the frog and the foodie. i have never had a bad meal at fin. my colleagues and i have taken numerous customers and visiting colleagues and had excellent meals in a nice setting. as my guests are typical foodies, some from france and italy, i have not had any reason to apologize and i often get celebrated for my choice restaurants. my personal favorite dishes are the charred romaine salad and the scallops over risotto. deserts vary, but are always great. the only drawback experiences thus far have been related to the bar. they seem not to hold a reasonable inventory level, as they often run out of a drafts, bottle beers, and wines. on several occasions, the wine list has been found to be far from current. i continue to work around these short-comings as i find the food to worth the extra effort i have to spend in finding a beer or wine substitute. a french guest and i enjoyed an excellent faux gras appetizer dish there in april.

amazing! love the homemade and creative desserts! i could come here for the dessert menu alone! how many reasonable restaurants in this area make their own chocolate and their own sorbets and ice creams!?

i have dined at fin several times for both lunch and dinner. every time i have loved what i had. this is one of the best restaurants on the peninsula. i enjoy it more than schlesinger's across the street because the atmosphere is less pretentious and the food is just as good if not better. i have always had excellent service, the food is always fresh and artfully prepared. i do wish they would bring back the short rib, though! do yourself a favor and visit fin if you are in the area visiting or have a special occasion. perfect date night spot!

birthday tapas. meatloaf w/ scallop, crab cake, pork tenderloin, great wine pairings and desserts.... donuts, cheesecake, bread pudding, coconut macadamia ice cream.... mmmmmmmm

wonderful birthday dinner. excellent service and food. enjoyed the she crab and sweet corn soups as well as the romaine cesar salad. entrees were the seared scallops and flounder with lump crab. both were fabulous! service attentive. we would return and do recommend!

my husband and i decided to give fin a second chance. we first ate in this space when it was cowboy sid's and it was amazing, then we tried it as fin about four years ago...that was a horrible experience. so, last night on a whim and hearing it might be under new ownership we gave it a shot. i know i was being very critical right from the start. we were greeted with a warm smile and hello from the hostess and sat right away. our server came over in a timely manner; his name was tommy and i had read previously that he was a good server...that's when i first smiled. tommy is a true professional start to finish with just the right amount of attention.
we ordered the local oysters to start which were great. i thought the frozen bloody mary mignonette was a cute play on the traditional. i then ordered the smokey salmon while my husband ordered the fillet. mine came under a cloche filled with a lovely smoke. this is not something i'd seen in newport news before! tommy pulled the dome back and waved the smoke around; the smell was amazing. very fun! my husbands steak was perfect and through the whole night we kept smiling about how glad we were to try fin again. complete 180 degrees!
so if you haven't been in a while, go try it... ask for tommy... and hopefully you'll smile too.

fin is an amazing dining experience!!!. i have to say, fin is a diamond in the rough! a lil off the beaten path, it is tucked back in the port warwick area of nn. my girlfriend and i had a great time. we were warmly welcomed and seated promptly. our server was extremely knowledgeable and helped me pick a nice bottle of wine. the food was incredible. the chef sent us an "amuse-bouche" (sample tasting) because it was our first time there. we tried the oysters and foie gras for apps.the pork belly with the oysters was really good and the foie gras tasted like a bacon-buttery flavored heaven!!! our entrees were just as great. my girlfriend had the scallops, which were perfectly cooked, and i had the best beef tenderloin i have ever tasted. we skipped desert and opted for cocktails at the bar instead. the bar was elegant and fun. the bartender was attentive and made special drinks, just for us! we will definitely be back!

will never eat here again. extremely unprofessional. the bartender "tommy" was very attentive, with prompt and courteous service. fin has advertisements in the locker room of my local gym that attracted myself there to eat whereas prior i only frequented there for wine with friends. these advertisements such as the thai chicken spinach salad evidently has not been on the menu in some time. so instead i tried the salmon, cous cous, walnut pesto. unfortunately, an employee in which he and i had bad dealings a few years back, approached me in an aggressive manner and created a ruckus. he was not present when i arrived or otherwise i would have left prior to being serviced. though when he came into my establishment two nights ago, i was the person whom greeted him and remained professional, not even charging him the cover. he stayed and enjoyed some beverages and left without me giving him any looks, gestures, or rude comments. a female, whom was either the manager or owner of fin also came over and gave me an attitude and told me to "walk on" at which time the bartender tommy addressed them stating "this is extremely unprofessional!" and he again apologized to me.(i was seated at the bar finishing my drink) will be looking at filing a formal complaint with the proper entities.

fresh food, well prepared. good service, pleasant decor. i had grilled flounder with brussels sprouts and summer squash, and it was delightful. one of the other people at the table had pork tenderloin with pork belly. they did not want to try the pork belly because the name sounded unappetizing but i ate it and it was very much like the best pork roast, tender, moist and delectable.

love. very impressed with the food, atmosphere, and staff. we met kenny and it was easily to tell that he was putting his all into the place. great wine selection! the ahi was superb. will return as often as possible.

unless things have changed dramatically, the food was terrible and expensive.

beautiful little restaurant. we had 15 for my son's graduation. the food was excellent and the pricing was really reasonable. we had good wine and good atmosphere. a real hidden gem.
