came here late on valentines after another place.
sat at the bar and the server there was awesome, super friendly, knowledgable and helpful.
she explained the menu and how the freshfishsystem works with the weights, filleting, types offishetc.
we ended up getting her octopus appy recommendation, and the daily catch. she recommended a portuguesefishthat's very popular at the restaurant, saying that it has a slightly nutty flavour. i forget the name but i will post a photo of it.
the octopus appy was delicious, perfectly cooked. beautiful texture and flavour.
then came thefishwhich is filleted and served infront of you after it's cooked. thefishwas incredible, it was moist, fatty, flavourful, kind of silky in a way. and the veggies and sauce to go along with it matched well. we really felt spoiled and lucky to have gotten a seat there.
if ever back in montreal, we will be eating here again.
great restaurant - decor, ambience, cleanliness, service and food....all wonderful and very well done.

woo my highest rating given so far

this place is pretty amazing food wise first off

seafood platter, so fresh and the meat was so sweet and juciy. oysters great, lobster juicy and fresh, prawns delicious one of the best platters ive had

black cod. the smoothest softest and juiciest cod ive ever had period. definately a must to try here. no matter what order the cod

thefishand seafood bouillabaisse was decent, the other two dishes really over shadowed it and hard to truly enjoy after the platter and cod. flavourful and the seafood inside was nice but recommend you try the other two

staff was also very polite and attentive, although looks like theyre stretch thin amongst tables. almost made full marks if not for the lack of staff and the bouillabaisse

ferreira is not the classic portuguese restaurant but it adapts its cuisine with a modern approach. the ambiance is upscale and stylish with all the details very curated. the tuna and salmon tartare were exceptional and really fresh. while the restaurant is famous for its seafood dishes, i was the only one ordering the cod fillet. my family and wife ordered the 18oz steak and the filet mignon. flavors were simple but not simplistic!!! the use of few spices elevated the taste of both thefishand the meats (which were perfectly cooked medium-rare as requested). given the price, i would say it is perfect for a special occasion or celebration.

treasures of the sea on painted ceramic plates. ferreira offers a lunch surrounded with hand painted pottery and ceramic plates from portugal. it is not just about colourful plates, but also tasteful cuisine. the caldo verde is a traditional and soothing portuguese soup which should kick start every meal, but the grilled calamari will not disappoint you. for the main course, the cod is a must if you are curious to find out how it feels to savourfishthat melts in your mouth; a real treasure! however, the service was disappointing; the waiters were disorganized and lacking table courtesy. in fact, the art of "waitering" clearly did not equal the art on the walls. the pastel de nata, a scrumptious and well-liked portuguese pastry (also known as a piece of art), should complete every meal. if you rather select a lighter desert, the trilogy of sorbet (mango, raspberry and citrus) is to die for. desert at ferreira is a main course itself; make sure you leave room!

overpriced and just ok. the restaurant was almost empty when i arrived alone. i was seated at an upstairs table as i was told the tables were all booked, which i almost did not believe. my "tuna duo" appetizer was tasty, but not worth $18. my wholefishdish was deboned at the table for me, but there was not much actual "meat" left after the skin and bones were removed. the side of mashed potatoes was lukewarm. in fact, everything was lukewarm. the restaurant began to fill as i ate, and by the time i finished, it was packed. my server, (who was very good at the start) was nowhere to be seen as he was swamped with the other tables. no refills on anything. i decided just to pass on dessert and get the hell out. i am not from montreal, but this seems to be one of those places that people go to because it is hip and the chef is somewhat well-known, even though the food is just so-so. maybe i just had a bad visit, but at over $30 just for an entree, i will not be giving this place a second chance. (note to all montreal bartenders: the garnish for a vodka tonic is a lime...)

one and only, best of it's kind. i have been a regular at ferreira's for years and continue to recommend it as one of the best of it's kind. portuguese food is common on the plateau and the food is great. ferreira's takes the classiques and adds the refinement to make it gourmet. in my opinion thefishand shellfishis where they excel in originality, in that shrimp is shrimp andfishis fish, but they manage to infuse it with a taste that is unique to the portuguese dishes. the wines and portos are also what make ferreira's stand out, their sommelier is the best and really knows how to improve the dining experience, with his recommendations. the service and atmosphere make any evening there, be it romantic or business, a sure winner

three strikes you're out. the filet mignon was precooked and microwaved, it was inedible. thefishtasted as if it had been boiled and devoid of flavour. never again!
