollars. if you like flavor with your meal make reservations at the 5&10.

terrible service, food marginal at best. parking is a pain. dining off bar area is loud, acoustics were never considered. this was our second visit, i think there are several other locations in athens for a better meal and dining experience.

very disappointing food. we have been away from athens for 10 years and were excited about trying celebrity chef hugh atchison’s restaurant again. our party had the quail (see photo) steak, swordfish, and pasta, and nothing was impressive in the least. the quail was quite emaciated and unfit to serve. i reluctantly say that i cannot recommend this restaurant.

one of our favorite spots for date nights and special occasions. the menu changes seasonally and everything is made fresh. we especially enjoy the summer and spring menus. especially the grilled octopus and fudge-swirled coffee ice cream.

had a delightful time at dinner on thursday. the meal opened with pimento cheese and a bacon marmalade. while the special ribs were sold out after i'd ordered, the server graciously provided me with the last two at no cost with the chef's apologies. the chop and ribbon pasta were high quality dishes that left us satisfied and ready for more.

came here for brunch around 11am and it wasn't busy. i made reservations before hand which was a good idea because we were seated quickly and the service was timely.
the food was very good and the little strawberry cakes provided before the meal were complimentary and delicious.
i had the spanish breakfast. everything was superb. the sausage with the eggs and bread were wonderful.

i definitely recommend this place for brunch. it's even within a college budget!

double check your liquor. while 5 and 10 is unarguably athens' premier restaurant, i am sad to complain about a bar pour. they report a 1.5oz pour 'neat' but what i got one evening last week was probably half that, at best. i suggest you be brave and challenge your whiskey or scotch if it looks short, especially if it is straight up.

5&10 used to be my all time favorite go to restaurant in athens. in a sea of low cost, low rent college pubs and fast food, 5&10 beat all with their well executed entrees and tasty cuisine. however, over the last couple of years it's gotten very disappointing. each time we've gone lately we've just left unhappy. the service is super pretentious and cold. they've moved and although parking has always been an issue the new location is actually worse. with more space inside they've crammed the tables full and we could have joined in our neighbors conversation during dinner....awkward. the menu changes very little, and the specials are boring. on our last visit there was no red meat option. my husband is a steak every night sort of man and i've never been to a five star without at least a filet on the menu. $200 dinner and we left feeling not only literally hungry, but hungry for the old 5&10. for instance we ordered the full cheese plate and all that was brought were the three cheeses 4slices of pear and a drizzle of apple butter. c'mon guys really. what happened to the usual accompaniments? we miss them. the quality of food is still phenomenal (we really enjoyed our food) but the experience and feeling of fulfillment just isn't here and for the cost it really should be.

the food was average at best. we went there for sunday brunch and the salad was over salted to the point of being inedible and the shrimp and grits with shiitake mushrooms didn't work.
