exquisite. when we arrived to have lunch at fika,insidethe american swedish institute, we had a wait for a table, and it was well worth it. the excellent gift shop makes the wait go more quickly, especially if you enjoy scandinavian literature. fika's menu is scandinavian in its ingredients and concepts. my chilled beet soup was the prettiest color, and the flavors were exquisite. a butter lettuce salad with roasted hazelnuts was beautiful and tasty, and the slice of whole-grain rye bread that i ordered to accompany the meal was toasted and buttered. portions are moderate--not too much but not skimpy, and the attention to plating the food adds to the feel of this lovely restaurant. the waitstaff was competent and friendly.
