we love a good bbq joint! fancy hank’s is great place tp catch up with friends and family!
we loved the venue and also the delicious food they offer.
particularly amazed by their sweet & sour bbq wings with yoghurt ranch and also their cornbread with sweet jalapeno spread and pickled jalapenos - flavours are amazing!!!
apart from those, we also had their 14-hour smoked rangers valleybrisketwith coffee molasses, red onion pickles, mac n cheese with provolone, thyme crumbs, bbq fries with tamarind mayonnaise.
i think thebrisketwas a bit too strong in flavour for me though, we couldn’t finish the whole serve!

we went to fancy hanks a few weekends ago for the first time, we ordered the pitmaster bbq platter and got:

🥚 deviled eggs
🥜 mixed nuts
🥩 beef briskets
🍗 buffalo wings
🍗 fried chicken
🍞 corn bread
🍟 seasoned chips
🥗 coleslaw

everything was great, full of flavor, good portions and cooked perfectly! the beefbrisketwas incredibly tender and fell apart so easily with just a touch. the wings were our favorite for sure! also, the corn bread was amazing & we’re still daydreaming about it. we 100% recommend you to try their platter 😋

the only downside was the restaurant space itself. we went there on a somewhat hot day and unfortunately they only have two wind pipes which weren’t really helping nor cool. i was struggling with the heat so we had to get the food to go and went home (luckily we live close-by!). so our recommendation is either get a takeaway or wait to dine in until the weather cools down! ❄️

we stopped this evening for a sneaky pre show dinner and were not disappointed!
we didn't have a booking but managed to get a seat at the bar (actually our favourite!). staff were welcoming and explained the menu really well. there were so many delicious looking sides and starters so we ordered a few of those! 5 was a decent amount of food! highlights were thebrisketends with beetroot (great flavours and textures!), the mac and cheese and the cumin fried cauliflower. collard greens were awesome but ultra spicy-a different type of heat than other items we tried and a little off the vibe of the food.
overall, great experience, left really full and enjoyed our dinner. will defs come again and are coming to try their sunday roast! thanks guys

the beefbrisketwas delicious and the sides were great - recommend the macaroni cheese and romaine lettuce. however, we ordered a whole rack of ribs - it came out very quickly and clearly had been cooked earlier and reheated/kept hot for a long time. the meat was overcooked and had no tenderness. loved the rooftop bar, good friday night atmosphere and espresso martini.

after my first time at this restaurant, i knew this would be one of my favourites.

i have been to a couple of american barbecue places, but this one definitely takes the cake. thebrisketfrom the pitmaster's selection 'from the smoker' with the accompanying sauces bursts with flavour and honestly one of the best things i have ever tasted has to be the cornbread from fancy hanks. 

every time i have eaten here, the service has been good and the food arrives quickly. let's not forget to mention the beautiful and classic interior design which does make you feel very 'fancy'.

two must haves on this menu - the devilled eggs and the brisket!! thebrisketis melt in your mouth delicious with a smoky dish flavour. mac n cheese is good too. ordered the set menu and you won’t go hungry! you get a mountain of food including sides of potato, beans, coleslaw and cornbread. suggest if you are not hungry then to order separately. great vibe and friendly service.

celebrated my birthday here a while ago. catered to a large group of us with good service. had the beefbrisketwhich was tasty. wanted to try the pork ribs as heard it’s yummy but it was sold out. got the mac and cheese which did not disappoint

price to some might be pricey but tbh with the time they spent on smoking those meat is definitely worth it.
would highly recommend to all my friends.

fancy hanks beefbrisketis incredible. we tried it out when melbourne was in lockdown and it’s seriously wet our appetite to visit them again soon for more of their dishes. tender, juicy, melt in your mouth brisket. yum!

the food was underwhelming to say the least. the buffalo wings were tiny and the portion was smaller than the price tag justified. mybrisketburger felt like it had been sitting around waiting to be served for at least 20 minutes, and was far from piping hot when i received it (to the point that the slice of cheese inside remained unmelted throughout). not a great reflection on a bbq restaurant when the best part of my meal was the slaw (which was actually very nice). wont be rushing back.

staff was friendly and attentive, i will give them that. but this place has been very underwhelming for my expectations from what i’ve read from other reviews and images on their website.

the main disappointment i have with fancy hank’s is their signature meats, firstly, their victorian baby back ribs, on their website they state that this dish has to be pre-ordered 24 hours in advanced due to limited availability and perhaps maybe to serve it at it’s best served moment, i could not have been more wrong, the pork ribs were dry to the bone. for something you’d have to pre-order, you would expect the meat to slide right of the bone as you bite into it, tender, juicy, and full of flavour. as for fancy hanks, the white sauce just makes the pork taste creamy, perhaps an effort to mask the dryness of the pork ribs. i’m fairly confident those ribs did not come off the grill and were pre-cooked before i even arrived due to several factors:

1. pork was dry when ribs should have the meat slide off them
2. charred parts of the pork ribs, supposed to be crispy when off the grill, instead could not be bitten and was rock hard.
3. temperature of the meat when served was room temperature.

now, onto the brisket, oh the brisket. this is what american barbeque epitomises. slow cookedbrisketthat’s tender and falling apart, perfect smoke ring that infuses smokey flavour into the brisket. all of the above did not apply to my experience with their briskets. as you can see from the images i have attached, it was dry, very very dry. reminds of an overnight serving of dry pulled beef once i started chewing into it. the only tender part was the fat on the brisket. the meat itself was dry, and required a good bite to break the meat down. looking at pictures on their website and rave reviews from other people, i don’t know if i was just unlucky when i visited fancy hanks or their standards have dropped and i came to their restaurant too late. for the price i paid for the meal, i can easily name 30 other places in melbourne cbd where you can get better value for money with more memorable food experiences that have been consistent with their performance over the last 3 years i’ve been living here.

i was expecting a good meal in celebration of my partner’s birthday, i honestly waited a long time to come to this place, but i guess my cravings for american style barbeque will have to continue it’s wait. this has been disappointing for me, and if i ever visit them again and the experience is the same, i’m done hoping for anything better from them.

on a side note, the deviled eggs where delicious. that’s pretty much it. good service, good deviled eggs, but their “barbeque” did not feel authentic and felt like overnight servings. harsh criticisms but definitely justified and fair. i feel like this needs to be heard by them if they only want to improve and be consistent.

insane pork ribs, greatbrisketand amazing entrees. it's no surprise that their pork ribs are so popular because they are really good and somehow different to the typical american ribs. it's a little dryer (not in a bad way), has less graze but the white sauce on top really made it unique and brought out the best of the ribs.

went here with family as we had to wait 45 mins for wagyu one as we didn’t have a reservation and we are already hungry. not sure whatbrisketsauce tastes like but is it really that bitter? yuck!brisketwas also dry af. ribs was already sold out so we haven’t tried that one. i reckon if they don’t have the ribs go to another restaurant. everything else we had that day was not worth it for the price we paid.

the food was extremely expensive for the quality, pork sausages were under cooked,brisketwas dry and chicken wings were burnt. overall very disappointed compared to when they were at vic market venue i wont be returning any time soon

3.5. was excited to try fancy hank's but unfortunately, i thought thebrisket(the main attraction) was a bit dry and not as soft/tender as i've had at other places in melbourne. the sides were all nice, especially the fries, but i came for the meat and it didn't quite hit the mark for me.
