good ice cream, but.... the service is sporadic; good when business is slow, but horrid when the place is jammed. parking on piedmont ave is all but non existent and the fenton parking lot is a postage stamp not worthy of the name parking lot. they take no reservations; so standing in line is the routine, not the exception.

the icecreamis good, but no better than other emporiums featuring high quality icecream(like dreyers). i recommend going elsewhere for ice cream; somewhere where the parking and service are better.

it's crazy fun this icecreamplace, so loud with laughter , noises, birthday parties.
the serving sizes are massive and inviting . unfortunately first time came here when i was already full, so only manage a petit sundae, but the texture of the icecreamwas so creamy and yum. the portion of the one scoop was big as well. the hot caramel and peanuts, whipcreamand cherry on the top was perfect.

so much ice creams to still try, definetly need to come back to fentons!

for an icecreamplace, their icecreamreally sucks in my opinion. it's like overpaying for dreyers is what this is. if you want quality icecreamthis is not your place, if you want exorbitant amounts of not so good ice cream, them you might like this.

their icecreamlike i said is not so good. it's extremely sweet and the flavors aren't very pronounced, it tastes like vanilla-everything.

the food on the other hand was decent - had one of their veggie sandwiches as well as onion rings. the sandwich was solid, and came with a side of chips, the onion rings were really good (definitely not house made, but whatever).

i appreciated their wide range of food and dessert options. service is pretty rushed, but i guess that is to be expected. the restaurant is pretty large and if you come later in the day there isn't a line. would not come here again, it's definitely not worth the wait!

fenton’s creamery in oakland, california has been serving up their amazing icecreamsundaes since 1922, becoming an icon of the east bay. their iconic stature was also present in pixar’s film, up, when they were featured in a scene where mr. fredricksen, russell, and dug are having a tasty treat on the curb. they make their own icecreamand topping in house, and also serve up traditional breakfast, sandwiches, burgers, and salads; however, the main reason to make a visit is for their enormous icecreamsundaes.

you’ll typically find a line forming at the parlor if you’re looking to dine in. for those looking to dash, fenton’s has a separate line just for icecreamorders to go. the atmosphere of the parlor has a classic american family diner with an open kitchen where guests can see their icecreamsundaes being made. there are also opportunities throughout the day to see their famous icecreambeing freshly made in their mixers.

first up was the cookie connection. this was a cookie creation that starts with a warm chocolate chip cookie under scoops of cookies n’cream and cookie dough icecreamtopped with hot fudge, marshmallow topping, whipped cream, crushed oreos, and topped off with a cherry.

second sundae was a customized regular size, which is still a pretty good portion on its own. comprised of a scoop of pistachio and mocha almond fudge. we asked for strawberry and caramel toppings to get a real feel for the icecreamflavors first before drowning them with sauces. every sundae is finished off with almonds, whipped cream, and a cherry.

the last jumbo sundae to come out was an even larger customized masterpiece. this sundae came with several scoops of dark chocolate raspberry twist, chocolate marble, and cherry vanilla icecreamtopped with raspberry and hot chocolate syrup finished off with the traditional whippedcreamand, you guessed it, a bright red cherry.

fenton’s creamery is a classic american place to visit and have a big old school style icecreamsundae. delicious flavors, huge portions, and an awesome atmosphere.

i can't comment on the food menu, only the icecream- apparently people actually go here for more than the ice cream. who knew?

obviously, it's hard to review icecreambecause it's icecreamand you can't really screw that up. but their sundae concoctions are amazing. go with a big appetite because the servings are big, too. my favorite is the black and white: chocolate and vanilla icecreamwith marshmallow and hot fudge. kinda heaven in a sundae bowl, if you ask me. get a junior size unless you have an empty stomach. they also have butter brickle ice cream, which was one of my favorites growing up that you really don't see in stores much anymore.

parking can be tricky, their lot is small and the street is busy.

