fat dog cafe & bar

coffee was amazing after getting it right . customer service was a letdown, was ignored a lot when i was ordering. my sister order a veggie burger, which she said was flavourless and soggy. maybe nexttimewe are in town might give it another go.

we had breakfast in late january. spectacular meals and impressive portions, particularly the french toast. prompt service from justin. many thanks to you justine and also marty for looking after us while in rotorua for the shorttimewe were there. from experience of managing cafes in the past, the mad dog cafe is a sure thing on your 'things to do in rotorua' list.  carlos

been here 2 times already. the coffee was alright. lasttimei ordered an eggs benedict. it tasted alright.... but thistimei ordered a steak sandwich. it tasted bland and the service was bad. the worse steak sandwich that i have ever had....

the good:
thick shakes were hand made with real ice cream.
everything else:
you would think a place that charges $20 for a burger and $19 for eggs benedict would know how to deep fry hash browns and cook chicken.. two hash browns, one cooked pretty well, one way over cooked. surely you would put them in at the sametimeand out at the same time? the chicken and bacon on my burger had been way over cooked in a lot of oil and both had turned roofless hard, the edges of one chicken which was cooked much more than the other had crystallized. the fat dog special purple onion shreds were bland and completely out of place. the burger would have been much more satisfying with just the cole slaw, bun and aioli. what a joke. nobody else at the table had anything decent to say about their meals either.

some constructive advice for the owner: find some chefs who know how to fry at least and lose that ridiculous shredded onion.

order angus siron steak, but not good tasty. the steak tasty like a rock. hope nexttimeto give me the real angus beef. not like this rubber steak.

been into this restaurant for several times, but my last visit was real disappointment. ordered for steak sandwich and tasted bland. got my workmates for lunch and everyone was disappointed. service staff was friendly and food was ontimeonly the food we didn't like. not going to recommending anymore.

this is my second visit to fat dog and for the secondtimei really enjoyed the experience. the coffee was great, good strong flavour in the espresso, service was rally quick considering how busy the cafe was. a definite go to if you are in rotorua

we eat here everytimei visit rotorua! their garlic bread is magic, their coffee is amazing, yummay breakfasts and massive burgers!

very friendly staff. we went on a very busy day but still got great service.

the interiors are so quirky that i notice something new each time.

food portions are huge! i just had scrambled eggs, avocado and sausage. toast is always a massive slice! my partner had scrambled eggs and bacon, also great. pricing is same same, no more than anywhere else. coffee is was really good! secondtimei've been there, love the place. it gets insanely busy, we were there really early to eat before a day of rugby!

food is ok but need a much better cashier to handle the peaktimein the morning. im a bit disappointed really! been over charged for my coffee

this restaurant caught my eye from previous visits to rotorua. unfortunately thistimewe did not have a chance to dine here for dinner. however, we did for dessert!
we ordered the death by chocolate dish... oh my ... it was amaaazzzing!! this dessert dish was very generous and had multiple dessert items on the plate. there were two unique dessert spring rolls filled with chocolate brownie i think?! - these were sooo good and was my partners favourite item. i would definitely come back for dessert and hopefully dinner next time!

p.s the dessert cabinet looked amazing... the cake and brownie sizes were very very generous- so appealing!

service is good, coffee great. but the food could do with some working on. they had a really big menu but i ended up ordering my favourite, eggs benny with smoked salmon. to be totally honest i could of made better eggs benny at home. everything was tasteless. wound not be visiting this place again nexttimeim in rotorua.

great selection of food, both menu and counter. a good size breakie and was served relatively quickly, hot and well presented.
i like to sit out on the street which is a lil cold at thistimeof year but a good meal always makes it worth it. hubby enjoys the large slab of chocolate cake. the coffee was not the best i've had but was drinkable. we'd go back for more.

this, the thirdtimei have been here, will have been the last.

i ordered the spaghetti bowl ("bol" on the menu) for my daughter and it turned out to be canned, reheated chef boyardee served with two pieces of toast and frozen reheated hash browns. my four year old wouldn't even eat it; well, she ate the toast. their profit margin was probably like 99% on that dish i paid almost $10 for, not to mention my terrible panino sandwich made from the chicken leftover from last sunday's roast. ugh.

i kept thinking the wholetimewe were there that this place would be perfect for gordon ramsay to come in and do a makeover, because it must be a kitchen nightmare back there. something is terribly wrong with the way they run things.

good food and great customer service. during lunch the waitingtimecan be a bit longer than expected but quality meal. enjoyed and recommend their chicken burger meal and cajun salad. great experience.
