could be so good, but.... we have dined here many times as its in the hood. always seems to be new staff so service tends to be slow and 'green'. the regular menu items are quite delicious, so we can forgive the poorly trained staff. ordered spot prawns last night off the fresh menu and to no surprise our waitress hadn't tried the dish, did not know how many came in the order, and neglected to mention they are served whole. would have been nice if the menu indicated 'peel and eat', then we simply would not have ordered the dish. working for your food while wearing an expensive silk blouse - don't think so! the kitchen did not even put slits in the shells to make peeling them easier. we had to request finger bowls, and they took so long to be served that we were forced to use our water glasses! then we actually had to ask for our water glasses to be cleared and fresh ones poured! bowls for the shells and prawn heads were not served either. we spoke with the manager to explain that one should not be expected to peel their own prawns when they are over $4.00 each without even a finger bowl or a slit along the shell! she sarcastically explained that the chef's intention is for the prawns to be served as they are in nature. naturally, it was a finger coated, 'unappealing' mess! to add to the unfortunate disappointment was the uncomfortable, crammed patio seating. too many tables, no chair cushions, and a horrible playlist of music! had the drinks be served in a more reasonable time frame, maybe none of this would have seemed so irritating. the owner sat at a table across from us and neglected to address his customers dissatisfaction or his staff's lack of service, or his kitchens lazy intentions. maybe it's just a hobby restaurant for him? a passionate restaurant owner would have acknowledged the calamity and rectified it with finesse. a great chef would have plated the prawns in a more practical and appetizing manner. a good waitress would have taken the prawns back to the kitchen to have them shelled. too bad, because with a just little more attention to detail and charm, this place could be magic.

so i’m kind of a chicken & waffle addict. i love chicken and i kinda love waffles but put the two together and drizzle sauce on top and i’m all over it. i’m a big fan of sweet and savoury dishes and i find no meal quite as satisfying as this brunch combo. i’ve tried a lot of chicken & waffles in this city, my favourite was at the (now closed) little district on lonsdale. a lot of these dishes were good but very few were great. so i was skeptical when a family friend, who i ran into while having brunch at the restaurant next door to feast, told me i had to try the chicken & waffles at the place next door.

went for brunch this morning and was denied a seat because they were too busy.... basically you’ll have to leave. wow never heard that from a server before - times are changing.

last week, i was invited by feast neighbourhood table in west vancouver to check out their new prix fixe menu that will be available starting march 29th. feast is a local neighbourhood restaurant that features fresh ingredients that are sourced locally. the vibe is unpretentious – a place you could go to relax and have a conversation with your server. while we were dining, i noticed a couple times that people would come in and they would know them on a first name basis. the space is warm and inviting, rustic and casual.

feast is your ideal neighbourhood restaurant - elegant but also cozy. the food is rustic but also with a good amount of refinement. the avocado fries are to die for, and probably next big thing after cauliflower fries. and the bison tenderloin is one of best wild game dishes i have had in a while. as some might find dundarave a little far, but i think it's totally worth the trip for a special occasion.

i'm not sure what else to say except that i've been wowed once again by the good folks at feast. this may have been the best burger i've ever had in my life. from the bread, to the custom well done patty, and the bacon weave. the bacon weave. what is this? epic meal time? amazing. . fries, on effin' point.

i was invited to participate in the vancouver foodster caesar challenge as one of its three judges. my job: to visit the eight participating restaurants and pick my favourite caesar between them all. and that is what brought me here today. truth be told, i don’t visit west vancouver too often as the commute is lengthy, and even worst during rush hour. so with a later dinner in mind, we hopped onto the highway this sunday, and found our way here without much difficulty.

dundarave village, one of my go-to spots on my day off, is a quiet community located in west vancouver with about a one block stretch of restaurants and retail. the beach and seawall are easily accessible from here and for those who come, they’ll find not just beautiful scenery, but eateries that shouldn’t be missed. it’s here that you’ll find feast, a restaurant serving delicious refined food in a laid back setting, with the added bonus of a spacious patio.

some items, like the prawn blt sandwich and the lemon curd dessert were absolute heaven--succulent prawns and wonderful homemade bacon on the former and light and fluffy goodness in the latter. but on the other hand i could not have been more disappointed in the crispy pork belly--chewy and dry. however excellent and attentive service made me give feast an above average rating overall.

the dinner at feast included a four course meal, each paired with a fantastic wagner family of wine brands wine. wines that were featured included a conundrum white 25th anniversary, never served in bc before, mer soleil silver unoaked chardonnay, emmolo napa merlot and a special selection napa valley cabernet sauvignon. harvest, a caymus vineyards winemaker, provided an overview of each wine as they were being served with the course.

pricey. i used to go to feast often. most time i go because of their fried chicken. however, after their "invention" of a new menu, the quantity of fried chicken is reduced, almost half of the original size, despite the high price.

feast...not so much. dinner at feast is not for the hungry. if you are looking for a nice meal with - you know - maybe a vegetable of two on the plate, this is not the place for you. feast "feeds" you tiny portions of pretentious nothing and charges you extra for vegetables (although nobody bothers to mention that there will be no accompaniments on the plate to begin with). what happened to ordering a meal and feeling like you have actually eaten at the end? with menu items that suggest comfort food, such as meatloaf, fried chicken and curry, one might expect to feel the satisfaction of eating a delicious home cooked style meal. oh contraire! the tiny morsels of food that make it out of the kitchen are barely enough to fill a small child, and are frankly nothing special. this is a don't bother restaurant - hope it gets replaced soon by something better.

girls day/night out. i recently hosted a ladies evening for 20 in the private room upstairs. we had a pre set menu and everything was wonderful. my girlfriends loved the food, room and ambience. perfect venue for a meeting or a private function. i then hosted a luncheon downstairs for another group of 20. we also had a pre set menu so it was another great event.the food was amazing. service was very attentive. i have been many times in smaller groups. they are very accommodating. so glad to have them in west vancouver. no need to go downtown.
