enjoyed a great dinning experience at ferreira on a bumping saturday night. the ambiance was warm and inviting, with a nice bar as you come in. the service was very good, attentive and friendly. now for the best part, the food. started with an assortment of appetizers. the jumbo shrimp, which are seriously jumbo were out of this world. the salmon tartar and crusted tuna were very good, as was the quail. my favourite though, had to be the octopus carpaccio, absolutely incredible. was just as impressed with my main. wild mushroom risotto in a port sauce served with a beautiful duck leg confit. the aroma of flavours was mind blowing. all of this combined with a very nice bottle ofportuguesewine and you are in heaven. it is relatively pricey, however in my opinion it is absolutely worth it. overall great experience, highly recommend it and look forward to my next dinning experience.

came here late on valentines after another place.
sat at the bar and the server there was awesome, super friendly, knowledgable and helpful.
she explained the menu and how the fresh fish system works with the weights, filleting, types of fish etc.
we ended up getting her octopus appy recommendation, and the daily catch. she recommended aportuguesefish that's very popular at the restaurant, saying that it has a slightly nutty flavour. i forget the name but i will post a photo of it.
the octopus appy was delicious, perfectly cooked. beautiful texture and flavour.
then came the fish which is filleted and served infront of you after it's cooked. the fish was incredible, it was moist, fatty, flavourful, kind of silky in a way. and the veggies and sauce to go along with it matched well. we really felt spoiled and lucky to have gotten a seat there.
if ever back in montreal, we will be eating here again.
great restaurant - decor, ambience, cleanliness, service and food....all wonderful and very well done.

ferreira is not the classicportugueserestaurant but it adapts its cuisine with a modern approach. the ambiance is upscale and stylish with all the details very curated. the tuna and salmon tartare were exceptional and really fresh. while the restaurant is famous for its seafood dishes, i was the only one ordering the cod fillet. my family and wife ordered the 18oz steak and the filet mignon. flavors were simple but not simplistic!!! the use of few spices elevated the taste of both the fish and the meats (which were perfectly cooked medium-rare as requested). given the price, i would say it is perfect for a special occasion or celebration.

if you like spending a fortune on tiny portions of bland faux-fusion food that does no justice to theportugueseculinary identity, then this is the place for you.

not a traditionalportugueserestaurant... better. ferreira's is more avant garde than traditional. i was pleasantly please to discover that actually. the menu offers a wide variety of entrees and appetizers. all the items that we had (cod, risotto and sengal shrimp, octopus...) were excellent. it is an expensive and polished restaurant, but it was worth it.

5 of 5 stars (excellent, fine dining). (see explanation of ratings below)

not your daddy'sportugueseplace. this is upscale, hip and loud.

love the leggy, lovely waitresses.

try the sardines: large and tasty.

the risotto is to die for: served with a leg of duck confit.

about $90 per person, booze included, no dessert, excluding tip.

chef spends a lot of time in the dining room.

about my ratings:

i divide restaurants into three categories.

1) fast food and "fast-casual" (low-priced, no table service).

2) casual, mid-priced dining (table service, average entrée price: $10-$20).

3) fine, high-end dining (linen napkins, no plastic cups, no tv's in dining room, average entrée priced at more than $20, can vary depending on the city).

fine dining can earn a max of five stars. casual dining can earn a max of four stars. fast food can earn a max of three stars.

montreal's first taste mtl. for montreal's first ever restaurant week, we wanted to go to a familiar place that's usually unaffordable. the choice of ferreira café was easy: when else can you sample a full dinner for $39 before 10pm at this bastion ofportuguesegastronomy?

ferreira boasts an intimate and upscale interior with its long bar, signature wall of broken, colorful dishes and open-concept kitchen on the mezzanine level. the place is perfectly suited for a special occasion or for plain people-watching.

the menu revolves aroundportugueseseafood dishes; some are classics while others are updated versions. it also includes some meat dishes and surf & turf combos. for taste mtl, we had a choice of two starters, two mains and one dessert, all of which we sampled.

the beautiful hostess warmly greeted us and showed us to our table, and our attractive waitress was very friendly and attentive. the food came in a timely manner and was at the right temperature. really can't say much here, we wish all restaurants have service like this.

we love ferreira for everything it offers: the consistently good food, the ambiance, the great service... whether it's for a special occasion, to show off to out-of-towners, or a pricey lunch, you won't be disappointed here. at $39, the taste mtl menu did a good job of showcasing this seafood haven's capabilities at a budget-friendly price.

treasures of the sea on painted ceramic plates. ferreira offers a lunch surrounded with hand painted pottery and ceramic plates from portugal. it is not just about colourful plates, but also tasteful cuisine. the caldo verde is a traditional and soothingportuguesesoup which should kick start every meal, but the grilled calamari will not disappoint you. for the main course, the cod is a must if you are curious to find out how it feels to savour fish that melts in your mouth; a real treasure! however, the service was disappointing; the waiters were disorganized and lacking table courtesy. in fact, the art of "waitering" clearly did not equal the art on the walls. the pastel de nata, a scrumptious and well-likedportuguesepastry (also known as a piece of art), should complete every meal. if you rather select a lighter desert, the trilogy of sorbet (mango, raspberry and citrus) is to die for. desert at ferreira is a main course itself; make sure you leave room!

anyone who makes a bad comment about this restaurant must be either jealous or absolutely crazy! fantastic in every sence of the word! went for my birthday. good service. the appetizers were delicious! especially the sardines. just like myportuguesegrandma makes! had the rib eye... one of the best pieces of meat i've ever had. made me feel happy inside, that's how good it was!

one and only, best of it's kind. i have been a regular at ferreira's for years and continue to recommend it as one of the best of it's kind.portuguesefood is common on the plateau and the food is great. ferreira's takes the classiques and adds the refinement to make it gourmet. in my opinion the fish and shell fish is where they excel in originality, in that shrimp is shrimp and fish is fish, but they manage to infuse it with a taste that is unique to theportuguesedishes. the wines and portos are also what make ferreira's stand out, their sommelier is the best and really knows how to improve the dining experience, with his recommendations. the service and atmosphere make any evening there, be it romantic or business, a sure winner

used to be better!. 4,5 years ago, this place used to be my favourite in town. the food is not as good as it used to be and i miss the warmth of the old days. they are victim of their success: it has turned into a very pretentious restaurant that i have no choice but to unfortunately pass on. with betterportugueserestaurants in montreal with more interesting price/food quality value, chez ferrera is no more of interest.
