i really enjoyed this! i didn't know what to expect from a restaurant inside a museum- i was concerned it might be ikea food... but it was delicious. not bad prices, either. the meatballs were well worth having, there was a great special, and we even had dessert. we had a short wait to be seated, i imagine that is pretty common to happen at lunch time. but the service was good and fast. once seated, we had food within 15 minutes.

exquisite. when we arrived to have lunch at fika, inside the american swedish institute, we had a wait for a table, and it was well worth it. the excellent gift shop makes the wait go more quickly, especially if you enjoy scandinavian literature. fika's menu is scandinavian in its ingredients and concepts. my chilled beet soup was the prettiest color, and the flavors were exquisite. a butter lettuce salad with roasted hazelnuts was beautiful and tasty, and the slice of whole-grain rye bread that i ordered to accompany the meal was toasted and buttered. portions are moderate--not too much but not skimpy, and the attention to plating the food adds to the feel of this lovely restaurant. the waitstaff was competent and friendly.

i love this place because it was so unique. the foods were great and perfect example of swedish cuisine. a great plus is that it's inside an awesome museum as well.

regularly amazing!! of course i don't get to try anything new other than a seasonal salad or soup and dessert since my standard main is the meatball small plate! great house made sodas and coffee!

fika cafe , at the american swedish institute, is not your run-of-the-mill museum restaurant.  instead of mediocre sandwiches and lackluster pizza served cafeteria-style, patrons are treated to table service and elegantly plated new nordic cuisine.  the salmon smörgås is as far from a typical american sandwich as minneapolis is from stockholm.  a lightly breaded piece of seared salmon rests delicately atop a thick piece of dense, crumbly house-made rye bread and a bed of watercress, drizzled with a mustard sauce and garnished with a dollop of beets.
