rude!! stood at hostess station for 5 minutes while bartender looked at us several times and a waiter walked back and forth without either one saying a word. we left - don't need to eat somewhere where the staff doesn't even know how to speak and at least let you know they will be with you soon!!!!!

had brunch here and it was really good. a bit overpriced for the amount of food, but it's good quality, tasty food.

turns out i love both catfish and sauerkraut...as long as hugh acheson has his culinary hand in it. the whole entree was absolutely delectable. the fish was cooked perfectly: slightly crispy on the outside, tender and moist on the inside, with a wonderfully delicate flavor.

the ravioli is stuffed with fava beans and goat cheese and topped with nuts, kale, ramps and shaved parmesan cheese. there are only three ravioli triangles, but the thick pasta is perfectly al-dente and surprisingly filling.

not worthy. celebrity chef does not mean good food. very disappointed. for an expensive restaurant, it lacked ambiance. the chairs were cheap and uncomfortable. the waiters were dressed so casually. they looked like they came directly from the streets and started serving without changing clothes. not very sanitary looking and lacked class. the server did not know who ordered what. what i asked about what was served with one of the "snackies", he said he did not know. when the bread served to us was cold, we started to worry. there is no excuse for a supposed fine dining establishment to serve bread without heating it up first. i had foie gras which still had veins and was bloody. pork pig ears was serve with lard, yes, pork fat which has turned solid served in a dipping cup but of course did not work because it was solid. better that way because that is unhealthy to eat. my duck breast was served in a iron skillet which made it hard to eat and unsightly. the breast was cooked more on the rare side instead od med- rare. my wife's flounder did not taste fresh at all. it was fishy. it was served in a bowl like dish which made it hard to eat. the cheap silverware kept falling off when laid to rest. our niece"s carbonara looked very ordinary. it was too salty. i could not believe hutcheson manage to ruin the taste of a benton bacon. suffice it to say, we were very disappointed with the meal that we decided to forego dessert. we could not stand further disapointment.

my boyfriend and i went there for his birthday, and he got a spare rib plate that was very very good. the only thing bad was the fact that we had to park and walk to the restaurant due to no parking.

cute but underwhelming. given all the chatter on urbanspoon i was super excited to try it out. well parking was a nightmare and there was no valet, but i braved getting towed to dig in. the atmosphere is great at 5 & 10 - but i found the service mediocre and the food, good, but not worth the price. i have had much better in athens for half the price. overall disappointed.

top chef master hugh acheson sprang to fame in 2000 when he opened 5 & 10 in athens, georgia. named for the old five & dime that was housed in the same space, his french inspired southern cuisine launched him to the realm of celebrity chef. on tv his affable humor, obvious intelligence, and yes the proud unibrow has made him a food tv fan favorite. the girl and i first met him in march of 2012 when he wowed us in a paired dinner for charleston wine and food festival . it only took us 13 years, but we finally made the drive down to athens to try 5 & 10, in its brand new digs in an old antiques shop, and the place is impressive. set among some of the more stately fraternity houses i've ever seen (the university of georgia apparently thought chef hugh's cooking is so good it moved in next door), 5 & 10 features a massive porch, a beautiful bar, several small dinning rooms, and it's own coffee bar. and they have palms in the bathtub  the menu is very representative of chef hugh's new south

good food, lacking service.. five and ten - i really want to say this is one of the best restaurants that i've ever been to, but i simply can't. the food was phenomenal, and very much was on par with other acclaimed restaurants such as chris hasting's hot and hot or frank stitt's highland's bar and grill . however, the service left a lot to be desired.

i came to five and ten, because i wanted to experience the best restaurant in athens before i moved for the city from good. i came on a weeknight fairly late and chose to sit at a half empty bar. the bar staff was polite, promptly handed me a menu and a glass of water which was fine. however, after taking my order i was promptly forgotten.

i ordered a drink which, the bar staff checked my identification for. the bar tender was wholly unaware of my drink order and i had to request it again. on the arrival of my entrée, and proceeded to ask every guest with the exception of myself, and only acknowledged my attempts to catch their attention guest when another guest pointed it out.

part of the dining at a restaurant of the caliber is very much the experience and unfortunately the service i received was more in line with what i expect from a 15 dollar meal at applebees, not a 70 dollar dinning at an award winning restaurant.

whatev. i avoid this place at all costs. i'm convinced the only reason people eat here is because it's where "the cool kids" eat. it's definitely not for the overpriced food--or the pasty, unfriendly waiter who thinks he's doing you a favor by waiting on you. no thanks. i'd rather go down the block and eat outside at cali and tito's like the other peasants than with the "group-uhs." in other words, the snobs who order grouper and pronounce it "group-uh." i'll pass!

great food, but high price. i really enjoy going to this restaurant, but i do not go too often because it is expensive. all the food is very fresh with unique recipes, but because of this, to some, the menu may seem limited.

it's a great place to go on a date! when i go, i usually like to start with the cheese plate. for dessert, i would recommend the creme brulee if they have it on the menu.

overall, 5 and 10 offered a glimpse into the mind of a renowned, southern chef and how he pairs the local area’s bountiful produce with european influences. though his personality still resides in the menu, the execution was spotty and as an example, dessert was the highlight. for the price (it will put a dent in your wallet and no, there were no college students dining this night save for those sitting next to their parents), i’d be willing to consider other options. i was left wanting more…

this is an athens institution and has pioneered the food scene. the atmosphere is charming and honestly a great place for a special occasion and definitely a place to impress a date. if you're not familiar with new cuisines take advantage of their prix fixe menu which changes weekly and is a great deal as well.