this place is a classic spot in oakland. a fantastic place if you want quality icecreamand a wide variety of flavors. often very crowded so you should plan ahead of time before going. the food is also reasonably good, and not too pricey. featuring a basic american style cuisine. great place to bring your kids and/or to have parties. you should at least try this place once

great icecream& ambiance - food only so-so. this has long been a favorite local hang-out (going back to my high school days). great old-timey atmosphere, and fun for groups. icecreamis very good, while the burgers/fries are only so-so.

they make all the icecreamhomemade so it’s extrea creamy and good. i don’t eat the cookies but it’s nice that they’re there. i got turned on to rocky road earlier this year – never really realized that i liked it until someone else ordered it and it looked good, so i gave it a whirl and now i’m a fan!

lastly, here’s a shot of the inside:

icecreamhas never really been my thing for some reason, and i much prefer cookies, but fenton's definitely satisfies one good icecreamcraving!  best known for the fenton's challenge (and being featured in up), this all-american creamery serves up some of the meanest sundaes that you will ever have.

truly awesome ice cream. visiting some friends in the area, i skipped dinner, opting instead for a black and tan junior sundae and a side of fries. fantastic icecreamand unbeatable fries. the fries were even good cold the next day which is a true rarity.

toasted almond fudge icecreamperhaps the new super food?. my folks went to cal and i grew up in the east bay, as such fenton's was the go-to spot for icecreamand grilled tuna sandwich's. i've been back more recently as an adult and it's still great - although i skipped the meal and went straight for a toasted almond fudge black and tan, which rivals any neo-icecreamconcoction out there (except for perhaps molly moon's salted caramel in seattle, which is my new fav)

omg the icecreamis huge!!!!. my boyfriend & i went there tonight, it was my 1st time there, he'd been there before before their fire, which i didn't know about, til he told me about the place. so i was phyched to try the place, another 1st for me with him. we have many 1st's together. :) anyway, the place is very well lit, the colors i'm not crazy about, but it works. it was seriously busy & noisy the whole time, but it was cool. we sat at the counter, as there were no tables or booths available for us cus it was so busy. i didn't mind, cus from where we sat, we had the perfect view of watching the chef's preparing everyones orders. it was actually kinda cool for me, as a 1st time visitor of the establishment. good thing we only ordered 1 sandwich each, w/no fries..cus we wouldn't have been able to eat the icecreamthey brought us. we ordered the 3 scoop order. i was thinking we'd get 3 normal size scoops, but no we got 3 huge scoops. we couldn't finish even 1/2 of it, we had to take the rest home. as well as i had to take the 2nd 1/2 of my sandwich home. the portions are not small by the slightest. but then, i can't eat alot anyway. our flavors we chose were mint chip (my favorite) blueberry cheesecake & ccac (his favorites) and man was it good! his was too sweet for me, but it was good. i couldn't believe how huge our icecreamorder was. if your not a big eater, like me, bring several friends to help you eat this....we had to take our left overs home & put it in the freezer til later. our waiter was great, it was busy as heck, but he was great. he was very attentive to us. :) i'd highly recommend going to fentons. i hope you like kids too...cus there are alot there. :)

fenton's creamery and restaurant is well over 100 years old, and it maintains its heritage by making its own icecreamon site, keeping quality high and serving size large. we were taken here by friends in oakland, though it took a couple trips around the

come for the ice cream, not the food. the icecreamat this long time establishment is delicious! i love the classic toasted almond and often crave this flavor. besides that, the days of a quick cheap bite of sandwich before the treat are over. the food here is overpriced and not very good.

i love the main room and hate the back "party room" which is more like a holding room. both times i was seated in the back room we were given the same rude waitress (this was a year or two ago). maybe too many children's birthday parties in one day makes a server a little cranky but i felt annoyed that we were spending 20 per person on an icecreamdinner and were ignored and then sighed at constantly.

anyway, that brief rant aside, come to the front room of this busy icecreamparlor for a sundae and you will leave happy!
